Several important issues came up for discussion and approval by the small group who showed up for the meeting. Among these issues were snow plowing, beach fencing, the recent picnic, the Island Lake carnival and the Christmas dance. All of these issues either directly or indirectly effect all of us. Without, attending meetings you have no voice or vole in anything. If yOu're interested and want to know what is going on, make it a point to be out at the next meeting. Without an association there will be no improvements whatsoever. The roads will never be graded, there will be no snow plowing then what? Ask yourself, and come on out to the next meeting, and by all means, get your dues paid up. Crazy Hats and Games . It will be fun,fun, fun for the ladies of the Holiday Hills Woman's Club next Wednesday, Oct. 9, when the program for the evening will include a crazy hat contest with prizes awarded for the craziest, followed by a favorite game of all the ladies. All this will take place following a brief business meeting and the introduction of Wayne Samson who represents the Blackhawk Area Council of the Boy Scouts. Time will be allowed between the business meeting and the contest, to allow the ladies to don their hats and place them at just the right angle. I. B. M. Graduate John Bough, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bough, recently graduated from I.B.M. school with high honors. Studying data processing, he was in an exceptional class which finished the course in less than the required time and he still came up with an A average. Bongh Boy Transferred Harold Bough, the Senior Boughs other son, who is in the service, has just recently been transferred to another base and is now living in El Paso, Texas, with his wife and two sons, Richard Allan, aged 4, and Edward, 1 year old. Responsibilities and his service status keep Harold and his family busy and a long way from home. Later in the day, she celebrated again with cake and coffee for Grandma Schelley, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Weiss, Aunt Agness and Mr. and Mrs. Art Weiss. ©AVID WALKINGTON JOINS STAFF OF ORANGE COLLEGE Of interest to many McHenry residents is word that a former local boy is among eight persons added to the Orange State college faculty at Fullerton, C»lif He is David Sympathy Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to Pat and Bud Roth on the loss of Bud's mother, Mrs. Elvira Roth, who passed away early Sunday morning at Mc- Henry hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Roth came out to visit Bud and his family Saturday, Sept. 21, and Mrs. Roth became ill during their visit. She was rushed to McHenry Hospital where she died several hours later. Ladies Enjoy Prizes At last months Woman's club meeting, the prizes included lessons in ceramics. Last week Joan Schroeder, Phyl Harper, Elaine Schmitt and Jean Baird took advantage of the lessons, which included the materials also. They all came back so full of enthusiasim, that we may end up with a whole subdivision of ceramic artists. They urge the other girls to take advantage of these lessons. Leslie's 3rd Birthday Leslie Jende recently celebrated her third birthday with a party for her little friends and their moms. Cake, ice cream and soda, games and prizes were the fare for the day for Judy Abbink, Kathy Schmitt and Wendy Young. „ Greetings Belated birthday greetings to Doris Filips who had a birthday on Sept. 22, and late but sincere anniversary greetings to Betty and Louie Sawisch whose im portant day was Sept. 27. The first week in October finds us with birthdays galore, and so we send our best wishes for happy days to Joey Foreman and Roy Breede on Oct. 4, Gerfy Breede on Oct. 5, and Linda Filip, Ricky Ary and my own better half on Oct. 6. Garden Club News The Holiday Hills Garden Club held their last meeting at the home of Phyl Harper last Friday evening. The subjects discussed was the care and planting of bulbs which should be planted now for spring flowers. Visiting Rene Jende had pleasant surprise recently, when upon arriving home she found a note saying her Mom, Mrs. M. Dzanbazof of Caspian. Mich., had come up for a visit. With Rene not home she decided to leave a note and return in a short while, which she did and they have been enjoying a very pleasan visit, with plenty time to "talk and visit. Walkington, a native of McHenry and the son of Mr. and Mrs. David JH. Walkington of 4126 E. Oak street, Phoenix, Ariz. Walkington, now 33, formerly part time faculty member at the college, joined the college biology department as fulltime assistant professor. Prior to becoming a staff member there, he served as an instructor at Arizona State university. He has done research in economic uses for cacti and survey woi'k into hay fever plants and other common allergens in the Phoenix area. It was in 1962 that Walkington was awarded a $1,000 scholarship by Claremont college in California to continue work toward his PhD in plant science. The Walkington family left McHenry to make their home in Phoenix twenty-two years ago. David is now married and has a four-year-old daughter. His grandfather is B. M. Walkington ofRingwood.
