Thursday, November 14, 1963 THE McHENBY PLAINDEALER Pag©- Thirteen McCullom Lake CULLOM-KNOLL LAUNCHES DRIVE FOR MEMBERSHIP Eve LeveaqM Since his election as president of the Cullom-Knoll association, Roger Kinsey has determined to make the organization bigger and better than ever with many more improvements contemplated for the beach and park. The new washroom facilities have been completed and accepted to the building committee's satisfaction. An ice skating rank is going to be constructed for the enjoyment of youngsters and "older kids" alike. Theresa Schultz heads that committee and will receive assistance from Barbara Thacker and Jim Carroll. The plan is to flood the rink so that the ice will always be . smooth and "skatable," something that cannot be controlled on the lake. An extensive campaign to try and sign up all residents of the village and property owners is under way. The membership dues of six dollars a year will "fatten the coffers" and money accomplishes a great deal. But no organization can survive without a strong nucleus of working members. With a large membership, we will have a reservoir of talent to draw from, and much can be accomplished. Rich Johnson, who has been one of the most productive new members, is chairman of the membership committee and is receiving excellent assistance from his second in command- Ole Olsen. These two men have already signed up many new members and will be calling at your home in the near future. If you do want to join, send or bring your dues to Barbara Thacker, secretary or to Mickey Murray, treasurer. At the meeting of the executive board on Nov. 5, Mr. Kinsey completed his standing committees. Bill Walter was named as chairman of next year's summer festival; Bonny Egerstaffer will be responsible for maintainance of the beach; Jack Schlofner works with the teenagers; this reporter will have charge! of the Memorial Day program; and Allen Mc» Kim is chairman of extra acl tivities. « The executive committee will meet the first Tuesday of each month until the first general meeting next May. Attend Granddaughter's . Nuptials Mr. and Mrs. Theodor Olden spent the weekend in the city to attend the marriage of Sally's granddaughter, Miss Susan Temple and Bud De Wayne, Saturday evening. They exchanged vows at a minister's home in Oak Park and Susan was attended by her sister, Marsha. The very sweet young bride was glowing with happiness in a two piece costume of oft white cashmere' with dark brown accessories. Her corsage was: a huge white orchid. Marsha chose a gold sheath with matching accessories and her cordage was a traditional orchid. The bridal party had dinner at the Ivanhoe Restaurant and on Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Temple held open house for relatives and friends who gathered to celebrate the newly wedded couple's happiness. A touching moment, according to Sally and Papa Olsen, came when the bridegroom proposed a toast to his in-laws and offered a prayer of Thanksgiving for his wonderful bride. The brand new Mr. and Mrs. De Wayne are postponing their honeymoon trip until they get their vacations from their respective place of employment. No doubt the young couple will be guests at the Olsen home in the near future and we shall all havo the privilege of meeting Susan's lucky groom. We wish them a lifetime of happiness and we're sure they will have it! HERE'S HOW YVU CAN "WALK ON AIR"! IN COMFORTABU ties in the district and methods of improving party structure. After visiting both the Senate and the House, Jake had glowing praise for excellent performances by our elected officials. Pictures were taken for distribution to the area papers and the two men prepared a 15 minute tape recording for airing on WKRS. Items which can be used to pack baskets for the event. Heir Or Heirrns Apparent Honored Dorothy Cunningham represented herself and the expected addition to their family at a surprise shower held for the two of them last week Wednesday. The party was given by Mrs. Dennis Straumann and Mrs. Robert LoPresti and held at McDonald'-: Cynthia Rourke helped the two young mothers with preparations and baked a checkerboard pink and blue cake trimmed appropriately. The gals served several varieties of "tasty pastry" and coffee. v Those attending included the grandmothers on both sides-- Ruth Kroncke of Lilymoor and Theresa Cunningham. Other guests were Mrs. Charles Abel, Mrs.N. . W. Swanson, Gladdie Schmitt, Joanne Mai,, Betty Kommer, May Kennenberg, Mrs. Marge Evans of Streamwood, Mrs. Kay Reining, Judy Reining, Ann Matthesius, Theresa Husna and Lottie Piotrowski. For place settings, the three young women prepared nut cups covered with white napkins, and shaped like diapers. Real Clever! The wee lad or lass will be able to glow over the "goodies" around the end of the year. Printing Woes We must offer the most humble apologies to Miss Janet Hansen who was a charming and gracious young hostess at a Halloween party -- and she did NOT trim the Earl Nelson basement with delicious caramel. The copy should have read: "She trimmed the E. N. basement with excellent taste, baked brownies, and prepared taffy apples that were thick with delicious caramel. That should straighten the record. Mr. Cain is chief investigator for Cook County Sheriff Richard Ogilvie and had some interesting tales to relate about early days on the force. Mr. MacArthur was a reporter and photographer for one of the Chicago papers at one time, and his stories were "hair raisers," also. This reporter was pleased because they complimented the cooking and that does go over big with any housewife! Lucy Cain endeared herself to all of us with her charm and chic. They reside in Marina City and thoroughly enjoyed the ride to the country. They had just departed when our home was invaded with young ladies--Diane and Bernice Bjork and Penny Ullman of Wonder Lake. The three gals were persuaded to spend, the night, and from then on-^~ NO ONE slept! Four chattering females from 15-17 can cause chaos! It was fun and we were happy to have them, (I think)! Trustee Still Hospitalized Frank Parkhurst is still a patient at Lake Forest hospital and will be confined for an undetermined time. They are still trying to correct his back ailment. He tells a cute story about Vi Gates who visited him recently and was bemoaning her fate with an uncanny little mouse. They finally trapped him in the bedroom and he had been playing havoc in the dresser drawers. Seems the little fellow was feasting on a bit of laxative he had discovered! This could pose quite a problem. Here's hoping you will remember Frank with cheery messages. The address is Lake Forest Hospital, Lake Forest, 111.
