Thursday, August 15, 1963 THE McHENHY PLAINDEALER -- Per6onafd --- Mrs. Carl Weber, Miss Frances Michels and Miss Genevieve Knox visited in the Gilbert Bottler home in Pewaukee, Wis., and also spent some time at Holy Hill, Wis., on Thursday. Mrs. Charles Allan of Joliet is a guest in the George B. Kane home. Mrs. Leo Dwyer and son. Robert, of Rockford were visitors in the home of Mrs. Walter Walsh Wednesday of last week. Mrs. Margaret Rasmussen daughter, Mrs. Jean Hadjok, and son, Kenton, of Chicago and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tenter of Rogers Park spent a recent day in the home of Miss Genevieve Knox. Mrs. Robert Goff and Mrs. Douglas Coleman returned to their home in Liverpool, England, Saturday after a few weeks' visit in the home of their sister, Mrs. Lloyd Whiting, in Elgin. While here they were guests in the home of another of their countrymen, Mrs. Bob Adams, in McHenry, and in company with Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Carl Weber and Miss Genevieve Knox, enjoyed an outing in Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Beckenbaugh and family of Bettendorf, Iowa, were weekend guests in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Althoff. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Dobyns and daughter, Mary Grace, have returned from an enjoyable week's vacation in which their first stop was at Dearborn, Mich., where they visited an automobile plant, and then drove on to Niagara Falls and through Canada. Sue O'Brien and brothers, John and Dennis, spent a few days last week with their grandmother, Mrs. Ella Buss, at Bohner's Lake, Wis. Miss Joan Adams of Chicago was a weekend guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfons Adams. Mrs. Eleanor Wiater and sons, Joseph and James, of Long Beach, Calif., are spending the month with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Althoff, and other relatives here. Her husband, Dr. Wiater, and daughter, Judy, joined them this week for the remainder of their vacation. Mrs. Wiater was guest of honor at a bridge luncheon given for sixteen ' guests by her sister, Mrs. Jack Phelan, on Thursday. Out of town folks in attendance were Mrs. Marilyn Bishoff, of Park Ridge and Mrs. Bonnie Ladd of Crystal Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Stattner of Pana, 111., spent the past week with their daughter, Mrs. John Leighty. Mr. and Mrs. Leighty and daughters accompanied them home for an overnight visit. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith, Marty, Andy and Margaret, have returned to their home in Fort Worth, Texas, after a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Art Smith, and other local relatives. Mrs. Walter Brooks and granddaughter, Terry Brooks, spent a few days last week at the Dells in Wisconsin. They were accompanied by her sister, Mrs. Gertrude Pidgeon, daughter, Mrs. Shirley Knoblock, and children of Chicago. Mesdames Elizabeth Thompson, Frances Widhelm, Ann Rodenkirch, Barbara Gilpin, Anna Miller, Rose Staines, Irene Guffey, Helen Heuser, Bobby May and Misses Laura Weber and Bertilla Freund represented the C.D. of A. at Downey hospital Wednesday evening of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Winkelman were dinner guests in the Irving Laures new home in Northbrook Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Sherman and son of Denver, Colo., visited his mother, Mrs. Laura Sherman, and other relatives here the past week. Mrs. Carl Bergstrom of Mc- Cullom Lake has as a guest in her home this week Mrs. Lila Carroll of Tillsonberg, Canada. Mrs. Fred Chase of Midland, Mich., was a visitor in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Althoff, a "few days this week. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Winkelman observed their wedding anniversary by seeing a musical play at a Chicago theatre Thursday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Cooney and family of Fort Worth, Texas, have ' been spending several days in the Lee Cooney home. Bobby Welter Is spending some time with bis friend, Mike Antonson, \ in Martinsville, N. J. A 7 Mr. and Mrs. William Mc- Posch and children of Anchorage, Alaska, were guests c;f Dennis Conway Wednesday. Other recent visitors in the Robert Conway home were Mr, and Mrs. John Carlson and children of Broadview. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Thill, Janice and David, of Aurora, were Sunday guests of her mother, Mrs. Anna Diedrich. Mrs. Lee Cooney has returned from Westminster, Mass., where she was called by the serious illness of her father, who later passed away. She was accompanied home by her husband, who went East to attend the funeral. Howard Cairns and Edward Kennebeck have returned from a several days' motor trip in which they visited Mt. Rushmore, the Black Hills, Yellowstone Park, Crater Lake, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, and other points of interest in the Southwest. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Adams and son have returned from a trip to the Black Hills and other interesting points. Mr. and Mrs. Alfons Adams and daughter, Joan, attended the Blackhawk Field Archers Broadhead shoot held at Rockford Sunday. Mrs. Adams brought home a trophy. Mr. and Mrs. G^rgi Larkin spent a few days recently in the Earl Dowell home in Lafayette, Ind. Mrs. Annabel Aicher, Mrs. Kathryn Steilen, Miss Clara Miller and Leo Heimer visited Mrs. Steve Heimer, an old time McHenry resident but late of Chicago, at St. Joseph's home in Kenosha, Wis., Thursday. Miss Myrtle Phaye Procter and Miss Maurie Taylor have returned from a visit in the home of the latter's brother, Kenneth Taylor, in Peoria, where they attended the wedding of his daughter, Sandra, to Jaimie Padilla of Ecuador, S.A., which took place on Aug. 4. Mr. and Mrs. John Galvin have returned to their home in Phoenix, Ariz., after a visit with relatives in Harvard, Woodstock and McHenry. Mrs. Galvin is the' former Elnora Bending, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Bending, old time residents of this vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Glosson have returned from a week's vacation at the summer home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Staines of Kenosha, Wis., at Park Falls, Wis. and family of ^^cago called on McHenry relatives Sundaj Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rolfs, Mrs. Emma Rolfs, Mr. and Mrs. A1 A mo and Mr. and Mrs. George Rauen of Kenosha, Wis., were among the out-oftown folks here to attend the silver wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Justen Sunday. Sister Mary Charles of St. Joseph's convent, Milwaukee, Wis., spent the past week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Freund, who drove to Rockford with her Sunday. She will spend several days there before beginning her teaching duties in St. Therese school in Aurora. While here, she was honored at a family get-together, with members of the Jay Seymour family of Wheeling and the Norman Freund family erf Wauconda present. Lt. and Mrs. L. J. Mahoney and sons, Mark and Kevin, of Wurtsmith Air Force base, Mich., visited her grandmother, Mrs. Nellie Bacon, Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Collins of Salt Lake City were McHenry visitors the past week. Harold and Eleanor Wildhagen spent the past week in Northern Wisconsin and Canada. Mr. and Mrs. George E. Johnson and Susan of Skokie spent Sunday with relatives here. Their son, Stephen, who spent the past week with his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. George H. Johnson returned home with his parents. Mrs. Michael Puetz and daughter of Skokie have been visiting this week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Nett. Under the tax of onehalf per cent on retail sales, McHenry received $6,859.91,' behind Woodstock with $8,542.67 and Crystal Lake with $10,435.59. Other city collections in the county for the same period included Algonquin, $2,096.58; Cary, $1,485.94; Fox River Grove, $806.63; H a r v a rd, $3,959.85; Hebron, $359.54; Huntley, $1,396.99; Marengo, $2,806.53; and Richmond, $879.78. Other local payments included Island Lake, $368.92; Lakemoor, $426.45; Spring Grove, $398.65; and Sunnyside $75.12. Record Totals Sales tax incurred in March, paid in April, according to kinds of business gave McHenry a total of $48,838.67; Woodstock, $61,705.26; and Crystal Lake, $74,047.81. Other total collections in this area included Wonder Lake, $2,035.44; Sunnyside, $536.69; Spring Grove, $2,849.30; Ringwood, $334.45; Lakemoor, $3,061.26; Johnsburg, $733.86; and Island Lake, $498.75. Amounts collected for use tax, municipalities and counties are not included ii\ the above figures. The total tax receipts for the state reached $45,657,313.91 McHenry county's share under the retailers' occupation tax and county service occupation tax amounted t o $9,688.50. Mrs. Baldocchi and the children were in bed about 10:15 o'clock when she smelled smoke and found a fire had started in the bathroom and was gaining headway. Members of Company 2 responded to the call for assistance and were able to coofine the blaze to the one room, which was damaged. Mr. Baldocchi was working at the time of the fire. Tho family is living temporarily with her parents, the George Rads, at River Terrace, Johnsburg. The old Klapperich barn in Pistakee Terrace subdivision burned to the ground last Thursday afternoon about 4 o'clock. Origin of the flames was not determined. Firemen of Company 2 had numerous calls from residents of the area who noticed the fire in the building, but only the farmework remained upon their arrival. Company 1 joined them in getting the fire under control, and stayed at the scene for about three hours to prevent sparks from starting a grass fire. The bam had not been used for several years.
