#tgt Slxioan THE McHEHRT PLAINDEALER Thursday, Attgusifi®, 1969 #!slak«e Highlands FAREWELL TO tWO FAMILIES fJEAVING AREA Kay SJellach H¥«tt 1-MM Two more families are leaving the Highlands, Frank and Judy Krumwiede have sold their home at 5604 N. Meadow Hill Lane and have moved to Park Ridge. They had lived in the Highlands for over seven years and I shall miss them very much. They were the first ones to welcome Wally and mo to the Highlands and their many acts of rieighborliness were always appreciated. Three of the four children were born here nnd the last one was named for me. Wally and I feel as if a part of our family had moved away. George and Marilyn Van- Zevern are busy packing for their big move. They' 'have purchased a home in VVilmotie, and they hope to be out very 800h. They have lived here over ei^ht years and George has beerha very active citizen, having served as president of the association, helped establish the Mount Hope Methodist church, is a board member of the church and active in scouling. Marilyn, too, has been active in civic affairs. They have three kiddies. We wi..h both families much luck in their new homes and we know they will make friends whereever they go. It is sad to sec so many families leaving the Highlands. Surprise Picnic On Aug. 16, Marilyn (George) VanZevern and Glenda Wieck were co-hostesses for a surprise picnic luncheon for the Sunday School teachers of Mount Hope church. After the last session of the Vacation Bible school classes, the teachers were invited to stop at VanZeverns'home and all were greatly surprised. Marilyn and Glenda had all the delicious food prepared for the mothers and their families. Those who enjoyed the afternoon were Shirley Dyson, Shirley Wiley, Saki Kawahara, Sally Jo Von- Bruenchenheim, Vi K r i s p i n, Marie Perschke, Dee Gregg, Delores Oakley, Phyliss Meckley, and all their kiddies. The picnic was in honor of them and in appreciation for all their hours of working for the church. A grand time was had by all and the gals will all miss Marilyn. She, too, served as a Sunday school teacher. day. After lunch we spent the afternoon chatting. We all shall pray they both stay in good health to celebrate their golden anniversary. News Of Your Friends And Neighbors James and Mary O'Neill had a very busy weekend; Companywise, Friday evening, Aug. 16, Mary e n t e r t a i n e d s e v e r a l women she works with and some neighbors in the Highlands. The women on hand for a very pleasant -^evening were Orn Setliff of Zion, Irma Scott of Chapel Hill, Mildred P'\'ik, Lake Villa, Alice bnyle and Betty Boones of Ingleside, Retha Mi)pre of Round Lake Park and Florence Fremiti of Spring Grove- The three from the Highlands' were MeGee Sluga, Klisabeth llanrseh and Kay Sielist'h. Her roommate is a Mrs. Lippert, and they both have moved to this area from Chicago. Mary and Mrs. Lip'-ert had gone to the same lrigh school together antl they are keeping busy talking over old times, which makes "South Will Rise Agate" The old saying, "Save your Confederate money, boys, the South will rise again" has come true in the Highlands. The citizens were surprised when they awoke Saturday morning, Aug. 17, to find a Confederate flag flying on a flag pole on top of the water tower. The police have ordered the flag removed. It is too bad the ones who are guilty are wasting their efforts in pranks. If they channeled their efforts in a worthwhile cause, they could go far in life. On Aug. 19, while the police were here, a teen-age boy volunteered to climb the water tower and remove the flag. It was found to be a very expensive silk Confederate flag. Young Phillip Ferris deserves a big hand for his efforts in seal ing the high tower. Orlowskis Quietly Celebrate Many beautiful cards came in to the home of Leo and L '1 Orlowski on their forty-nint wedding anniversary. Many r latives and friends remembered them with best wishes. Since we are very close, I had the pleasure of having them over for an anniversary luncheon, and served them all the food they like the best for their big Rose Farwell's sister and hubby, Mr. and Mrs. Forrer, of Madison, Wis., and their family, Rose's sister and hubby and family from LaGrange Highlands were Sunday guests of Rose and Dick. Partial List Of Candidates Since all the candidates had not been secured as yet for the upcoming election Aug. 31, I shall print the ones I have. This election is for officers of the association and only members in good standing will be allowed to vote. The following citizens are running for offices: Betty Warfzak, Blake, Brown, Bolins, Rapp. Unit one, M. Kolb; Unit four, John Heine-; mann and Catherine Sielisch. The nominating committee has been working very hard to secure a list of willing candidates to run for offices and they are having a time. They deserve a big vote of thanks for their efforts. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy aor civilization can survive. There •re four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They •re: (1) For his own sake. (2) For hia children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily.
