Chamber of Commerce had its first meeting since June last Thursday evening at Mill Inn. During the meeting Horace Wagner gave a report on the new entrance signs which have been installed and told of all the favorable comments which have been received. It was definitely decided to continue the Christmas decorating contest this year. This will be the fifth year the contest has been held. A committee has been appointed to take charge of the contest and more details will be forthcoming. It was brought to the attention of the members that last year (and in fact, each year of the contest) several contestants blamed the committee because they didn't win. The committee has nothing to do with the judging of the displays. Judges are brought in from out of town for this purpose so there will be no partiality shown. The committee's job is to get the prizes, plan the awards party, make the posters, plan the publicity, and set up the rules of the contest. They have nothing whatsoever to do with judging the displays. Each person feels that they should win but there can only be so many winners and so many prizes. Otherwise it wouldn't be a contest. Another committee was appointed to work out the details of a "Twelfth Nite" celebration of some sort to go along with the burning of the trees. We will have more details on this later too and will report from time to time on it. The next meeting will be moved up one week because of Halloween. The meeting will be at LaGreca's on Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. At this meeting the Chamber plans to have a representative of the proposed Junior College address the group and conduct a question and answer session. The public is always invited to these meetings. Wonder Woods Ladles CI roup Meets Twenty ladies attended the first fall meeting of the Wonder Woods Ladies Group held at Millie's on Tuesday Sept. 24. Alice Juel was elected chairman for the new year and Jo Pryor was elected secretary- Treasurer. Mrs. Oswald Fink, who is a new permanent resident, was truest at the meeting. The Fink family have just moved into a lovely new home. Mrs. Osterlund (she of the nimble fingers) has a new project and will demonstrate it at our next meeting. The club voted a special appreciation to Lulu Carlson and Hazel Killam for the interesting meetings and good attendarifce last year and also to Mary Sandgren for allowing the use of their home for meetings for several years. The Ladies will have their meetings at Millie's this year on the last Tuesday of each month and will meet each month until next June, weather permitting. Mrs. Carlson furnished the pound cake which was served with coffee. Plan to attend the October meeting. It will be of interest to you. Wointai Lake Yarht Club The Wonder Lake Yacht Club had its annual dinner party at the Wing 'n Fin on Saturday, Sept. 29, and it was well attended and enjoyed by all. Church School at 9:30 a.m. At 11:55 a.m. Sunday there will be a special meeting of the congregation to take action on important items: Church Council Meeting - Tuesday at 8 p.m. Junior Catechism Class at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and at 8 p.m. the Altar Guild will conduct their meeting. Kids - Dogs - and School Buses A party called me last Sunday to ask if there was anything I could do about children bringing their dogs with them to the corner to wait for the school bus. I told her there was nothing I could do about it as it is up to the owners of the dogs but I do agree that it is not a good practice. Several times I have noticed cars have had to either stop or go over into the opposite lane to avoid hitting a dog or dogs that were running around on the road with the children waiting for the buses. I have had to do it several times myself. In the winter when the roads are slippery a serious accident could result from this and it might even result in a child being hurt. Also, in protecting their charges dogs get a little over zealous and when the children are scuffling as they do a child could be bitten by a dog very easily and I believe this has happened several times. Please take these things into consideration when you let the family dog go with the kids to the bus stop. Anniversary Trip Mr. and Mrs. Ed Muchow plan to take a trip to Dysart, Iowa, on Oct. 5 to Helen Muchow's mother's home to celebrate theii* fortieth wedding anniversary with friends and relatives in Dysart. Their anniversary is Oct. 6. Helen's mother, Mrs. Schul.tz, will return with the Muchows to Wonder Lake to spend the winter here and in Chicago. Sincere congratulations to you both and1 have a nice trip but hurry back. Bake Sale Successful The ladies of the Wonder Lake held a "white elephant and bake sale" last Saturday at the Ice Cream Parlor and report it was very successful. Thanks to the efforts of all the members who donated items and who worked at the sale all day - especially Marian Carder, Rose Murphy, Betty Fiala and Mabel Nelson - the project was a success and the proceeds will go to aid their civic beautification project at the post office which has already started. Two new trees have been planted and the Garden Club plaque has been installed. More work is planned and the ladies will keep everyone informed as the work is completed. Happy Anniversary Last weekend seemed to be a popular one for wedding anniversaries. Our best wishes may be a little late but please accept them anyway. Emil and Julie Maio celebrated their thirty-third anniversary on Saturday night with open house at their place of business. Severin and Pat Lodewyck, who celebrated one full year of married life on Sunday celebrated with Severin's parents- Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Vidovich of Cherry Drive, who were married 23 years on Saturday. Married at Christ the King Church Joan Kearney Collins of Chicago and Frank Shannessy of 7711 Beaver Road were married last Saturday at 11 a.m. Mass at Christ the King Church. and join the others and have a real high old Halloween party all afternoon. All children attending public school are to attend these classes. In addition, all in second grade, regardless of what school they attend, are to attend First Communion Class; also everyone who is in fifth or sixth grade or over who has not been Confirmed is to attend. The high school of religion will meet starting next Sunday at 11 a.m. All high school youth not attending Catholic school have a serious obligation to attend this school of religion each Sunday. All those who attend the high school or religion plus all youths attending Catholic schools will become, automatically, members of the Catholic Youth Organization (C.Y. O.) of Christ the King church.
