> "f Eighteen THE McHElfRY PLATNDEAIXR Thursday, December 12, 196$ PMakee Terrace ^ CHRISTMAS PABTT FOR CHILDREN IN TERRACE DEC. 14 Joytc Toepper -- Sou-M4l The Terrace children's Christmas party will be held this Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Johnsburg grade school beginning at 9 a.m. The committee will pick up the cookie donations on Friday. Santa Claus will be there with a present for each Terrace and Rivei-dale child following a short story and song program. To complete the morning, cookies, ice cream, pop and candy will lie available for all the boys and girls. Parents are welcome to stay for coffee and enjoy some of the children's excitement. We have one request cf parents that do stay however, please help those presenting the progrom by being as quiet as possible. Close to one hundred children waiting for Santa are hard enough to keep still unless the adults set the example. Terrace Auxiliary Hold Christmas Party The P i s t a k e e Terrace Women's auxiliary will hold their Christmas party at their meeting on Dec. 18. Gathering at the Deppmeier home on Circle Drive at 8 p.m. the girls will be treated to special holiday goodies following the business meeting. As in previous years there will be a one dollar grab bag exchange and lots of fun in store for those in attendance. Honor Roll Members In the last few weeks report cards have showed up for the first time this year in many Terrace homes. Following report cards the various schools publish a list of honor roll members. For those of you who may have misted the names in these lists we would like to give our congratulations to those students now. From St. John's in Johnsburg members of the "B" honor roll were A. Kurowski, eighth grade, K. Kurowski and S. Wiggerman, fourth grade, A. Pritchard, third grade and C. Stull and M. Wiggerman, second grade. Students of Mc- Henry high school on the honor roll include Junior Jeannie Benoche for "B" plus and' Bobby Moore for "B'\ Johnsburg Grade School . Begins Basketball Season The Johnsburg grade school (began its basketball season with both teams winning from Big Hollow. Playing at the losers school the .junior varsity came home with a 28 to 22 victory while the varsity won 29 to 22. Their second game this year was played in Johnsburg against Channel Lakel The Junior varsity, with Pat Colandrea playing his last game before moving, won 39 to 20. However the varsity didn't fare so well ending on the short end of a 38 to 28 score. Steve Stahlman, a forward on the varsity, has given a creditable performance in both games. More Thanksgiving Doings All of the Terrace college students made it home • for Thanksgiving. Coming the farthest was Roger Weiss, midshipman from University of M i n n e s o t a . Van A n d e r s o n , friend of Roger's, picked him up at O'Hare on Wednesday and brought him home. Van stayed with the Weisses until Sunday when he drove Roger back to the airport. Both Bush girls were home for the holiday weekend, Karen, Junior at Illinois State Normal, Bloomington, and lanlce, freshman at University of Illinois. Dan Davidson, freshman at Carthage College, Kenosha, Wis., joined his sisters and husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Angelo Campagna, Bensenville, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hack, Chicpgo, for Thanksgiving trimmings with Bud and Kay Davidson. Spending the Thanksgiving weekend away from the Terrace were Jerry and Arlene Connerty and family. They stayed at the home of her mother, Mrs. Meyers, Chicago. Jim, Eleanor, Bob and Maggie Moore took advantage of Ihe holiday to travel to Washington, D.C. Eleanor has a sister in Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Farr, and cousins in Virginia. While in the capital they saw President Kennedy's grave. They also found time to visit with a sister ol Jim's in Pennsylvania before returning borne on Sunday. Traveling tq Michigan City, Ind., for Thursday and Friday were Frank and Fran Dack and children as they visited friends, Bill and Lee Blaha. The Dud Gregg family, accompanied by Dee's parents, the A1 Harrises of Pistakee Highlands, enjoyed their Thanksgiving dinner with his parents, Dewey and Corinne Gregg, Forest Park. Dinner on Thursday found Harry and Grace Gavin and family at the Bruno Perkowski home in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Parker, Mr. and Mns. Charles Schwebke, Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tesch, Park Ridge, and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Carlson und four children, Des Plaines, helped 'he Russell Parkers celebrate Thanksgiving. The Parker girls returned to Chicago with their grandparents Schwebkes for the remainder of their school holiday. Paul, Jean and Nicole Fedorchak spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Daugird, Wheaton. Following a simple family Thanksgiving at the Anthony Kurowski home they visited with his brother, the Chester Kurowski family, in Pell Lake during the evening. Barbara Zamastil witnessed the Saturday evening installation of her parents, Mr and Mrs. William Zimmerman, Addison, as worthy matron and patron for the Roaedak chapter of the Eastern Star. Dale gave the ode to the flag for the ceremony. The A. Kurowski family spent the Friday following Thanksgiving shopping in Chicago and visited with Clara's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hayes, Chicago in the evening. Russell and Dorothy Parker enjoyed a Saturday evening with Grace and Bob Decker, Ingleside. The Lftn Toepper family traveled to Beloit, Wis., on Sunday to visit her sister and family, the Rodger V. Lyons. Attending the Marian Central football banquet on Sunday evening where Mike' received his football letter were George and Mary Mecko. Sunday surprise visitors at the Merhaut home were Harold and Virginia Hahns, West Allis, Wis. Joe, Jean, Jeanniejo and Susan Benoche died at the Ray Hansen home, Wonder Lake, on Wednesday evening in celebration of Ray's birthday. The Deppmeier home has been hit hard with illness of late. The most recent report shows the twins as well as Birdie down with flu. Our sympathies to the Bob Dicks family on the death of Bob's uncle, Julius Druske of Chicago. The funeral was on Saturday. Birthday Greetings Belated wishes to Carolyn Mierzwa who celebrated her ninth birthday on Dec. 6. Many happy returns of the day to Tom Merhaut who celebrates his birthday, on this Friday, Dec. 13. Bud, plus their children Alan, Karen and Scott, had the pleasure of entertaining the following guests: Carol's folks, Ann and Rudy Gamperl, and son, Richard, of Sunnyside; Madeline and Don Gamperl and their children, Lynn and Donnie of Chicago; Ma lily n and Bob Gamperl and their four children of West Chester. Everyone ate their fill of the traditional dinner and spent the remainder of the day enjoying a pleasant visit. Men Foresters All members of the Men's Catholic Order of Foresters, St. John's Court No 96 are reminded that January 11, 1964 is the seventy-fifth anniversary celebration, to be held at the Community Club. Also, be reminded that tickets must be obtained by Dec. 20. Sunny Weather On Tuesday of last week we received a picture post card from San Francisco, Calif., from Lorraine and ' Steve Major, telling us what a grand time they^ were having. On Thursday I received a phone call from Lorraine, saying they were home and ready to give me the low-down on their t;i and vacation. That's what you call beating the mail home. I'll have all the wonderful details of their ten-day trip for you in next week's column. Sorrow Again This time it is dear Marcella Miller who has suffered a loss in her family. Her granddaughter, Diane Ernst, who has been an invalid since two years of age succumded to pneumania last week at home in Roselle, 111. Although she was only sixteen years of age (she would have been scvenl een on Dec. 29),she has battled this sort of thing a number of times. She was buried in St. Michael the Archangel cemetery in Palatine. Our very deepest and most sincere sympathy to Marcella and the rest of her family Jit this trying time. May God in His infinite mercy give you and yours the strength necessary to survive this cross. Happy Occasions Birthday greetings go this week to the following: Today, Dec. 12, Kim Bute will be seven years old; our little "P. J." (Paul Joseph> will be all of two years old; and Mike Tillich, Jr. will celebrate his ??? birthday. On Dec. 14*1 Vernon Medeen will be twelve years old; Jimmy Farley will be sixteen years old; and Pamela DeFrancisco will be six years old. On Dec. 15 Shirley Medeen will be fifteen years old. On Dec. 16 little Monica Davis will be six years old and Mary Farley and Catherine Palmer will both be fourteen years old. On Dec. 18 Tom FelicelH will celebrate his natal day. Happy birthday to each and everyone of you and may the year that follows be happier still.
