The following women were initiated and received their pins: Lillian Orlowski, mother of Post Commander Richie Orlowski, and motherin- law of Dorothy Orlowski, first vice-president on the auxiliary; Evelyn Kosick, Kay Sielisch, Adeline Schulz, Jocelyn Staudenmaier and Betty Zenner. We were greatly impressed with the very beautiful Initiation ceremonies and were duly proud to support our husbands in their Legion work. After the business meeting the members enjoyed cake and coffee. The other members from the Highlands attending the meeting were: Dorothy Orlowski, Dorothy Jenkins, Mary Seldon and Pat Kosick, a junior member. Nov. 3, the auxiliary will hold a card party and smor- V, gasbord at 3 p.m. The annual Christmas party for the members' children will be held Dec. 20. The next meeting of the men of Post 703 will be held Oct. 23. St. John's Notes Sunday, Oct. 13, the annual investiture of members was Held with Communion Sunday top the Blessed Virgin sodality. Thirteen new members were invested. The two from the Highlands were: Rose Schifferdecker and Mary O'Neill. Other members attending were: Celia Thelen, Rosemary Thelen, Lois Thelen, Mabel Gregg, Ann Guyser, Marilyn VanZevern, Beverley Lewandowski, Dorothy Jenkins, Kay Sielisch and Betty Ztnner. The next meeting of the Blessed Virgin Sodality will be Nov. 12. Class Mates Reunion Oct. 19, Dick and Haze Morley were hosts for the annual elkss reunion of Haze's classmates. Those in attendance were Sue and Jim Barrett of Crockett Estates, Joan and A1 May, Spring Grove, Claire and Carl Ziem Mallen of Round Lake Beach, Shirley and Bob Wicinski of Wildwood, Grayslake, and Gladys and Wally Haas of Elk Grove Village. The couples, enjoyed delicious roast beef, german potato salad, jello molds, hors-doeuvres cake and •coffee* They played several games and enjoyed catching up jOn all the interesting events since last yoar. All the couples recently attended their Alma ..Mater homecoming, at Grant "High school, in Fox Lake. Mount Hope Church Notes Leif Eide has been named treasurer of the Mount Hope church board to replace George VanZevern, who is now living ih Wilmette. Oct. 15, the organ fund raisers held a demonstration and all proceeds from the sales went to the organ fund. From all reports the sales were a big success and was well worth the efforts. Last week five members of the Women's Society of Christian Service spent a day buying yarn and material for the upcoming Nov. 2 bazaar. They also enjoyed a smorgasbord luncheon. The women who enjoyed the shopping trip were Hazel Rodge, Alice Harris, Delores Bischoff, Delores Meckley and Delores Gregg. Oct. 24 Marie Perschke is holding a demonstration in her home and in lieu of accepting the usual gifts for such affairs, Marie will donate all the money she receives to the Women's Society of Christian Sex-vice for the bazaar. Birthdays And Anniversaries Birthday greeting to the wonderful forever young Celia Thelen who celebrates her birthday Oct. 25. To my friend and neighbor, Liesl Hanisch, who celebrates Oct. 31 and to my little bitty buddy Brad Morley who will be a big four years old on Oct. 28. To the Ernsts, my neighbors across the street, both Arthur and Clara Ernst celebrate their birthdays Oct. 25. What a wonderful event, they can never forget each others birthdays. Some fine couples are celebrating their anniversaries. First Jim and Car la Bales celebrate their anniversary Oct. 25. Oct. 28, Martin and Hazel Rodge will be adding another year to their very happy marriage. To my cousins, Tony and Tillie Schafer of Beal City, #Mich., who will be celebrating 52 years of wedded bliss Oct. 25 and to Ron and Pat Jackson who celebrated their big day Oct. 22. Farewell Coffee Clutch Oct. 21, Mary Seldon, Dorothy Jenkins and Rosemary Thelen were hostesses for a farewell party in honor of Joan Zilligen held in Joan's home. The surprise gathering included the following gals, Mary Lou Sabielny, Diana Murgatroyd, Kay Sielisch, Betty Zenner, Teena O'Malley, Beverley Lewandowski, Jane Malek, Sylvia Murray, Terry Ozrr.inski Ruth Redman, Terry Pfmgsten, Joan Tomasello, Frances Groth, Mary Ann Trent, Sally Jo Von- Bruenchenheim, Kay Reilly, Virginia Thoren, Ann Mc- Inerny, Harriet Wilson, Myrtle Bentz, Lorraine Ullo and Eleanor Wroblewski. The party was held at 8 p.m. and it was a sad party for all who attended, Joan has lived here for many years and has been active in civic affairs, served as secretary and vice president of the Women's Club. Dick and Joan Zilligen have sold their home on Thelen drive and have purchased a home at 17 Franklin Avenue, in River Forest. The Zilligens will move Oct. 24 and 25. We all wish them much good luck in their new home and we shall miss them very much. They both have more friends in the Highlands they hate to leave but knowing both of them, they will have as many in their new neighborhood. Just don't forget all your buddies here Joan. 52nd Wedding Anniversary Oct. 25 Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ristow of Woodland Drive will be celebrating 52 years of wedded bliss. Both are very active and both are enjoying good health. They love working in their yard and keep their home just beautiful. They both are very youthful in their appearance and have many friends in the Highlands and all the kiddies in their neighborhood call them grandma and grandpa Ristow. I hope your day will be a bright and sunny one and may God grant you both continued good health and many more years together. Senior Citizen Receives Award Our heartiest congratulations go to Gert Snell, who received a pin for over 200 hours of volunteer service at the Pink Lady Shoppe in the McHenry hospital. Gert is a member of the auxiliary to the hospital and a vei'y active member of the Pink Lady Sewing Guild. God Calls Another Little Angle Early Tuesday morning Oct. 15, little Paul Lee Hartwig was found dead in his crib. Paul Lee was the son of I eRoy E. and Kathryn Hartwig of 316 West Broadway. He was born Aug. 29, 1963 at the McHenry hospital. Besides his mother he leaves a baby sister, Cynthia, 1% years old, his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Elbring of Ingleside, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Madelyn Hartwig of Island Lake. The body was at the K. K. Hamsher Funeral home in Fox Lake. All visitations, services and funeral were private. Paul Lee was buried at St. John's cemetery Oct. 17. We all offer our deepest sympathy to LeP.oy and Kathryn, and we hope you will find comfort in knowing Paul Lee is in Heaven watching over you and in time God will heal the hurt. News Of Your Friends And Neighbors Congratulations to Dean and Phyliss Ferris on the birth of a baby daughter they have waited 13 years for. The baby girl was born at t*e Sherman hospital in Elgin Oct. 9, weighing in at 6 lbs. 7 ozs. The baby has been named Laura Lea. The Ferris family have another daughter 13 and four boys. All the family is real thrilled over Laura Lea's arrival. Grace Reinhardt. enjoyed a week's vacation starting Oct. 12 and ending Oct. 19. She and her hubby, Forrest, enjoyed a few short trips visiting with friends and relatives, and staying home relaxing. Oct. 13, Dick and Mary Madock and their children of Chicago visited Dick's parents, Ray and La Verne Madock, and his sister, Marilyn, and hubby, Bob, and family. The kiddies were happy to see their grandparents and they enjoyed the day, since it was ah unexpected visit. Poor Dale Hillttrom is climbing the walls with the itching qf poison ivy. Dale is quite an outdoor boy and loves going in the woods Mamma Jeanne has been busy trying to keep it from spreading The poker club cancelled its Oct. 18 meeting and will hold it Oct. 25 at the home of Ann Szyplebaum. Martin and Hazel Rodge spent last weekend in Chicago visiting their son. Roger, and family and many of their friends. Oct. 12, Rev. Stewart Smith, his wife, Florence, and their three daughters spent the day in the Highlands and McHenry, They enjoyed a delicious lunch with Trudy Rodge, and a delicious dinner with Delores and Bill Bischoff. Dee and Dud Gregg of Pistakee Terrace were also dinner guests of the Bischoffs. Everyone was so happy to see Rev. Smith and Florence. It was a grand day for the Smiths. They miss the Highlands very much but are getting used to Chicago living. Ed and Elsie Brown were happy to have their grandson, Howard Week, spend several days with them last week. It was so nice to have their grandson with them in this lovely weather. Judy Jensen modeled clothes in the countryside hospital fund fashion show held Oct. 20 at the Grant Community high school. Judy has a gorgeous figure for modeling and she did a real fine job. It. was so very nice to see our old neighbor making the rounds visiting all the neighbors. Clarence Jones, who now lives in Chicago due to his recent heart attack, looked real good and everyone enjoyed seeing him getting around so well, and we are looking forward to the day he and his lovely wife return to the Highlands to live. Last weekend Jim Rodarmel visited with a few of his neighbors. He said the folks in the Highlands are wonderful people and he would remember all their kindnesses to him during his bereavement. I am sure all his friends and neighbors know in their hearts how he feels about each and every one of them. Lily Jewell had a few friends and neighbors in Oct. 25 for a demonstration. They enjoyed cake and coffee and a friendly get together. Many of her former co-workers came so they had a lot of fun discussing the good times they had together. Edith Howton is happy to have her brother and family from Alabama with them for a while. Her brother, Wallace, and his wife, Mary Cagle, and their daughter, Cale, are hoping to find a home close by and plan to make their home in this area. Janice Janquart is recovering from the flu and it was rough for a while. Little Joye Mur- Page Seventeen gatroyd suffered a relapse of the flu and will be home from school until she has fully recovered. Oct. 25, LaVerne Madock and her mother, Edna Dennis, and her daughter, Marilyn VanZevern, attended a haby shower on Sheridan Road in Chicago for LaVern's cousin, Sandra Fredricks. Jerry and Janice Janquart were so proud of their two beautiful daughters Oct. 12. The two girls attended the McHenry high school homecoming. Cheri and her boy friend, Ron Galvin of McHenry, and Jeanne and her boy friend, George Lissy of Wonder Lake, enjoyed the big event and after the homecoming dartce the two couples enjoyed a delicious late dinner. Cheri and Jeanne were presented with their vary first orchid corsages by their boy friends, a big event in a girl's life, I can still remember my first date and corsage. The girls looked lovely in their pretty new dresses and the boys real handsome in their suits. It seems like only yesterday that the two girls were little grammer school girls. Jim and Mary O'Neill have Mary's nephew from Detroit, Mich., staying with them for the winter months. He will go to school and work part time to help pay his way in school. Mary's daughter is moving to their home in Channel Lake. Oct. 15 Bill Hensley was working on his car when it caught fire. His call for help brought Bob VanZevern and Dick Morley to his aid and the three managed to get the fire out with out added help. Marilyn VanZevern, a lay teacher at St. John's school, accompanied the Nuns to a teachers' convention Oct. 16. All the school children enjoyed a free day from school. Last Tuesday evening Liesl Hanisch and her son, George, spent the evening visiting with her friend, Eva VanEmpel in Ingleside. Blanche Haefliger and her sister Mrs Dorothy Johnson from Magnolia, 111., left Oct. 17 via jet plane for Philadelphia to attend a wedding of a close relative. They returned Oct. 20. They enjoyed the plane trip McHenry Shores ACCIDENTS CAUSE DAMAGE TO THREE CARS IN AREA By Bernice Wilson 885-4880 It seems to have been a bad week for car accidents for our neighbors and us. Fred Wetzel suffered a broken nose when his car was hit by a driver who failed to stop at a stop sign and although his auto is a total wreck we are happy to report that Fred was not seriously injured. Ronald Clark of Kinley Blvd. was struck in the rear by another car on Rt. 176 two miles west of Wauconda, no one being hurt in this accident. On Monday my husband was returning home from town and was also struck in the rear on Barreville Road putting our car out of use for some time. Although it sure is inconvenient to be without transportation it could have been worse. Condolences to the Jaceks We are sorry to report the passing of Frank Jacek's brothand seeing relatives and focal sights. Ann Zeman has sold her home on Lucina Avenue and is moving in to an apartment in Chicago near 26th Street. She will be closer to her place of employment and she will be closer to her relatives. It is nice to see folks getting ready for Halloween, pumpkins sitting on doorsteps, Indian corn and all the Fall decorations. Every year many residents decorate their yards,in the Halloween theme and it is a wonderful sight when you're driving around to see some of the unique and familiar decorations. Halloween Skating Party The McHenry Junior Chamber of Commerce is holding their annual kids Halloween skating party. The party will be held from 7 to 10 on Oct. 31 Halloween night. The Jaycees will supply chaperons; there will be entertainment and games. All children in the area are welcome. This affair will be held at the rink in town. Remind the kids about the party at the beach at 6:30 the same evening. It should be a big night for all goblins, witches and ghosts."" Odds and Ends Linda Hattan celebrated her ninth birthday by having Peggy Moore? Debbie Burke, Cathy, Lorie and Debbie Calvert, Jimmy Burke, and Cory and Billy Hattan as her guests. As an added treat all the children went to the movies. Grownups who joined in the fun were Mr. and Mrs. Hattan of Bensenville and Mr. and Mrs. R. Hattan of Lake Villa. Marshall Jacobs of Still Hill Drive has given us eight oil drums which will eventually be made into a raft for the children of the Shores to use and enjoy next summer. We are sure it will be appreciated l>v all. The Whitneys entertained Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Buzinski from Norridge last Monday night. Mrs. Alvide Hansen will spend Sunday with the Zeimels and they are planning on going out for dinner in the evening. The Corcorans spent three days with Bill's son and his family in Wisconsin last weekend. We might as well take advantage of this nice weather.
