We average 14 to 17 years of age. Some of the parents don't agree with this manna* of dressing. What's the harm in it? Thank you very much. -- Wondering. DEAR WONDERING: Wonder no more. What some of yon may consider "style" Is nothing bnt cheapness, a reflection on your reputation and your sex, and If you're allowed to dress In the manner described, a reflection on your parents. When you have to degrade your body to get attention, you're going downhill fast. High school principals have every right in the world to put an end to this form of "sex appeal" if they have gumption enough. If a girl Isn't smart enough to look oat for her morals, then someone else should. Believe me, girls, you don't look anything at all ltke your favorite young movie star. You look like a cheap pick-up. DEAR DAN: A few years ago I fell in love with a boy who had a very bad reputation and since then my life has been nothing but trouble. The boy lied about me, flirted with other girls, dated them and then teased me about his dating. People never believed me when I told them about him and they thought I was just jealous. Recently he got into some serious trouble and now everyone says he's no good. I'm the only one sticking up for him because I still love him. If I continue to stick up for him, I will lose all my friends. Should I stick by him or should I turn my head when I hear him being talked about? He doesn't care for me and that's why I feel so helpless. -- Lost One. DEAR LOST ONE: Your ex-boy friend isn't nearly as alone as you want to believe. He has legal and spiritual counsel and If he wants to straighten up, it will be up to him. Since you have everything to lose and nothing to gain, keep out of this. He has to help himself, you know. DEAR DAN: I'm nearly 17 and a junior in school and have dating privileges for which I'm very grateful. I've been dating for about a year now and I think my mother is unreasonable. My classmates, all younger than I am, can date the whole weekend and also can go riding with their boy friends once or twice during the school week. They can also go to the drive-in. I can't and neither can I go riding with my boy friend during the week. Mom considers it a date when my boy friend comes by the house for an hour or so to talk or to play records. I only ask for three nights a week on the weekend, doubling once in a while and maybe letting my boy friend come to the house for an hour every so often. Am I being unfair? -- Ware Girl. DEAR WARE GIRL: You sure are. You want to date Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights plus having your boy friend drop by the house during the week and you're asking for too much. When I think of the poor girls who ean't even go to the movies with girl friends and here you are at 16 with a steady and complaining because you can't date three nights in a row. Good grief! You see your boy friend In school so that's something else again. More mothers should be as "unfair" as yours. DEAR DAN: I would like to have & pen pal of 16, preferably from outside Idaho. I'm Colleen Reid and my mailing address is Route 1, Thornton, Idaho. DEAR DAN: We are two 16-year-old girls who would like your opinion about this 19-year-old boy. He took one of us to a drive-in movie and kissed her on their first date. Then he told the other one she was nice and a blast to be with, but she didn't have "class." We think he means that when you kiss him on your first date, think what could happen after five or six dates. We would like to know if we should continue dating him or just leave everything drop? We believe that when he tells one girl something, he kiiows it will get. back to the other. -- N. B. and L. K. DEAR GIRLS: I can't say it any plainer than this: 16- year-old girls have no business dating beys of 19. That la that If you two want to continue dating this romeo, that's your business. But you've been warned. DEAR DAN: I've been offered a job this fall in a store. I would work five nights a week from 5 to 10 p.m. and earn $1.25 an hour. What I'm wondering about is whether or not it would be too much for me. I'm not the smartest girl in the junior class and I have a hard time keeping up with my grades as it is. I do want the job and my parents want me to take it but I'm uneasy about accepting it. Please tell me what you think. -- Fearful. DEAR FEARFUL: Don't take the job. Your primary obligation through next May will be your education and if you have a struggle without working, you would drown by working. I realize the money sounds good but you can always pick up a little extra by week end baby-sitting. DEAR DAN: While I was waiting in the bus depot the other night for my mother to get home from a trip, a soldier came along and we struck up a conversation. Mom's bus yvas more than an hour late so this boy and I got to know each other quite well. He seemed very nice and just before he got on his bus (he was going home on leave and had transferred), he gave me his name and address and I gave him mine. He's supposed to write and I'm sure he will. What worries me is what my parents might say. Dad always picks up the mail at the post office and a soon as he sees a letter to me, he'll want to know everything. / How can I explain to them without it sounding as if this soldier picked me up? He didn't. I'm nearly 16 and he looked to be about 19. -- Sue. DEAR SUE: I'm all for lonely soldiers being comforted but^ there is a limit, you know. To be perfectly frank, I really don't know how you can convince your parents. All you can# do is hope the soldier doesn't write. If he does, don't answer. DEAR DAN: I would like a pen pal. I'm 14 and I love to cook dance and swim. Patty Wright, 2116 Ringgold, Indianapolis, Ind. DEAR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES: I'm repeating myself but too many of you are merely saying you would like to apply for one of the two $300 college scholarships and not giving any details. The more information you give, particularly if you can show you've been working and saving your college money in the past, the better your chances. That's a tip. DEAR DAN: My mother doesn't like two girls going to a place together. She says girls only go together when they want to attract boys. Most mothers don't let their daughters of my age (15) go to dances with boys but my Mom is just opposite. The only way I can go to a dance is to have a boy take me. My girl friend goes to the dances by herself because her mother won't let her go with boys. How can I convince my mother a girl can't always get a date and it's all right to go with a girl friend? -- J.K. DEAR J.K.: Based on considerable Information, teenagers attending regular canteen, church aad school dances go in three ways: stag, with a friend or in a group. The girl attending the regular Friday night hop with a date la the exception. Of course, proms, the senior ball and the like do call for dates. If your mother only will let you go to dances with a date, it will probably mean you will only go to about two a year. These weekly dances aren't that formal that dating la neces^ sary and, while I hate to say it, I believe your mother h** her thinking in reverse. DEAR DAN: I've got twin trouble. My boy friend and his twin brother are joint owners of a car and because of this, they're always having arguments. My boy friend and I like to be alone but whenever we want to go somewhere, his brother and his steady have to come along'. Don't you think something could be worked out? This is getting to be quite a serious problem. -- Twin Trouble. DEAR TWIN TROl'BLE: I've never yet heard of two brothers, two sisters or two friends being partners In a car and not having problems. Either the boys should work something out for aa "every other week end" basis or one brother should sell out hie Interest to the other brother. That's all I can suggest.
