They also visited the Washington an^ Lincoln Memorials, the Smithsonian Institute (where they saw the monkey who made the trip in the space ship, the Freedom Ship and the Friendship 7 space ships*, the Peicrson Horn'1 where Lincoln died, Ford Theater, the Jefferson Memorial, and viewed the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier. They went by President Kennedy's grave at night :>nd saw the twin torches burning and next day they went back to Arlington cemetery and stood in line for secern 1 hours to pay their respects at the grave of President Kennedy. Eloise reported there were at least a thousand people ahead of thorn in line when they arrived at the cemetery at 8:30 a.m. They felt that this was the high point of the trip. Tickets for the various tours and visits were given to the McCaffertys by Mrs.. Price, Director of Women's Activities of the Democratic Party - and the group thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They ran into bad weather on the way home - coming thru Pennsylvania antf Ohio but managed to mnke it home I.head of our Monday snow storm-but then Eloise had to drive son George back to Whitewater, Wis., to school and I understand that coming back from there on the icy slippery roads was almost worse than the trip back from Washington, DC. Mrs. Pike has been active for many years in several different clubs and organizations Of the Church and is a past president of the sodality.
