2* #«ge Eighteen: THE McHBNRY PLAINDEA1EH Thursday, Oclobec 31; MB3 ^Sunnyside Esiaios RELATIVES FROM CALIFORNIA VISIT W, MANN HOME I9H Wuoyami S8S4199 If absence makes the heart grow fonder, then Mary and Frank Mann are mighty fond «f*her~niece and nephew, Ruth 'Jfiitf D'enpis Crimmins of San Gabriel. Calif. They moved to '^California thirteen years ago arid Mary and Frank saw them only once since then, atxnit ten years ago. The Crimmins came up for a vacation and visited friends and relatives in Skokie, -Chicago and Sunnysjde Estates. ^Wonder how mucji talking it takes to catch up on ten years. JL.know if it were me, I'd end up with kx-kjaw. Anyhow, I ,msd, erstgnd the visit was extre- .inely enjoyed by all concerned. ..Wonderful Surprise - Alice Bieschke got the thrill ..of ,her life last week when her * brother; Gordon Dietrich called *from Lantana, Fla., to tell them ..the good news that he and his 'wife, Arlene, were finally able 'to adopt a little girl, after ••being on the waiting list for two years. Little Laura Marie was born on August 11 of this • and1 what <*>uld be sweeter a darling little two month Uaby girl. I'm sure that •Ch/t don Mid Arlene and their 3S?0-iiC)ns, Steve and Joel, are «top»now spoiling her beyond re- JJJJh1.' Much health and hap- .ptnavR is wished to the entire -Wetrich family on their good n&TUne, but may we offer to Sister and her family our sincere sympathy and our offer of prayers for their faith in God to carry them through this tragic time, Juvenile Girl Foresters They held their monthly meeting on Monday, Oct. 21; and it consisted of their Halloween party and a dance contest. The older girls were required to come in a costume of some historial figure, while the little ones just came Halloweenish- like. Diane Hiller Won first prize for her portrayal of George Washington. The dance contest was a real ball and refreshments were good and plentiful. rol " " Shoppers Special TTris is to inform all residents there is currently running, jiwrn convenience a bus from 32?? subdivision into McIIenry, mQJZ Thursday mornings. It began »'•» » weeks ago at the request rpsjdents, however, the «£uraout.for the use of same has •"tJfgri somewhat disappointing. hoping that the lack mmt ptuwengers has been due to •"WW tnrt that not everyone 0/ t his convenience and i4hnl it wili-be used to greater "atlvanta'ge tn the future. If it is not used by a large enough group of people it will then be discontinued; however, if we do take advaritfuje of it, then not only can we get into McHenry but with enough people wanting it, they would take us to even further shopping districes, etc. The bus drives through the subdivision at ten o'clock every Thursday morning and takes the following route: It comes in on Mayfair, from Mayfair to Oakteaf, from Oakleaf to Florence, from Florence to Indian Ridge Drive, from Indian Ridge to Hickory Way Lane, from Hickory to Grandview, from Grandview to Dennis, and Dennis on out of the subdivision. You couldn't ask for more convenient accommodations, I don't t^ink. Sympathy The people of St. John's parish were very saddened to learn of the death of Sister Beata Marie's sister-in-law. She was a very young woman and left her husband and three little children behind. Sudden death is so very hard to accept, Happy Occasions Belated birthday greetings to the following: On Oct. 25 Dolores Bierchen was ten years old and Mary Davis celebrated her natal day. On Oct. 26 Mary Anderson became a teenager. On Oct. 27 Lorelei was two years old and Dorothy Siepman and Pat Kuntz also celebrated their natal days. On Oct. 28 Dick Janicki added another year and on Oct. 30 Johnny Lakowske was ten years old. This week's birthdays are as follows: Today double greetings to Johnny Fiedler who celebrates his fourteenth birthday on Halloween. On Nov. 3 Tommy Fiedler will be eight years old and Steven O'Brien will be five years: old. And on Nov. 6, our good friend and neighbor, Cliffor Sabby, will celebrate her natal day. Happy birthday to each and every one of you. May you be blest with a happy and healthy year. Anniversaries as follows: Belated greetings to Helen and Keith Wegner who celebrated their wedding anniversary on Oct. 25. And also to Rita and James O'Brien who celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary on Oct. 29. Also to Jean and John Barrar who celebrated their wedding anniversary on Oct. 30. And for this coming week, there are no anniversaries to report. We sincerely hope that these wishes being belated did not in any way dim the glow of happiness that surrounds your love and marriage. May you all be granted many more wonderful years of married happiness together. Doing It Up Bight That's the only way I can describe the happenings at the DeFrancisco residence when little Pam's bird died recently. Being a girl of five years, it wouldn't do that they just dispose of it. Oh, no. It had to have a funeral. Not only did it get a proper burial but a tombstone as well, complete with san music and feelings furnished by Pam and her little girl f r i e n d , Karen Kennebeck. Wouldn't it be something if we grownups could accept life and death as it is, like a child can. SATURDAY ONLY SPECIAL FREE HERSHEYS One Hershey Bar (Almond or Plain) with EACH gallon of J. & L. The E.M. P.O.A. held its meeting on Friday, Oct. 18 at 9 p.m. It was decided at this meeting that the E.M.P.O.A. will sponsor the Teen Club. An officer of E M.P.O.A. will be present at each and every Teen I will be giving up the column at the end of the year, when the baby arrives. With another little one to take care of it will be just more than I could manage. I sincerely hope that between now and then you will continue to be generous with your phone calls of news items for the column and also that one you will volunteer to become our reporter at that time. The Walczynski family attended an open house Sunday, Oct. 20. Daddy was our tour guide for the afternoon. We enjoyed the many displays they had plus a lovely presentation by their Choral Group. Plus refreshments which all the children always look forward to. Carol Ann Dehn was our house guests for a few days, so we had the pleasure of her company along with us. On the way home we stopped in at Stan's mother's and then stopped off to eat. It was u nice but hectic day, since we had to be back before eight in the evening. Little Stan was privileged to be one of the boys in) the procession at the closing of the Forty Hours Devotions at St. John's church. Guess I enjoyed it because I imagine it will be about the last trip I'll make into Chicago for a few months, blimp that I am. That about does it for now. Please remember to call me with your news. 'Bye now! Oh, yes, by the way, Have a funfilled Halloween. Happy Goblin to you! PROFE^IOnS DIRECTORY Signing Off Yes, the column was missing again last week. I had only one news item and felt it would be better to hold off a week and make it a worthwhile column to read. I suppose I should make mention now of the fact that DR. JOHN C. Den 1 made believe that they were ghosts of characters such as Buffalo Bill, the Headless Horseman and many others in a skit presented by their den. They made owls and cats on fence posts, tombstones that were placed in different spots of the hall, ghosts, cats, spider webs and many other things* They were very busy boys this month. Den 2 gave a skit also. Den 4 led the group in singing and came in full Halloween costumes. Den 5 is being reformed and Den 3 is now under the leader^ ship of a new Den mother. The Pack is really growing in leaps and bounds. There was quite a group of youngsters introduced who will officially be member* by (he next pack meeting. Refreshments were served. But I never felt I could come right out and ask him why he never goes to church. One night when we both happened to get into a confidential frame of mind, the words cade easier. He told me that -- of all things -- it was because he hated this business of passing the plate for money. He said he saw enough money at the bank all week without seeing it worshipped on Sunday too. I admit this shocked me. That's why I told him, frankly, that I thought he'd completely missed the point. I told him our minister once said that it gives him a good feeling when he receives the collection; not because this is money but because the people are giving the fruit of their own efforts to God. In the old days, it might have been a sheep, or the choicest fruits and vegetables from the harvest. Today, it's dollars and cents. But the motive is still the same, and it's a good motive. I saw Jim at the morning service a couple of weeks ago, and something tells me that it won't, be long before he'll be getting the point . . • not missing it!
