Parents need not be P.T.A. members to attend, and all are invited, as well as other interested persons who want to see how the school is functioning, said Lee Pickrum, president. The P.T.A, open house is not to be confused with the school's official teacherparents' conferences that will be held later. P.T.A. began its new year with enrollment of members. Parents of all 453 Harrison students are invited to join. Early indications point to another record membership year as greater numbers show interest in school-P.T.A. affairs. SACRO-ILLAC STRAIN A condition the public is hearing a lot about. V.J It causes, in most cases, ' intense pain in the lower back and leg. Proper adjustments of the joint usually brings instant relief. An enthusiastic group of members attended the SflJtem- Itor meeting of the McHenr Garden club at the home M Mrs. Vaughn Jones on Pistakee Hay. After the women had enjoyed the delicious (lessen while admiring the beautifu view, Mrs. Fred Svoboda, president, started on the' agenda at hand. She gave a stimulating report on the president's council meet in/ of the Garden Clubs of 111 nois. It was stressed that ga: den clubs must drop their e> elusive and social aspects ar<i enlarge their memberships an i scope of activities. The members were in complete accord with this. While they have enjoyed the intimate meetings, they realize that a larger membership is necessary to fulfill their obligations to a growing community and immediately made plans to do this. One of the deterrents to a larger group has been the problem of accommodating it in a private home. This has been resolved by planning to hold the meetings in one of the central quarters, which will also allow for programs by authorities in the various fields of gardening. As a first step, it is planned in November to have an open meeting at which a well known teacher will demonstrate the making of Christmas decorations. Details of this meeting will be announced later. All will be welcome. Anyone interested in joining the Garden club may make application to any one of the members at any time. There are many ways in which McHenry can be served by an interested horticultural group, and it is felt that a large active garden club can fulfill these needs.
