\ Thursday, June 6, 1963 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Ringwood LOCAL STUDENTS GRADUATE FROM EIGHTH GRADE Ur Breanaii - WJL. 2046 Last Monday evening the Ringwood grade school pupils under the... direction of their music teacher, Mrs. Ritt, put on a very good program giving honor's to the graduates from Ringwood. There are ten students from Ringwood who will graduate from the McHenry junior high school on Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. They are Tom Walkington, Allen Harrison, Allen Spenser, Lily Boyd, Peter Jones, Roger Barker, Betsy Fossum, Susan Low, Lillian Miller and Sharon Moyer. Mr. Smejkal gave the introduction, then Sharon Moyer read the class will. Each of the three class rooms had a musical treat from the audience which was exceptionally good. After the program, the seventh grade mothers, Mrs. Fossum, Mrs. Gelvin, Mrs. Harvey and Mrs. Oonk served the graduation cake, punch and coffee. Our sincere congratulations and best wishes are extended to the graduates. Honor Students Four of the fifteen Ringwood students named to the scholastic honor roll for the fourth grading period received all A's Mr. Smejkal reported. The straight A students were Robert Brennan, Priscilla Fossum, Mary Oonk and Trudy Oonk. The eleven students who qualified for the scholastic honor roll were Resae Ackerman, Dolores Betts, Patty Brennan, Andrew Fossum, Candy Fossum, Robin Fossum, Michele Rasmussen, Kristina Wickman and Guy Winters. The following six students received honorable mention: David Betts, Debra Betts, Debbie Harvey, Kathrin Holcomb, Ray Low and Nancy White. I think we can be quite proud of our students from Ringwood with an honor roll like this. Nice work youngsters. Sr. Hi M.Y.F. Linda Low reports: In case you've noticed a few senior Hi. M.Y.F. members acting like misers with their money, it's because they're saving for our approaching canoe outing. On July 16, approximetly sixteen youths and their chaperoncs will leave Ely, Minn., for their camping trip via water. We will take about six small canoes and all the necessary camping equipment, plus Bibles, worship books, hymnals and the eagerness to learn and understand God better by really living in His wonderful world. We will be gone from home for about ten days. Our destination -- Canada. It will truly be an inspiring experience for all who participate. June 9 at 7 p.m. A movie "Wilderness Day" will be shown for the benefit of all Canada canoers. Refreshments will be served. Bring your questions and your parents. June 29 Wedding Planned Miss Sherril-Elaine, daughter ot Rev. and Mrs. David W. Holden from Sayre and Kenneth Ross Pope, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Kenneth Pope of Ringwood have planned their wedding for June 29. Both have graduated from the Grand Rapids school of the Bible and music school in Grand Rapids, Mich. Ken is the pastor ot S p e n c e r M i l l s C o m m u n i t y church in Gowen, Mich., at present. He has also been serving as an orderly in the Grand Rapids county hospital. Both plan to attend Candate Schocl in Kansas City, Mo., this September, following Ken's ordination in August at the Wonder L&ke Bible church. More detaile are plswhere in the paper. Family Reunion Sunday, June 2, the Walt Low house was jam packed with relatives and family friends. They were from WaUkegan, LaGrange, Hindsdale, Downers Grove, Crystal Lake, McHenry and Greenwood. It was a family reunion of Doric's folks (the Thomases). All forty-four of them didn't just happen to drop in. They came to help celebrate Pat's graduation from the McHenry high school. Pat received many nice gifts for the present and for her new hope chest. She plana to go to I.B.M. school this fall in Waukegan. (Pat won the I.B.M. scholarship). Later in the afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Thomas of McHenry were presented many lovely gifts for a pink and blue event-to-be the later part of June. It was a very enjoyable and busy day for all. Here 'N' There Mrs. Arline Pearson attended a dinner at Wilmot, Wis., last week honoring Mrs. Velma Douglas of McHenry who is retiring from teaching this year. On Thursday of last week, Mr. and Mrs. Lou Hawley returned home after spending several days visiting in the Earl Whiting home in Nanahagon, Wis. On their way home, the Hawleys visited their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Woodard, in Madison, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brennan and Mrs. Nellie Hepburn attended the graduation ceremonies of their nephew and grandson respectively, Donald Blackman, at Antioch. Jimmy Blackman of Richmond also attended. Miss Pat Hogan was in Chicago on Thursday in connection with dairy promotion work. The Hawthorn-Melody Farms have two cows in a. downtown Chicago store window, with the two different types of music played to them, in hopes of finding out which cow producvf, the most milk. Pat was to assist with the milking of these music soothed cows. Any guesses as to which one will produce more? The cow with the forty most popular songs or with soft-soothing music!!! On Friday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Howe of Crystal Lake called on the L. E. Hawleys. Hfr. and Mrs. Robert Brennan and family attended a graduation party held in the Richard Schmitt home in honor of Miss Diane Schmitt, a graduate from St: Mary's school in McHenry. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Appelt and family of Wadsworth and Diane's grandparents, Mr and Mrs. Joe Schmitt of McHenry. On Tuesday, Mr. ^nd Mrs. Popenhagen of Woodstock called in the home of Mrs. Nellie Hepburn. Later, Mrs. B. Stephen of McHenry cabled on B|rs. Hepburn: * Mr. and M*S. James Wegener and Freddy, and Fred Wiedrich attended a party in honor of Georgia Mary Saunders' graduation from St. Mary's parochial school in Sycamore on Sunday. Georgia Mary is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phelps Saunders. John Blackman of ^Antioch called on his mother, Mrs. Nellie Hepburn, last 'week. Mr. and Mrs: L. E. Hawley were visitors in the William Rein wall home in McHenry on Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Fink of Waukegan were Thursday afternoon' callers in the Mrs. Nellie Hepburn home. Also, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schuetze of Wauwatosa, Wis., were visitors. Cub $taoats The boys enjoyed their trip to O'Hara Field on May 25, They left at 10 in the morning and were back at 2 in the afternoon. Each and every little morsel will be greatly appreciated. Jeanne Janquart had a party at her home after her graduation last Friday evening. Besides her mom, dad, sisters and brothers there were Mr. and Mrs. Sedlin from Chicago, Grandma and Grandpa Schwartz from Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Sergant, Mrs. Teena O'Malley and her former baby sitting clients Haze and Dick Morley. Congratulations to a real swell young lady. Happy birthday on June 13 to Mike Kelly, to Mary Madock on June 10 and happy anniversary to Gene and Joyce Heir on June 14. Haze and Dick Morley and sons spent Memorial Day picknicking at Wonder Lake. Sincere sympathy to John Emmerich and family who suffered the loss of John's sister, Rita, on June 21. She passed away in Chicago at the early age of 37 and is survived by her husband and two sons. Last Sunday, June 26, Bill Hensley was surprised to find the battery, a * chrome strip and his spare tire stolen from his car which was parked by the side of his home. The thieves took the tire from the locked trunk. So, all residents in the Meadow Hill area have been keeping a close eye on old "Betsy" out in the driveway. HEALTH ALERT State health officers notified last week of 10 canes of confirmed and suspect smallpox officially reported from Sweden, Dr. Franklin D. Yodcr, state health director said. The initial case of smallpox arrived in Sweden the last of March and two deaths have occurred. Seven of the 10 cases were Initially diagnosed as chickenpox. The health officers have been asked to alert all Illinois physicians as to the possibility of international travelers who may have been exposed to smallpox. Any suspected case of smallpox must be reported to the Illinois Department of Public Health immediately, Dr. Yoder said.
