To all you parents of scouts, if you haven't already sent in your contribution, please do so as soon as possible. The adult Girl Scout Christinas party for all adult Girl flfcout leaders and troop committee members is to be held Oil Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the McHenry Country club. There will be no grab bag this year. Reservations must be in by Dec. 15 to Mrs. Frank Gans, 1502 North Riverside drive, phone 385-1878. Luncheon will at 1 o'clock. The next regular monthly meeting of the Valley View neighborhood will be held on Jan. 22, 1964, at the usual meeting place, the American Legion hall. Attention! Watch for the Girl Scout Christmas tree, to be decorated by the Girl Scouts, with ornaments hand-made by the Girl Scouts, foV the pleasure of everyone during the holidays. News of the individual troops is as follows: Troop 41. Had a Halloween p^rty at the Ballowe resiidence on Oct. 26. After reading "Cadette Challenges" from the Leader magazine, they discussed all the two groups, one working on tbe challenge of emergency preparedness and one on the challenge of social dependability. They are all in uniform now n»/i have a uniform inspection at almost all of their meetings. They used one meeting to properly place all their badges and insignia on their badge sAshes. .They invested Carol Schuh and Laura Raasch and rededicated the rest of the troop at an impressive ceremony when they passed the light of scouting to each Girl Scout. Currently they are busy preparing for a camping weekend at Hawthorne Hill for the weekend following Thanksgiving Day. On Nov. 20, Troop 41's comntftteewomen. rtiet at Mrs. Heins' home to discuss future plans for the tfocp and how they could be of assistance to the girls and the leader. They an plan on attending the Christmas party for the adults 00 Dec. 18. Troop 41. They are continuing their work on the Gypsy badge. Also, they have begun Jtfeparaiions for their Christmas gift project- In addition, are planning on going caroling as a troop. Troop 88. Our birthday party . celebrated on Oct. 29 served also as investiture for Suzanne Melvage and Cary Hill. Those Who received their year pins were Kathy Brennan, Laura Gregg, Kathy Harrington, Linda Hosier, Mary Jo Kennebeck, Lynda Rosier, Mary Jane Lakowske, Melissa and Cinda $4ontalbano, Margaret Moore, Doreen Patterson, Ronda Schultz, Debbie Stull and Debbie VonObstfelder. The Troop committee was invited and from all indications 'jaijoyed themselves. The girls put them to a test by playing an adult version of Kim's game. Work on the Sign of the Arrow was started and early in September their leader, Claudia "Pixie"' Garm, had •suggested gifts for Christmas, homemade and repaired, for the children at Dixon and Lincoln schools. Beanbags were first on the list and since then work on their sign has progressed on the Dabbler and Gypsy badges. They are now working on hand puppets (under the direction of Irene "Birdie" Seliga, their coleader) as well as clay pots, drawing and painting. The Troop will go caroling come Dec. 23 and will wear bright red capelets which they will make, with the aid of some volunteer seamstresses. Their troop committee met on Nov. 4 and discussed plans for their Christmas dinner on Dec. 18 and the caroling date of Dec. 23. A luncheon was tentatively set fcr Girl Scout Sunday, and plans were begun to have this in connnection with Troop 44. Troop 150. This troop spent the entire month preparing for their investiture which was held on Nov. 23 at the Johnsburg public school. The girls who were invested were Gale Dack, Mary Dicks. Gayle Garn. Cathy Hedley, Debra Jensen, Donna Kinder, Pam Perewee, Susan Scott, Cindy Stull and Mary Walcxynski. Debbie Hammon received her one-year pin star. On Nov. 13, this troop held their investiture. New Brownies were Peggy Tucker, Barbara Krebs, Cheri Fenner, Kathy Barry, Monica Halderman, Colleen Miller and Martho Roths. A two-year star was received by Patty McHale. One year stars were received by Marth;'. Simpson, Pam Radner, Betsy Stephenson, Donna Meyers, Charleen Jenner, Laura Kellogg, Celeste Doherty Jackie Biederer. Mrs. Pat Kellogg came to their hard times party and taught the girls a few new games. Troop 395. This troop spent the month of November selling calendars and working in conjunction with the play sponsored by the Girl Scouts. They also prepared for their rededication and birthday party which was held on Nov. 21 The evening of the party was a great success. The committee women were invited and attended and apparently enjoyed themselves. Plans were made for going caroling during the Christmas season on a couple of dates, one of them being in combination with Troop 41. Their troop Christmas party is scheduled for Dec. 19, the day after the adults intend attending the adult Christmas luncheon. Brownie Troop, McHenry. These Brownies had their Halloween party, which was a success with games, refreshments and their personal favors. The girls have been practicing their investiture ceremony which was held on Nov. 19. They are learning new songs for the event to which their parents are invited. They do not, as yet, have their troop number but it should be allotted them as soon as actual registration is made. With Thanksgiving and Christmas so close at hand, their coming projects will be in accordance with the approaching seasons That's about it for your Girl Scouts. The oases of desert areas in tropical lands are usually the most intensively cultivated areas in the world CANVASS VOTE IN SUCCESSFUL BIG HOLLOW ELECTION A canvass of the voting in a special election held recently in the Big Hollow Grade school district was made last week, revealing 353 votes cast, with 218 approving the $225,000 bond issue and 126 in opposition. On the issue of a ten-cent increase in the educational rate from ninety-two cents to $1.02 per assecced valuation ,the vote was 208 in favor and 136 opposed. Bonds authorized are beinj; advertised for sales and will bo opened at the school on Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. The architect and building committee, composed of Donald Bowden, president, Walter Kadisak and Chester Meyers, will work out a time chart planned so that construction on the addition will begin as early in the spring as weather permits. It was agreed that application should be made for Title 3, N.D.E.A., for money to bo applied toward purchase of a new sound projector and rear projection unit. Normal bills were approved, plus payment to Skokie Valley Asphalt for curbs and surfacing in parking and road areas, to Tonyan Construction Co., for sidewalks and bus canopy, and to Schroeder Nursery for landscaping.
