M45 Since I am writing this column on Friday this week, I can only tell you that Ringwood can finish no lower than second place in the Championship playoffs. They' defeated the Genoa City Merchants Team on Wednesday by a score of 8 to 3, putting them into the finals. Last Thursday night they played the first game of the playoffs and won by beating Hebron by a score of 5 to 0. The boys played Aug. 30 for the championship, with a possibility of a doubleheader if they lose the first game. This is a two out of three for the title of CHAMPIONSHIP WINNERS. It would be quite a feat if the boys could go on and win, since it would mean that the first place team won the playoffs. You can bet that Ringwood will be represented well for the games. School Days!! School is in session as of Tuesday Sept 3 with a half day for getting bills paid and knowing your teacher. Wednesday was the first day of school for our Ringwood youngsters. The new school hours are as follows: 8:55 a.m. to 3 p.m. Make sure your children get to school on time. It makes us stop and wonder just where the summer did go doesn't it? It seems just like a few weeks ago that they were out for the summer months and now comes September. Keep in mind that these youngsters will be riding bikes to and from school from now on, and when driving by, watch out for their sudden movements. She was a guest in the home of Mrs. Eleanor Carlson on Wednesday and Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. James Wegener and son, Freddy, were callers in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Phelphs Saunders on Tuesday afternoon. I'm sorry for such a short column for Ringwood this week, but with the early deadline there just wasn't much news. Pope will be' spending a couple of days visiting his parents, the Kenneth Popes. Last Thursday, the Popes left to visit relatives in the southern part of the state and were expected to be in Ringwood on Monday. After visiting with relatives and friends here they will be on their way to Smithville, Mo., where they will be attending school until the week before Christmas. Their address is as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth R. Pope c/o Gospel Missionary Union; Smithville, Mo., in case anyone would like to write the young couple. Birthday Greetings Betsy Fossum and Lily Boyd will be celebrating their birthdays on Sept. 5. On Sept 9, Pricilla Fossum will have her natal day. Here 'N' There Mr. and Mrs. Ray Page of McHenry were callers in the ROTARY NEWS Out-of-town Rotarians visiting our club meeting last week were Hugh Deneen, past president Harvard; past presidents of the Richmond club, Dr. J. F. Harris and Fred Gunderson; Tom Burgess and Jim Longway of the newly formed Rotary club of Crystal Lake, Oscar Iber, a member of the No. 1 Chicago club, whom we consider as our adopted member, was present also. When Oscar misses one of our meetings it is news as he attends consistently and the quietness of the meeting is always noticeable. Service Above Self -- one of the principles of Rotary -- is being exemplified by one of our members, Larry Fuhrer, and his Rotary Ann Neva. They have accepted the chairmanship for the cystic fibrosis fund drive for McHenry county and have been very busy organizing their committees. Wonder Lake Hoffmans See Son Graduate Mary Loo Harteg - Harold and Jeanette Hoffman of 5009 E. Lake Shore Drive flew to Ames, Iowa, last week to attend the graduation of their son, Richard, from Iowa State College. Both Richard and his wife attend Iowa State and will both return to the college in the fall to begin studying for their Masters Degrees. Richard will work towards his Masters in Industrial Engineering and his wife will work towards her degree in Home Economics. They will drive Jeanette and Harold back to Wonder Lake and will spend a short 'vacation here before returning to Ames. Christ The King Altar And Rosary News The Altar and Rosary sodality will have its regular monthly meeting in the school hall Thursday night. Rosary in the church at 8:15. Carlson Family Moving To Florida The John Carlson family, residents for many years, ol 4114 East Lake Shore Drive, left last Saturday to make their new home in St. Petersburg, Fla. Their home here at the lake was sold recently and John is already in St. Petersburg. Bart and her daughters, Pam, Carl ana, Denise, and Dena, and Mrs. Carlson, Sr., are driving to Texas to visit friends and relatives and will proceed from there to Flordia. Louise Marke and Mary Ahrens were hostesses at a luncheon for Mrs. Carlson on Thursday. Pam Carlson was guest of honor at three "going away" parties in the past week. One given by friends where she was employed, one at the Parratore home in Greenwood, and one at the home of'Joyce Motulewicz in Wonder Lake. Legion Post News Attention all Boy Scouts. With the beginning of school troop meetings will begin. The Wonder Lake Boy Scout troop will meet on Monday nights at the American Legion Post home. Further information can be had by contacting the Scoutmaster. The membership drive is in high gear now. The post would appreciate everyone getting their dues in early. This troop has been together a year and would like to go on. Their former leader has had to quit due to ill health. Later Date For Meeting Because of Labor Day, the Johnsburg Community Club will meet on Sept. 9 in place of the regular first Monday of the month. Keep your eye on the new addition--its nearing completion. Rescue Squad Calls Recently the rescue squad answered two calls within one day. One took them to a home in Niesen's subdivision where a visiting relative suffered a fatal attack. In the same neighborhood later that evening, a resident had to be taken to the McHenry hospital. Last week a Chicago visitor suffered a possible heart attack and was taken in the squad ambulance to the hospital. Thursday evening a youth was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. Because of the early deadline this week we are not as yet aware of the success of the dance sponsored by the rescue squad. Can there be any doubt as to why we should back them 100 per cent? Just keep in mind the number of calls they answer, day or night, week in and week out. Hospital Notes Paul Boyk is coming along real well since his recent attack over a week ago. If everything continues as it has, he should be able to return to his Chicago home soon. Change Of Meeting Date A note to all juvenile girl Forester members the next meeting will be held on Sept. 16 instead of Sept. 9. It will begin as usual at 7 p.m., in the Community Club hall.
