Due to nual summer fesitival held on the church grounds Aug. 2 thru the 4 4a which many of m»r residents donate the committee felt it would be wiser to wait until the middle of August for our own fund raising affair. Again - that's Saturday, Aug. 17, beginning at 10 a.m. and lagging until ?. Mr. Fiala may be known to some of us as he is the bass player for the orchestra which has honored us with their music at many of our dances. Wednesday overnight guests Holiday mils WOMAN'S CLUB BUYS LADDERS FOR LAKE BEACH RAFT me* Youag Talk about action! The Woman's ch»b decided at their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday evening that they would use a portion of the bake sale profit to purchase a ladder for the lake beach raft. The bake sale was held the following Friday evening and Saturday morning. On Sunday afternoon there were two ladders on the raft. That's what I call getting a job done--fast! Unfortunately it is not usually possible and sometimes not even advisable to act as fast on things that we want done, but it was fun to see what can be done when there are no obstacles in the way. The reason for two ladders? --which makes it twice as nice as one? One of our local merchants in McHenry, when Vi Abbink who was on the committee, went in to check on the purchase price and told him what it was for, gave us two for. the priee of one. To the committee, the merchant, Bill Abbink, who installed the ladders, and to the Woman's Club, the sincere appreciation of all who use the beach and at the Moller home were her brother, Paul Stednitz, and wife, Lyons, and a niece, Janie Bishop, also of Lyons. Also arriving on Wednesday to stay a few days was her sister, Mrs. Martha Bockhop, and Mrs. B o c k h o p's granddaughter, Jackie Corbett, Milwaukee. Stopping in to visit at the Jim Depprneier home on Wednesday were Birdie's cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hillman, Gaylord, Minnesota. The George Meckos visited vritit their daughter-in-law's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Klimek, Chicago, on Sunday before Mrs. Klimek left for a two month trip to Poland to visit with relatives including her father who is still living there. Birthday Greetings Many happy returns of the day to the following birthday celebrants as we end up July, Charles Lima and George Mecko, both on July 27, and Millie Mondle, Peter Schilling, who will be six years old and little Jackie Weiss who will be two all on July 30. raft, and even from many of us who can't get out to the raft to admire them. Island Lake Carnival Coming The HHPOA held its July meeting at the home of Bill and Mary Mahon on Monday, July 15. Gerry Smith reported that the Island Lake Carnival will be held from August 7 thru 11 at the shopping center in Island Lake. Holiday Hills will occupy two booths. Six workers will be needed for each evening of carnival. This has always been a profitable venture for the association and we have always had willing workers. One of the committee will be calling on you in the near future, but why not mark the date on the calendar now, so that when the calls you can tell him when you will be available to work. Rich Wyczesany announced that there are still a few culverts to be put in, and any of you men who can help will surely be welcome to join the crew that has worked so hard to put those that are already in. The tractor has had some work done on it and still needs a tune-up which will be taken care of in the near future. G.L.A.C. And Wives See White Sox ' The men of the Griswold Lake Athletic Club and their wives went down to see the White Sox play Detroit on Friday, July 12. It was a very exciting game with the White Sox scoreboard going off three times and the game going into 12 innings. The only sad part was the final score -- Detroit 7-White Sox 6. However, the trip down there and back again by bus made the whole evening worthwhile for the entire group. Family Reunion Wayne and Aljce Mal/ahn- attended a family reunion to celebrate Wayne's Grandfather's eightieth birthday. The family gathered in Arlington Heights with relatives coming from Ohio, Georgia, Colorado, Illinois and even as far away as Germany, After attending a church service at which Wayne's cousin officiated as minister and preached the sermon they all enjoyed a breakfast of eggs, pancakes and ham prepared by Wayne and one of his cousins at the home of his Aunt.
