Doenecke will take over the duties M minister of the Mount Hope» Methodist church starting 2®. Rev. Doenecke is now serving as minister at the Visitation Methodist church in Park Ridge. Rev. Stewart Smith has been busy showing Reverend Doenecke the church and making him acquainted in the Highlands. The members of the church and our community. Sunday, Sept. 8, Rev. Smith Held services at the Ringwood Methodist church for Reverend Bruce Brencman at 9:30 a.m. Rev. Smith and his wife, Florence, have found an apartment in Chicago and will be living at 1853 North Humboldt Avenue. They are very sad to be leaving the Highlands and the host of friends they have made here. Rev. Smith will be supplying the pulpit at Riley near Marengo. He will be spending his Sundays there and we are sure the members of the parish will love him as he was loved here. We all wish him Godspeed and much success in his new parish. Sept. 5, 100 people were on hand for the farewell dinner for Rev. Smith and his wife, Florence. Rev. Haggerty of Ingleqide, Rev. Carder of McHenry and Rev. Bruce Breneman of Ringwood were honored guests. After a very delicious dinner every one assembled in the church for a program entitled 'This Is Your Life" and the history of the church. Ed. Thoren the master of cermonies, was just wonderful. All the societies of the church presented the Smiths with lovely gifts and all the members i and friends presented him with gifts. A beautiful wall clock, a framed Salzman Head of Christ, framed picture and a gift certificate were only a few of the many gifts. The choir sang • afveral of Rev. Smith's favorite • hymns. It was a sad occasion far the Smiths but a very gratifying experience and one they shall both treasure as they leave the Highlands. The Women of the W.S.C.S. sponsored the dinner and their hard work made the evening a great success. membership the club enjoyed. evex; Clarence Shastal Injured Friday night, Sept. 6, Clarence Shastal lost control of his car after a blow out. The car went down a deep incline turning over and completely demolishing the car. Clarence, suffering from shock, walked all night in a daze before being found in Big Hollow. The accident happened on' Lincoln itoad near the Drive' in Theatre. He was taken to McHenry hospital Sept. 7, and has been undergoing treatment and X-rays. It is hoped his injuries are not serious and that he will soon be home. members from the Highlands will have to be put on the waiting list. So far Joan Megley is the only Den mother in the; Highlands. The Highlands needs at least three more Den mothers. There are five boys to a Den which is not too big to handle and you always receive heli> from others so if you are interested in seeing your boys in Scouting please call Henry Zenner. All new boys wishing to join the Pack must bring their applications to the October meeting and must know the five items necessary =to become a Bob Cat. Teen (lab Qpejp Fall Meeting The first fall meeting of the •""Teen Club will be held on * Sept. 23 at the community cen ter. A nomination committee will be selected to choose candidates for the Oct. 7. election. All teenagers who entered high school as freshmen this fall are invited to come to the Sept. 23 • meeting. The Mclnernys will be very busy with all the September birthdays to celebrate. New Girl Scout Leader A big orchid to two wonderful gals who have volunteered as leaders for the Girl Scout troop from Pistakee Highlands and Pistakee Hills, Frances Groth will serve as the Girl Scout Leader and Rosemary Thelen as Co-Leader. The first meeting was held at the community center Sept. 12. Meetings will be held every Thursday at 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. Lake Region Post 708 A picnic will be held Sept. 22. You must have your 1964 card for admission. Your immediate family, mother, father, wife and children are invited. There will be food and refreshments for adults and kiddies, games and horseshoe events. Remember no card, no admittance. Junior Past Commander Lou Olandese is very anxious to build the Sons of the American Legion organization in to a big and working organization. If you or your boys are interested contact Lou. The regular monrnly post meeting will be held Sept. 25. We hope to have a nice report from Commander Richie, Orlowski as soon as he settles down after his recent trip to the Miami Legion convention. Boy Seoul* The new Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts is Milburn Meckley. Mr. Meckley is very enthusiastic and has many plans for interesting programs. All boys over the age of 11 years are welcome to join, For any information please call Mr. Meckley at Hyatt 7-3729. An assistant Scoutmaster is needed, any one interested in filling this position may call Mr. Meckley. Brownies Notes The Brownies will resume their meetings Sept. 24 at the community center at 3:30 p.m. All girls in the second and third grades are cordially invited to join the Brownies and Mrs. Wilson will be most happy to welcome you. She hopes to see many new faces at the meeting and many of the girls from last season. Rockel on the birth of their new grandson, who has the distinction of being born at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The baby has been named Daniel. His parents are Don and Chris Rockel. They have been making their home in Honolulu since Don is stationed there with the Navy. A big welcome to the ever growing bike craze in the Highlands. Jane Malek is braver than most of us, she lyke rides all the way in to Fox Lake with little Joan on behind. Still another family will soon be leaving the Highlands. The Donald DuPonts are selling their home and leaving for the south, Don has been transferred and will miss the Highlands having lived here for several years. We wish them every good luck and we know they will find loads of new friends. Don and Audrey Morin entertained Audrey's sister and family, Bob and Charlotte Andersen and daughters from Neenah, Wis., Sept. 134. Sept., 14 Don's cousins, Paul and Lea Doris from Kankakee, spent the day and night with them. The gals from the Highlands who attended the Blessed Virgin Sodality Sept. 10 were Cub Scout Pack 452 The first meeting of the new season was held Sept. 11, at the Pistakee Community Center hall. There are thirty-four members and they are badly in need of Den mothers. Unless the Highlands gets more mothers to come forth and be Den mothers the new News Of Your Friends And Neighbors Woody Reinhardt enjoyed a week's vacation last week and returned to work Sept. 16. He spent it helping around the hpuse and having a few days relaxation and fun and seeing old friends. Gert and Roy Snell entertained Gert's cousin, Margaret Wight from Clinton, Iowa, for a few days last week. George and Marilyn Van- Zevern moved Sept. 8 and are busy getting settled in their very beautiful home at 815 Oakwood in Wilmette. They hope all their friends will re' member them. Dick Morley is' a little sad because he has been transferred to Zion, after working for several years in Waukegan but I am sure Dick will soon make as many new friends as he had in Waukegan. Sept. 12, Lois Mason was hostess for the Tripoli card club which resumed after the summer months. Present were Lee Conway, Haze Morley, Janice Janquart, Ginny Emmerich, Lily Hovseth, Dorothy Erbin and Doris Hansen. After Playing cards the gals enjoyed some delicious goodies and they all agreed it was nice to be back together. Congratulations to Robert and Emily Thode and to Victor Women's Club Opens Fall Season The first meeting of the new fall season of the Pistakee Highlands Women's club will be held at the community center Sept. 25. All new members and any one wishing to join are urged to be present. The invitation to all women from the surrounding areas to join the club is proving quite successful. It is hoped that many will join and we can get better acquainted with folks in our area. The fish will fx? on display in Wisconsin and he was awarded ,a prize. Just received word that Clarence Shastal has been released from the hospital and is doing fine after his accident. Dorothy Erbm is nome from the hospital and I am happy to say she is doing just fine, with her courage she can't lose. Keep up the good work gal. Some one has been very busy stealing boat parts at the piers, So far Wroblewskis have lost their gas tank and to add insult to injury it was a full tank, Ray Novotny had his fire extinguished, stolen, Craig Thoren had his brand new boat cover stolen, another boat owner had his motor stolen. All this is being done at night. Too bad the people did not take the time to call the police when they saw people down,.there late at night. Thursday 'ft Sept 12, Dick and Haze Morle^ entertained Haze's mother for a big birthday dinner. They were celebrating Haze's mothers birthday and their son Dickie's birthday. Sept. 15, the Morleys went to Haze's parents for another family celebration for her mother, Haze's sister and family were on hand for the big day. Wednesday morning, Janice Janquart, Lois Leuth, Haze Morley and myself visited Dorothy Erbin. We all enjoyed coffee and seeing Dorothy in such good spirits. Dorothy will have to be home for awhile and a few car.ds of cheer would do wonders and give her a terrific lift. Herb Lindemann's vacation is over for another year. They visited with Bill and Dorothy Lindemann, all of Lorraine's cousins, visited her Dad's grave and fixed it all up real pretty. Sept. 14, they attended Lorraine's niece's wedding. Maureen O'Hara was married at a Nuptial High Mass. Sept. 15, they had dinner with their daughter Marilyn's in-laws, the senior Van Dobbins. They spent Sunday evening with her sister, Bernice Ford. They ended the vacation with a big climax by having dinner and a movie. Jeanne Hillstrom was in attendance at the Democratic Woman's club, 12th and 16th Congressional District," Meet Your State Government Officals." She enjoyed a delicious luncheon. The day, Friday the thirteenth, did not deter her from attending. The weather could' have been better b?t she enjoyed all the folks and meeting every one. Norm and Pat Pedersen have moved from the Highlands and they hope to settle some place close to this area. Norm had been very active in the local archery club and won many trophys. They moved from here Sept. 7 and we are sure tljgy will find a nice place.
