It's always nice to hear from ex-W.L.'ers who have moved away but who still keep up with the news. This week we had a nice letter from lona and Auston Hood who live in Pulaski, Tenn. The Hoods formerly lived in Wonder Lake. She writes that her son, Chester, entered a Junior Academy of Science program for the eighth grade and high school pupils. He entered the Physics- Astronomy and Math group and won a second alternate place. He plans to enter again next year. Iona is keeping very busy with all her church, school and civic activities. She and Chester will be spending a month's vacation in Memphis starting May 31. Let's hear from some more of you folks who have moved away. We'd like to know where you are and what you are doing to keep out of mischief. How about some of you fellas in service giving out with some news. Just send it to me at Box 194, Wonder Lake'and I'll be happy to write it up for the local group to read. Notes: My apologies for missing out 'ast week but I had a date with a flu bug and just couldn't get with the news business. Did you miss me? I think there were so many things going on all last week that a little thing like a news column was of small importance by comparison. Don't forget -- my news must be in by tonight--Thursday-- this week due to the holiday next week. Anything coming in after Thursday night Christ The King Church News The bans of marriage are published for the third time between Judith C. Kolar of this parish and Patrick B. Whalen of Hannibal, Mo. and for the first time between Frank R. Houda of this parish and Judith Ann Ritter of St. Mary's, Woodstock. But most of them simply catch a breath when they can, and try to keep up with the pace. There is something more important! The winner trains ... and plans his race. He may lag behind for a while, but he is confident of hidden resources. When others have burned up their energy and enthusiasm, he forges to the front. As they wilt in the home stretch, he sprints across the finish line. The Church can help you train . . . and plan! A Christian is concerned with his own spiritual stamina rather than the fast pace of life. He is ready with hidden resources when the moment of challenge comes. Sunday Psalms 119:29-40 Monday Isaiah 40:27-31 Tuesday Luke 13:22-30 Wednesday I Corinthians 9:19-27 THE CHURCH FOR ALL... ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizennhip. It is a storehouse of spiritual valum. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily.
