Dr. • Ralph Belnap, member of the Northern Illinois university consultant team for the committee, said that copies of the report would be mailed to committee members in the near future. The N1U consultant is tentatively scheduled to meet Aug. 15 with a screening committee composed of Gene Losee, chairman of the McHenry County Community College committee, and the chairmen of the five sub-committees. The group will make revisions and a final draft will be compiled. The printed report is expected to be presented Sept. 9 at a meeting in Woodstock of the entire committee. The completed report will be titled "McHenry County Community College Committee / Survey" and will include chapters on population, finance, curriculum and building and sites. A sixth chapter will summarize conclusions and findings of the committee. Also included will be pictures of the sub-committees and school district representatives and an outline of the procedure to be followed in creating a community college district. NEW COMMUNITY CENTER GIVEN OFFICIAL NAME Barnard Mill Community Center, Inc. was unanimously chosen as the new name for ther former Riitgwood-«Wonder Lake Community Center this past week. The new name for the non-profit organization was chosen for its historical significance as well as the fact that the center will serve and accept members from McHenry, McCullom Lake, Greenwood and others. Robert Bird presided as acting chairman at the meeting of the center members, which was held in the newly purchased picturesque old Ringwood school. The school was bought at auction on July 20 by the Community Center. Mrs. Otto Menolasino ^ras chosen as temporary recording secretary, and Kenneth Rhoades was appointed temporary house chairman. A board of directors was unanimously ^proved by the attending members. They include Arthur Lau, Paul Eberle, Mrs. Andrew Thompson, Mrs. William Bacon and Gerritt Beverwyk. Charter memberships are being sold for $10 lifetime membership per family. Community Center activities will be specifically determined by the wishes of the members through the activities committee. Possible activities include a library, ice skating rink,art classes, little theatre, ping pong, basketball, Great Books discussion group, foreign language A large group of enthusiastic Republicans attended the fifth annual Republican Golf and Fun Day held at the Cary Country club. Under sunny skies, golfers enjoyed ideal weather, topped by a western style steak fry in the evening at the Fox River Picnie Grove Also in attendance were prominent Republican Office holders and leaders from the three surrounding counties. Chairman Levesque commented that this was Republican weather clear and bright, and the outlook for the next six years is Republican weather. DRIVER HITS AUTO. TRAVELS UP CHAPEL STEPS Bernice E. Freund of Fox street, McHenry, escaped injury when her car struck another auto which was backing from the curb on west Judd street, Woodstock, last Friday, then went out of control and travelled up the stairs of the Merwin-Cooney funeral -home. The driver was making a turn from Throop street when 11 he accident occurred in which ! she struck the car of Edwin Borter of Round Lake Beach. She was blamed by city police for driving too fast for conditions and not having her car under control. Raymond Mischke of Wonder Lake was blamed by sheriff's deputies for an accident which took place at the intersection of Charles road and Rt. 47 last Saturday noon. Mischke told authorities he was visiting with his wife and failed to notice the stop sign on entering the highway. Mrs. Margaret Mischke sustained bruises and abrasions when their cars collided with another car driven by Lillian Bosma of Greenwood. Newt About Our Servicemen Walter C. Foerster, electrician's mate third class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer C. Foerster of McHenry, has been serving aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Independence, on a training refresher cruise in the Caribbean which ended July 26 after five weeks at sea. The Independence recently completed a six-month major overhaul in the Norfolk Naval shipyard, Portsmouth, Va. On the first day of the Independences present cruise sevenair squadrons arrived aboard to participate In the training operations. While in the Caribbean the carrier visited the Naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, site of the fleet training group which aids Atlantic fleet units in refresher training operations. ATSUGI, JAPAN--Walter S. Shumway, Jr., chief aviation machinist's mate USN, son of Mrs. Marie M. Brichta of 4612 West Wonder Lake drive, Wonder Lake, reported recently for duty with the staff of Commander Fleet Air Japan at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Atsugi, Japan. The command's primary mission is to provide support facilities for aid components operating with the U.S. Seventh Fleet in the far East. Shumway, who entered the service in September 1947, is a graduate of Waller high school, Chicago. Army Capt. Arthur G. Barbier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Barbier, 417 N. Front street, McHenry, completed a two-week officer orientation course at Brooke Army Medical center, Fort Sam Houston, Tex., July 22. Captain Barbier, a medical doctor, received training in military procedures, field medical service and general military medical activities. Before enterng the Army, the captain was an intern at St. Francis hospital, Evanston. He was graduated from McHenry Community high school in 1954 and received his degree in medicine from Creighton University school of medicine, Omaha, Neb., in 1962. FOUR-YEAR-OLD DIBS IN UNUSUAL' : FAIR ACCIDENT A freak accident marred the closing night of the McHenry County Junior Fair last Sunday when it took the life of a 4- year-old Gilbert. 111., boy, Patrick A. Mayotte, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Mayotte. The accident occurred near one of the rides which the family was watching in action. One of the riders dropped money from his pocket while in motion, and Mrs. Mayotte picked it up and kept it until the ride was completed. Just then, young Patrick looked down and saw another coin under a car, and put his hand on the bumper as he bent over to pick it up. As he did so, 110 volts of electricty passed through hi*- body. He was rushed to Memorial hospital but it was impossible to revive the child. An electrician called to the scene found that a short in the wiring^lh^ide the trailer had travelled ih reverse through the car to which it was attached. The auto belonged to Jes>s Rose of Tampa, Fla., who was travelling with the carnival group. This is the first fatality in the nine-year history of the fair. Top Awards Go To Young McHenry Nurse When Miss Carol Stritar graduated from St. Francis hospital school of nursing in Evanston last Sunday, she received two top honor awards in her class. Miss Stritar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Stritar of 402 Glenwood drive, McHenry, won the first Sister Mary M. Gertrudis award for scholastic achievement and was also high est rating in nursing achievement. HERE AND THERE IN BUSINESS INCREASED EARNINGS Northern Illinois Gas company, in its quarterly statement to stockholders Aug. 1, reported a 9 per cent increase in consolidated revenues and earnings for the twelve months ended June 30, 1963, as compared with the some period a year ago. Revenues totaled almost $178 million and earnings were $2.99 a share for the most recent period. Revenues and earnings were $163 million and $2.75, respectively, for the 12 months ended June 30, 1962. SET SALES RECORD Sales were at a record heigh- $473,368,337 for the twentyfour weeks ended June 15, 1963- a 12 per cent increase over the same period last year.
