Slimmer In Autumn On a recent Sunday afternoon, Charlotte and Dale Maule had the pleasure of the company of Dale's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Costa, and two children, from Chicago. Besides having dinner and a nice visit, they brought their colored Slides and projector with and showed slides from this past summer to the enjoyment of everyone. Didn't seem so cold after that. Cub Scouts All six dens of pack 452 held their monthly pack meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Den five, of which Brian Kobus, Mike Maule and Stan Walczynski are members, were the refreshment hosts that evening. Everyone who attended had a most enjoyable time. The Pack will be attending, as a whole, the play, "Wizard of Oz" sponsored by the Girl Scouts. Now that's what you call cooperation and togetherness. :, . , Charlotte 1 Gehrke " had her seventeenth birthday and'little Scott Kennebeck celebrated his first birthday. On Nov. 25 that little gal, Diane Noah, had her eighth birthday, also on that date, another neighbor, Ray Kivpf, chalked up his nineteenth yelar in this world, and Leonard Gunn had his ???? birthday. Now for the coming week's birthday list: We have two Thanksgiving birthdays this year. Sherwood Palmer will be eleven years old and our Judy will enter her teens, as she celebrates her thirteenth birthday. Now, don't you two eat so much turkey that there's no room for the birthday cake. (Or should we just slick the candles in the pumpkin pie?). On Nov 29 that lovely lady, Emma Johansen, celebrates her birthday. Nov. 30 is shared by Phillip Voight and Marty Jcsski, who will both be tight years old. On Dec. 3, Andrew Turek celebrates his natal day. And on Dec. 4 Linda Current will be nine years old. Happy birthday to each and everyone of you. And on Dec. 4, Mildred and Tony Senkerik will celebrate their twenty- McCullom Late "BLESS THIS HOUSE O LORD WE PRAY" Eve Levetqne The opening lines of the traditional song of Thanksgiving seem so appropriate at this particular time. Where else in this wide world do people have the advantages of housing, education, playtime and politics that we do? We would pray that each of us would remember the first Thanksgiving when the pilgrims sat down for their feast of thankfulness for a successful crossing and a bountiful harvest. They shared their hard won "goodies" with the natives who, in turn, brought donations for the festive board. They demonstrated brotherhood in the truest sense of the word. We have progressed a long way since that time--or-- have we? At any rate, we have a traditional RED, WHITE, and BLUE holiday ahead--one which originated in this country and can be preserved only by us. Let us all prove it by flying "Old Glory" on this very American holiday and truly thank God for our many blessings. Cullom-Knoil Board Melting As decided at the last meeting of the Cullom-Knoll Association the executive board will convene next Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the beachhouse. They will continue to meet the first Tuesday of each month, until the regular scheduled meeting of the entire organization in May. This was by direction of the president, Roger Kinsey. May you, too, be blessed with a wonderful day and many many future years of happy, wedded togetherness. The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They sre: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Flan to go to church-regularly and read your Bible daily. Does the "horn of plenty" make us thankful? We do not become thankful by our abundance. The spoiled child lavished with gifts is not thankful. It is not the horn of plenty, but the bigness of our heart that makes us thankful. The blessings God gives are infinite, but we must have the capacity to receive. Like a child who carries a bucket of water from the sea, we can only carry as many blessings as our heart will hold. The capacity to receive comes through worship and prayer. We go into the presence of God and think deeply about our life. Understanding is awakened. With new eyes, we see our blessings and are grateful. We kneel poor, and rise rich. Thanksgiving Day brings us a special opportunity for worship and prayer. Isn't this why we want to be in Church with our family? Here we discover the secret of thanksgiving. Copyright 1963, Keister Advertising Service, Inc., Strasburg, Va.
