Carl Thode left France for port of entry in Tennessee and he is expected to arrive in the Highlands Nov. 22 or 2?.. His parents, Robert and Emily, are thrilled to be seeing him again. They are hoping he will be, home with them for Thanksgiving and of course his fiancee is very happy. Carl plans on being married next year. It looks like all good things are happening to the Thodes and it is about time. <> Lake Region Unit Number 70S Notes Dorothy Orlowski, Dorothy Jenkins, Mary Seldon and Joyce Heir attended the Nov. 11 auxiliary meeting. Plans were made for the annual Christmas party to be held Dec. 9. A delicious lunch will be served. A dollar grab bag gift should be taken with you for the big event. All members are asked to bring playing cards, stamps, stationery, etc., for the Veterans at the hospital for their Christmas gifts. Nov. 12 Dorothy Jenkins and Mae Jensen posted colors at the Homer Derringer Legion Post in Waukegan. The Derringer Post served as host for a big party for all the newly sworn in American citizens. The next meeting for Vie me;i Post 703 will be Nov. 27, plan to be on hand for the evening's events. Teen Club Notes Nov. 18 the Teen club held a social evening. Four new members were accepted in the club. A bowling party will be held Nov. 23. Reservations for this event must be made in advance. This party is by reservation only. Books Donated To Library The Fox Lake Library donated many books to our Pistakee Highlands Library. We have a very nice selection of books for people of all ages at your disposal. It is hoped you will use your library more than you have in the past. Birthdays And Anniversaries A very happy birthday to my namesake, Godchild and niece Cathy Daley who will be celebrating her birthday Nov. 23. Have a nice day, honey. To Larry Lutz who celebrates his twelfth birthday Nov. 28, Larry will be celebrating with his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Reilly of Chicago, and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A1 Lutz of Ingleside. They will spend the day with Rosemary and Bob and I am sure in addition to Larry's birthday celebration they will all enjoy a very delicious turkey dinner. It will bo 11 years of wedded bliss for John and Joan Megley when they celebrate their anniversary Nov. 27. John and Joan are a very popular couple in the Highlands, as are the other couple who will be celebrating 10 years of wedded bliss Nov. 28, Jim and Jane Malek. , Brownie* To See "Wizard Of Os" Nov. 23 the Brownie Troop from the Highlands will be present at the showing of "The Wizard Of Oz" in McFJjenry. Mrs. Harriet Wilson, leader, and Mrs. Jane Malek, assistant, will escort the troop. Mothers of the Brownies will pool cars to get the girls to the performance. Blessed Virgin Sodality The Blessed Virgin Sodality held its regular monthly meeting Nov. 12. The women from the Highlands who attended were Betty Zenner, Mary O'Neill, Kay Sielisch and our Bunco buddy Jean Tomas. A Christmas party and pot-luck supper will be held Dec. 11, at 6:30 p.m. There will be the annual kitchen shower for the nuns which is always a lot of fun. A 50c grab bag gift will be passed out by Santa. A mission box will be set up and if you do not wish to exchange gifts you may put your money in the box for aid to our missions. The hostesses from the Highlands for the Christmas party are: Dorothy Jenkins, Mabel Gregg and Olympia Bessie. The gals who served on the lunch committee for the Holy Name party were: Ann Guyser and Marilyn VanZevern. Hospital Patients Little Terry Reilly had his tonsils removed at the McHenry hospital Nov. 9, and is coming along just fine. Stanley Darmody entered St. Theresa hospital in Waukegan Nov. 11, McGee Sluga's mother, Mrs. Nora Whesler of Agatha Street, spent two weeks in the Illinois Research hospital in Chicago and is home now. We hope you're all feeling just fine and hope to see you all out and about real soon. Lil Orlowski is still confined in the McHenry hospital. News Of Your Friends And Neighbors Hope now that my friend Ruby Smith is home from the McHenry hospital after her knee surgery, she is doing fine. With the help of your sunny daughter, Lorraine, I am sure you will be on the mend real soon. Charlie and Rose Schifferdecker spent Nov. 9, shopping for their home furnishings. They are now completely settled. Nov. 7, Hila Heineman entertained several women with a home demonstration. The gals enjoyed delicious refreshments and a fun night. Nov. 9, Hank Zenner's mother from Chicago came out for the weekend. Saturday shie watched the kiddies so Hank and Betty could attend Betty's cousin's wedding in Chicago, Betty and Hank spent the night in Chicago and came home Sunday Morning bringing Hank's Dad with them and they all enjoyed a delicious dinner. Woodstock 338-4200 Illinois hospital, in Fontanna, Wis. The farewell party was for Nell Bergener who is leaving for California. Fourteen members were on hand for the sad goodbyes, Nell has been with them so long. Friday evening Nov. 8, Joe and Lorraine Ullo and son drove to Rockford to pick up their daughter, Linda, at the Mount St. Francis Convent to spend the weekend with them. Saturday they drove to Milwaukee, Sunday they took a short trip to Rolling Meadows to have dinner with Lorraine's sister and family. Sunday evening they took Linda back to the Convent. She will not be home again until Christmas. Linda is so happy in the Convent and we know she will make a lovely Nun. Ted and Ellie Wroblewski enjoyed Ellie's folks, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Benatti, and her brother, Vincent, Jr., of Oaklawn." They arrived Nov. 12 and spent two days with Ellie and Ted and the grandchildren adored having grandpa and grandma B. with them. Bob and Lorraine1 Hurckes will have an exciting time this month, Bob's sister, Pauline Baugous, is busy planning a surprise birthday party for her hubby A. J. His birthday is Nov. 24, but the party will be held Saturday Nov. 23, and as the whole family knows Bob and Lorraine are up to their necks in work with the big addition to their home, they have asked A. J. to come out for the day to help them work, they will keep him here all day and drive him back to Arlington Heights for the big surprise party. Thanksgiving will find the Hurckes family at the home of his sister and hubby in Arlington Heights, Bob's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Hurckes of Chicago, Bob's brother, Dick, and wife, Lou, and family of Kenosha, Wis., will be on hand for the big turkey dinner. Nov. 26, Lorraine's mother, Mrs. Rix, will come to spend a couple of days with the Hurckeses. Mrs. Rue will then spend Thanksgiving with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schulz of Johnsburg. Her three brothers and their families will join them for their big day. Sorry to have missed Rose Farwell's birthday, Rose celebrated her birthday with the family on Nov. 15, I am sure you had a very nice day Rose and many more happy birthdays to come are wished for you. Agnes Wroblewski was very happy to have her sisters, Pearl Lehman and Helen Jesky of Chicago, spend Nov. 12 with her. Agnes hasn't seen the bisters in months and they enjoyed the day catching up on all the family news and events. Happy birthday wishes go to Kip Novotny who will be celebrating his birthday Nov. 28, Kip will have a party prior to his birthday and his grandparents will be on hand to help him celebrate the big day. Don and Audrey Morin entertained Don's cousin and wife, Bob and Lois Peterson, and family from Chicago, on Nov. 17, Don and Bob got in a day of hunting and the gals enjoyed visiting. q Nov. 13, Haze Morley entered Victory hospital in Waukegan, for minor corrective surgery. She was back home in two days and the kiddies along with their daddy Dick were so happy to have her back. While in the hospital Haze's mom took the four boys and cared for them. Wt are so glad it wasn't serious, Haze, and please take it easy for awhile when you get home, Rome wasn't built in a day, gal. I am sorry if you folks couldn't reach me in the afternoons the past two weeks but I have been visiting Mom Orlowski every afternoon in the hospital. I hope sne will be home this week, but I will miss making lunch for Leo everyday, it was nice having Dad for company. I think when Leo and I bring her home, we both will settle down and rest a spell. Nov. 10, Mr. and Mrs Arthur Ernst took their daughter, Clare, back home to Chicago, Clare's leg had healed and she was anxious to be back home, but loved being here with her parents too. Nov. 14, Mrs. Ernst spent the day in Park Ridge at her former church helping her old friends with their annual bazaar, Mrs. Ernst really enjoyed herself that day. Good news: Dan Johnson was released from the hospital and is home with Betty who is so happy to have her hubby back. It will be some time before Dan can be active again but it is nice having him back and knowing he is going to be fine. Good luck to Lee Conway who has joined the working world, hope you like your new job and things work out fine for you. Commander Richie Orlowski and his wife, Dorothy, had a busy week last week. Nov. 13, they attended a 10th District Legion meeting for the women at Round Lake Post. Nov. 15 and 16 they attended a school fbr instructions for the post officers, at Streator. Nov. 15 Liesl Hanlsch entertained the following gals in her home with a demonstration, games and cake and coffee: Mary O'Neill, Rose Schifferdecker, Dorothy Generale, Ruth Hess, Kay Sielisch and Lily Jewell. Attention please instruct your children to keep out of mail boxes. Many checks and inail have boon missing, some f6und torn to shreds. This is a Federal olfense and a stiff fine can ensue. Please do not ask me to call Mr. Jelinek to report dogs, that is up to you to do. Pack 452 Notes The next committee meeting will be held at the home of John and Joan Megley. Please be on hand for the meeting. The Christmas meeting of Pack 452 Cub Scouts will be held Dec. 11. You are asked to bring canned goods which will be turned over to Rev. Doenecke for distrubtion to the needy in our area. The boys will make Christmas ornaments and donate them to the Mount Hope Sunday School to trim their tree. The regular meeting of "Cub Scout Pack 452 was held Nov. 13. The Theme for the month was "Sounds." The boys from Den 6 entertained, the boys who did such a good job of entertaining were: Ray Thelen, Steve Murgatroyd, Robert Kawahara, Mark Pfingsten and David Hillstrom. Each boy had made a musical instrument and they explained in detail how they made it. The boys sang "She Will Be Coming Around The Mountain." The other Dens made handicrafts involving the theme "Sound." Mrs. Myrtle Bentz has volunteered to serve as a Den mother for which the Scouts are most grateful. Awards were presented to twenty! boys at the faceting. The 20 boys received Service Stars. Den Chief Cords went to Rich Fredrick and Steve Philips. A Bear Badge and Denner Bar went to Robert Sallaz, a Wolf Badge and a Gold Arrow went to Robert Martinec, Bear Badge to Scott Wiggerman, two Silver Arrows to Sean Megley, a Lion Badge, a Gold and Silver Arrow wet# to Mark VanZevern. Greg Scty* mitt and Frank Haggner were inducted into the Pack and they received their Bob Cat Pins. All the boys are working very hard for their awarda and they deserve a big hand for being so industrious. In closing, please be kind to one another and may God tak® a special liking to each of yoil.
