Doenecke called all his parishioners to inform them, Mount Hope Methodist church would open its doors all day Saturday so they could offer prayers for John F. Kennedy. At the church services Sunday Rev. Doenecke and all the members paid, homage and offered prayers for the President. Monday a special service was held in his honor from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. There were many children and adults in attendance. St. John's church offered a Requiem Mass for the President Sunday at ten o'clock. Prayers were said for the repose of his soul at every Mass and Monday a children's Requiem Mass was said at 10 a.m. The Highlands was like a ghost town Monday, very few cars were seen on the streets, here and there a child would be seen only to disappear back to the T.V., set. A great many men and women were home from work as their places of employment were closed in the national day of mourning. Page Twenty-Fire Dates To Remember Dec. 7, the Mount Hope Methodist organ fund raiser committee will hold their square dance at the Grant Community high school in Fox Lake from 8 to 11 p.m. It promises to be a big event ^nd your support is greatly needed so you may enjoy the yule season with a brand new organ. Tickets may be purchased from Dee Bischoff or at the door, that evening. There will be much delicious food on hand, along with a good square dance caller and good music. Dec. 7, the Pistakee Highlands 'Teen Club will enjoy a Christmas party and dance at the community center from 8 to 12 p.m. All teenagers are invited to attend. Dec. 9, the auxiliary of the Lake Region Legion Post 703 will hold their annual Christmas party at 8 p.m. Please bring a dollar grab bag gift and a gift for a Yank that Gave. Dec. 11, the Blessed Virgin Sodality of Saint John's will hold) their annual pot-luck supper and Christmas party at the Johnsburg community center at 6:30 p.m. Please bring a dish to pass, a fifty cent grab bag gift and a pantry item for the pantry shower for the Nuns of St. John's Convent. Santa will distribute the gifts. Dec. 11, Cub Scout Pack 452 will hold their Christmas party. Please bring canned goods to be distributed to the needy for Christmas. Be sure to get your parish census information in the Father Dording as soon as possible so Father Dording may complete the Census in complain ce with the Bishop's wishes. News Of Your Friends And Neighbors Happy birthday wishes go to Dick Morley who will be celebrating his birthday Dec. 10. Many happy returns of the day, Dick. Anniversary greetings go to a very popular young couple, Norbie and Bev. Lewandowski who will be celebrating their wedding anniversary Dec. 5. Best wishes to you both for much future happiness together. Thanksgiving day found Dick and Haze Morley and their four sons in Northbrook, at the home of Haze's sister, Eleanor, and family. Haze's parents of Spring Grove were on hand to make the day complete for the annual family gathering. Nov. 21, IJ1 Orlowski enjoyed a visit with her sister Nettie and her niece Delores Flynn of Trevor, Wis. They were so happy to have Lil back home and regaining her health slowly. Nov. 23, Charlie and Rose Sehiffel'decker took mercy on a little puppy that had been abandoned by some thoughtless person. The little puppy was half frozen and half starved, they picked it up and brought it home, fed it and called Ed. Jelinek to pick it up. Arthur and Clara Ernst spent last weekend in Chicago andd Park Ridge visiting their children and doing some Christmas shopping. They spent Thanksgiving day with their children an annual event they look forward to and thoy are already making Christmas plans. Dick and Rose Farwell and their children spent Thanksgiving day with Dick's parents in Cicero. The whole Farwell clan gathered there to celebrate the day in thanksgiving together. Ruth and Steve Petrov entertained Ruth's parents from Chicago for Thanksgiving dinner, they stayed with the Petrovs until Monday. Jeanne Petrov recently celebrated her birthday with a big party. There were many boys and girls on hand for the big event, which included a scavenger hunt enjoyed by all the children and the neighbors who helped them fill their lists of wanted items. They enjoyed a big beautiful cake and all the trimmings. Sorry to report baby Ed. Hope by now little Eddie is feeling much better and at home with his family. Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Young former residents of the Highlands, now living in Fox Lake, are the proud parents of a baby daughter, born at the McHenry hospital. The baby has been named Wendy. The Youngs had lived on Fox Lake Road for several years and made a host of friends in the Highlands who will be happy to hear of their latest addition to their nice family. Thanksgiving day was a very special day for Fran Groth in two ways. First her parents celebrated their thirty-fifth wedding anniversary and her sister's new baby was baptized on that day. Fran felt very badly they could not be with the family for that day but like most of us our hubby's/jobs do not warrant such luxuries. Thanksgiving day found Herb and Lorraine Lindemann at the home of their daughter, Marilyn, and family in Chicago. The whole family was on hand for the big day. Lorraine stayed until Monday. She and Marilyn spent a day with Lorraine's sister, Bernice Ford, who is recuperating from her recent heart attack and is; doing very well. Congratulations and best wishes for much success to Floyd and Edith Howton who have purchased a grocery and meat market in Ringwood. All your friends and neighbors join me in wishing the best of luck on your new venture and we are happy your staying in the area. The Howtons have a very beautiful home on Acorn Lane and have lived here for several years and love the Highlands very much. Forrest and Grace Reinhardt and their son Woody spent Thanksgiving in Clinton, Iowa, with Grace's cousins. Their daughter, Gloria, and granddaughter, Denise, spent the day in the Highlands with their grandparents, Roy and Gert Snell. Roy's health did not permit him the luxury of the trip this year, hope by now your feeling much better Roy. Please take it easy we have a need for a wonderful senior citizen like you and your lovely wife Gert. The Brownies enjoyed the day in McHenry last Saturday when they all attended the showing of the "Wizard Of Oz." The Brownies are working on their Christmas project and making plans for their Christmas party to be held in the near future. As soon as I have the date it will be in the column so you will not forget the big event. Nov. 21 Haze Morley was a co-hostess with her two sistersin- law for a baby shower in Waukegan in honor of another sister-in-law. Lorraine Hurckes has been making trips to the Harvard hospital to visit her grandmother, Mrs. Rix of McHenry, who has been confined to the hospital for the past three weeks. Pistakee Highlands Women's Club Notes At the last meeting of the Pistakee Highlands Women's club, held Nov. 20, there was a very large turnout to hear Doctor Ruggero of Wonder Lake, a representative of the Mental Retarded Health school in Wonder Lake speak on "Causes and results of Mental Retardation." Doctor Ruggero showed slides of the school and interesting highlights of the pupils and their progress in the Wonder Lake Mental Retarded school. The club and all who attended the meeting are mpst gratoful to Doctor Ruggero and to Mrs. Huff a member of the board for taking time to talk to the women. Mrs. Huff a mother of a retarded child was jyiost helpful in explaining the issues brought up. The school was founded by the parents and Doctor Ruggero because thoy cared enough to see that their children had a chance to be educated and live a normal life. Your financial support for this very worthy school will be greatly appreciated, they can use all the help they can get. After Doctor Ruggero's speech and slides the women enjoyed a "Crazy Auction," Each member was presented with a bag of beans to serve as money for the saies, a silent auction followed. After the auctions delicious refreshments were served. '; At the meeting plans were made for the annual Christmas party, which will be a pot-luck supi>er honoring all past officers of the club. The past officers will not bring a dish to pass, but all members will bring their dishes to pass, the dinner will be held at the community center, at 7 p.m. Dec. 18. Hazel Rogde made a motion in lieu of th<? annual grab bag exchange, they dispense with it this year and bring a pair of stretch socks and a toyvtp be donated to the Woodstock Children's Home. The motibrt was seconded and passed unanimously. A most worthy effort on the part of the club. Candy sales are reported to be very good. Invitations to all past officers will be extended very soon, sounds like a most fun filled evening.
