ngv i wvuiy THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, May 29, 1963 Eastwood Manor ORDINANCE ON STRAY DOGS WIU. BE ENFORCED Laverne Saynor 385-5429 There have been quite a few dogs running loose in the subdivision. They not only are antagonizing the children, but they are also destroying shrubbery and dumping garbage cans. There is an ordinance statin? that all dogs must be tied up or fenced in, and when being walked they must be on a leash. So please obey this ordinance and avoid, nee^lebs unpleasantness Mall Box Situation It was brought up at the E.M.P.O.A. meeting on Friday evening that there has been mail lost due-to children tampering with the mail boxes. We have been advised that if this condition continues to exist the delivery of mail in the subdivision can be discontinued. If this happens we will have to obtain our mail from the post office in town. So please instruct your children to stay away from the mail boxes. E. M. P. O. A. At the last E.M.P.O.A. meeting it was brought to our attention that volunteers are needed to help with the painting and tiling the barn and for fixing the doors and the windows. Please contact Gil Moore for he will appreciate any help. Ray Salo is also calling toi volunteers to help put up screening for the back stop at the ball field. There will be a Rummage sale on Saturday, June 8. Pat Borcovan is chairman of this affair. Any and all contributions will be greatly appreciated. The barn will be open on Saturday, June 1, to accept all contributions and someone will be there to accept them. Around The Manor Ken and Thelma Massheimer had as Sunday guests Ken's Aunt and Uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Maxwell of Schaumburg. John Timmon, Jean Mersch's father, was out to visit Jean, Matt and the children for the weekend. On Sunday, Bob and Kay Mitchell went into Chicago. While Kay attended a bridal shower Bob took the children to the park and also to the Garfield Park conservator. The Thompsons of Duck • Lake Woods were visitors at the Pennick home on Wednesday for cake and coffee and to help Jim celebrate his birthday. Pat and Bob Kellogg and Lenny and Dolores Lawrence spent the weekend at the new State Park in Zion. They spent a very relaxing weekend just walking along the beach and following the nature trails. They went bowling Friday and Saturday night. Four different proms took place at the hotel over the weekend. The kids got a little noisey at times but they enjoyed watching thorny Congratulations to Lew Kcflogg who took third place in a Gymkhanna held by the Lake Regions Sports Car club. Margaret and Frances Pickett and daughters spent Sunday at the home of Margaret's Aunt and Uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Burke, for a family dinner and get-together. Congratulations also to pretty Lynn Krebs who was first place winner in the American Legion Essay Contest, "Great Americans of Illinois." Lynn chose Carl Sandburg as her subject. My husband and I made a trip to Michigan City, Ind., over the weekend to attend the 40-8 Third Annual Five-State promenade. Besides attending meetings we had a very nice time meeting old acquaintances and making new friends. This promenade served a dual purpose for us as we mixed pleasure with business. We visited with old friends who live in Michigan City. We were given a personal guided tour of the city and its splendors. There just weren't enough hours in the weekend to talk over old times. While we were gone, my mother, Mrs. Rick of Elmhurst, came out to stay with the children. On Saturday evening our two oldest ones, Hugh and Lynn, attended the Junior- Senior Prom, and on Sunday three couples made a day of it at the Brookfield zoo. Guess who came home tired? As such, you bear great responsibility, for defined, "a pioneer is one who goes before, preparing the way for others to follow." The Church reaches out to you in greatest urgency. It needs you to help, by example and precept, combat the greed and intolerance that today threaten our world. The Church needs you as another pioneer in Christian example and thinking. You can help prepare the way for others by promoting generosity, kindliness, and love toward all other humsn beings. Through the Church you can, . < as a pioneer, strive most effectively toward generous, tolerant tomorrows for your fellowmen. . K -v* ' ii. ^ THE CHURCH-FOR ALL' ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) Fair his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself which needs his moral and material support. Flan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily.
