Newt About Our Servicemen DEMOCRATS CANCEL SOCIAL EVENTS BY WAY OF TRIBUTE 1IEMIV C. IIOl C'K JR. \ Sp/5 Henry C. Houck, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Houck, 3432 W. Elm street, McHenry, recently graduated first in a class of forty-three officers and enlisted men from the 24th division, radar school. Houck maintained a 98.6 per cent average throughout the course. He is now stationed with the first battalion, 19th infantry, in Augsberg. Upon completion of his military abligation in March, he plans to attend college in either Illinois or California. His address is Co. C, APO 112, New York, N.Y. Marine Private First Class 'David Ft. Walt rip, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen G. Waltrip of Route 2, Mylith Park, McHenry, is attending the Second Marine Division's Non-Commissioncd Officers Leadership school at Camp L»jeune, N. C. Tho school provides a fourweek training course simulating the realities of combat ahd is taught by veteran Marines. It is designed to develop leadership abilities of the individual Marine so that during an emergency he could assume command of a platoon or a company. Thomas E. Hull, electronics technician seaman, USN, son of Mr and Mrs. James A. Hull of 705 West Annabelle, McHenry, was graduated recently from the thirty-eight-week Electronics Technician school at the Naval Training center, Great Lakes. ; Harold C. Bough, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold C. Bough, Island Lake, was promoted late In October to specialist five, while assigned to the School Support Command at the U.S. Army Air Defense school, Fort Bliss, Tex. Specialist Bough, an administrative specialist in the command's Battery A, entered the Army in June. 1956. The 25-yeaf-old soldier is a '1956 graduate of William R. Harper High school in Chicago. A/2c Vernon Block, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Block of McCulloin Lake, has been transferred to Chanute Airforce base hospital, Rantoul, 111., from the naval hospital at Great Lakes. Airman Block is recovering from serious injuries suffered in an auto accident in July. C.RASS FIRE Members of Company I were called to Lakeland Park Sunday evening to extinguish a grass fire. ISSUES CHARTER The state has issued a charter to the McHenry County Historical society. F - OL CLi McHenry county Democratic leaders have cancelled all social events for the next month as they adopted a resolution at their monthly meeting last week expressing sorrow over the death of President John F. Kennedy. A copy of the resolution will be forwarded to President Lyndon B. Johnson and the family of President Kennedy. William Giblin, chairman of the McHenry County Democratic Central committee, presided over the regular meeting. Next regular meeting will bo held on Jin. 7, committeemen agreeing to skip a. meeting during December. Members heard several reminders to conduct a vigorous ! < gistration drive before the April primary election. James Konan, Illinois state Democratic chairman, sent a letter calling attention to the importance of having every voter registered properly. Robert Gibson, Woodstock c o m m i t t e e m a n , a n n o u n c e d plans for a door-to-door campaign in the county to be sure voters are registered. Giblin reminded committeemen that two new offices will be on the ballot in April--recorder of deeds and county auditor. Harry Brady, Lakemoor, reported for the executive committee, Mrs. Theresa Schultz, McHenry, county Democratic committeewoman, told of the decision to cancel social events for the thirty-day mourning peric^.. After a moment of silent meditation in honor of the dead president, committeemen voted to contribute $100 to a suitable Kennedy memorial fund. William Bolger, McHenry, made the suggestion to participate in this salute. Filing date for the primary are Jan. 20 to 27, and candidates should remember that date, Giblin said. Be Wise Use The Classifieds FOX VALLEY . DENTISTS HEAR"* 1 GUEST SPEAKElT The Fox Valley Dental society held its monthly meeting at the1 Hotel Baker in St. Charles oi^ Wednesday, Nov. 27. The society, which comprises 210 dentists in the Aurora, Wheaton, DeKalb, Elgin and McHenry areas, held its meeting in conjunction with the dental assistants. Highlighting the scientific program for the evening was John T. Nelson, M.D., anesthesiologist of St. Joseph's hospital in Elgin, and Joseph C. Kunches. of the Medical Protective company of Fort Wayne, lnd. Dr. Nelson sp'ke to the 125 people present on "External Cardiac Massage" and also presented a twenty-minute movie on the subject. Mr. Kunches spoke to the group on "Dental, Malpractice Prophylaxis." Both aspects of the program were followed by a question and answer period. Officers of the Fox River Valley Dental society include: Dr. Paul Traubert, St. Charles, president; Dr. Richard Verbic, Elgin, vice-presidem.; and Dr. Donald Cates, Geneva, secretary- treasurer. TRADE MISSION RESULTS Gov. Otto Kerner has announced that Illinois manufacturers who participated in the Illinois Trade Mission to Europe expect to realize $5,564,120 in direct overseas sales during the next year. Fifteen of the participating manufacturers were able to complete sales with a total dollar volume of $612,120 while abroad. The information was supplied to the Illinois Board of Economic Development by 66 manufacturers who accompanied Gov. Kerner on the '1-day trip to Germany, France and England. Purpose of the mission, which returned to Chicago Nov. 6, was to find new overseas markkets for Illinois products, to promote further use of Illinois ports for export and import trade and to sell Illinois as a tourist attraction for European visitors to America. 7=T Auto Insurance Cancelled?
