Thursday, December 5, 1963 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Page Thirteen McCullom Lake WOMEN MEET III SPECIAL SESSION THURSDAY, DEC. 5 Eve Leveaqw Members of the Ladies of the Lake will meet in the beachhouse tonight for a short business meeting beginning at 8 p.m. Purpose of the meeting is to make plans for the annual Christmas party. Helen Scheid is chairman of this event and will select her committee. --one line was prophetic, about the brotherhood of Man. And when we asked that all residents fly Old Glory, on Thanksgiving day, little did we realize that our beautiful banner of freedom would be flying at half mast or with black mourning strips: attached. Fantastic Success For Thanksgiving Party The most successful "fowl frolic" in the nine years of holding thejn was realized at the completion of the Ladies' party on Nov. 23, at McDonald's. There was consternation \ among the committee, following V'black Friday." We discussed the merits of n^t going through with the plans, but this would have been difficult to do, because there was no method notifying the public and the purchases had been made1. As president of the Ladies of the Lake, Mrs. Elma Nelson addressed the large number of people on hand and left the choice to them. With one voice, they said, "Go ahead." Perhaps the dreadful tragedy drove people away from their homes, seeking some consolation in a world in which all the lights seemed to have dimmed. Or maybe, each in his own way wished to contribute to some worthy cause, and we benefited from it. Whatever the reason, or reasons, it was completely successful, and the organization realized somewhere in the vicinity of three hundred dollars. As you must know by this time, the club uses all funds for worthy community projects. As chairman, this reporter was assisted by Lois Parenti and Elma Nelson who worked directly on the committee. Marie Howe roasted one of the birds for refreshments and took over the kitchen duties with help from Bobbie Carroll. These gals are efficient! Special mention goes to Don Parenti, Larry Murray, and Allen Mc- Kim who handled the chores at the "mike." To be commended for their help are Joanne Mai, Helen Schoid and Marge Olsen. And the greatest vote of thanks to all who patronized the event. It was. just terrific!! New Residents Join Community The very heartiest of greetings to' Mr. and Mrs. John Wallberg who became permanent members of the community on Nov. 30. They purchased the former Liston home on the McCullom Lake road. Coming here is no accident. They were charmed with the village when visiting Gunnar and Ragnhild Nelson of Eastwood Drive. The Wallbergs have a married son and family -- Robert and Gail of Libertyville. Their granddaughter is Janice, six months of age. Mr. and Mrs. Wallberg recently returned from Sweden where they visited for some 14 months, touring the Scandinavian countries. We are delighted to announce that Mr. and Mrs. Jim (Bernice) Brown and their very attractive 19 year old daughter Carole will be with us on weekends, and in the summer. They bought Wanda Dyko's home located at the corner of W. Parkview and Spring Roads. They completed the transaction in September and have been busy making necessary changes. Mr. Brown immediately became a member of the Cullom-Knoll Association and his wife joined the Ladies of the Lake. They certainly intend to become integral part of the community and we couldn't be happier. tainment was superb. Diane Marrill, the clever chanteuse and comedienne was wonderful, Raye and Roman were truly spectacular in their acrobaticadagio routines, and Henny Youngman is without peer. Dewey Fricke and Bill Pickett were on hand representing the community and they both said they wouldn't have missed it for the world! It really was that good!!! Details appear elsewhere in the Plaindealer. four stayed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. King, the parents of the younger Mrs. MeNamara. Next stop was Knox, Ind., the home of Harriet's sister, Mrs. Ida Zahlmrtnn. All four agreed it was a fabulous journey and they will cherish the memories for years to come. V'llage Board Meeting Called The regularly scheduled meeting of the president and trustees which should have been held Monday, Nov. 25, was called off in respect to the memory of our assasinated president, John F. Kennedy. The next meeting will be held Monday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. Young Host ^ Rickie Morris who turned 6 on ftfov. 26 entertained his friends on Nov. 23. Those on hand for goodies, games, and prizes were Jeffrey Freund, Bobby (?), Nancy (?), Kevin Rourke, and Matt Levesque. Holiday "Hecktivity" So nice to see so many youngsters home from "the halls of higher learning" for the holiday. Arnie Berry gladdened the hearts of Barbara and Harry with hist appearance from Lewis College in Lockport. Ken Nelson decoratcd the holiday table with his presence, lie was heme from Carthage College in Kenosha where he is chalking up honors. Tom Olsen enjoyed a few days from the labors at Bradley in Peoria. There were many others home . from* various other schools also. Southern Tour Harriet MeNamara is still glowing over thoughts of her recent southern tour. She was the guest of her ron and wife, Tom and Charlotte MeNamara of DesPlaines. A delightful passenger was their 3% year old daughter--Nancy. The four covered a distance of 3,557 miles and toured 13 states. After leaving DesPlaines, their first stop was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Nemec, then on to Pensacola, Fla., for a few days. Continuing on to Tampa, they visited with Lena and Fred Eckhardt who were staunch members of the community for many years. The Eckhardts "wined and dined" them for several days. In Florida, the groiip also made trips to St. Petersburg and Clearwater. On the return journey they paused in Athens, Ga., and on to North Carolina and the Blue Ridge Mountains. This trip took some five hours of positiv e l y b r e a t h t a k i n g s e e n e r y . Mount Mitchell has an elevation of 6,684 feet and Harriet says it is just like riding in the clouds. In Charleston, W. Va., the '"A'Night To Renteinber" The fabulous evening we enjoyed last .Saturday night at the McHenry Country Club will glow in our memories forever. See you next week, in much better health. AMATEUR PERFORMER Many women habitually Btage a balancing act in the home that would scare a circus performer right off his trapeze. The Institute for Safer Living states that no amount of caution will enable you to safely use a stool, rickety chair, wooden crate, or a stack of books as substitutes for an approved step ladder. Off-thefloor chores are both easier and safer to perform with sensible climbing equipment. iHoFlrT McHENRY I ( yjoodMotu S. Choice Extra Value '^Trim SIRLOIN STEAK ii. U. S.
