McHenry lost by a 25-13 score. Palatine, considered a possible state contender, had to battle to overcome McHenry grapplers. Every match was close and hard tought. By the end of the season with more experience, McHenry could dethrone Palatine. McHenry had nine Juniors, one Freshman and two seniors wrestling in the match. Dave Freund (103) lost a tough match 5-3 despite more riding time. Jim Andeyson (112) wrestled to a 0-0 araw. Dean Glosson (120) lost to last year's state champion 5-0. Terry Miller (133) out-wrestled his man to a 5-0 victory. Terry is fast becoming more than just a good wrestler. John Oppenheim (145) coming back after a bout with the flu earlier in the week, managed a hang-on and wrestled to a draw, 0-0. j*' Russ Phillips (138), co-captain, did an outstanding job in beating his man 4-2. Larry Schuerr (154), co-captain, lost only by a 2-0 score to Norton who placed 2nd in the state meet last year. Schuerr lost on a take-down, but rode Norton for 2 minutes. Veteran Co-Captains Head Team Three veteran seniors will share the leadersnip a& co-captains of the 1963-64 McHenry High School wrestling. Larry Schuerr, Russ Phillips and Fred Sorenson have been chosen. All are hard workers and have a tremendous desire to wrestle. Schuerr was a state contender last season and Phillips was eliminated after reaching the sectional tournament. Lose to Arlington McHenry lost to a good Arlington team last Tuesday night, but Coach Hutchins believes his predominately Junior team would beat Arlington later in the season. Inexperience will hurt McHenry's grapplers, but as the season progresses' they will be stronger. Junior Dave Freund (103) scored his second pin in a row in 3:31. Co-Captain Larry Schuerr (145) also won his second match in a row by whipping Arlington's Chuck Hood convincingly--11-0. Junior Bill Cawthon (145) wrestl ed his way to a hard fought win by a 1-0 score. Another junior heavyweight, Ron Gelvin, came through with his third consecutive win by defeating Ron Thompson of Arlington 3-1. Co-captain Russ Phillips lost a hard-fought match to one of Arlington's best wrestlers, Bill Anderson, by a close 4-2 score. Jim Creamer (165) dropped his match, after taking an early lead, due to inexperience. This was Jim's first loss. Cocaptain Fred Sorenon (133) wrestled hard, but dropped his first match of the year by a 7-1 score. Results: 94 Brown (A) pinned Lando (McH) 0:24. 103 Dave Freund (McH) Pin- HOLD 53-MINUTE MARCH KICK-OFF DINNER JAN. 1| Mrs. John Boehitib County Chairman, Seeks $12,000 Goal The United Cerebral "Palsy Association of McIJenry County has announced Jan. 11, 1964, as the date of their kickoff dinner, which will help to get the 53-Minute Mother's March off the ground. Mrs. Dorothy Miller of McHenry, president of the association, says that plans are going forward at full speed. The dinner will be held in Crystal Lake and will feature such entertainment as a fashion show, as well as a group of musical selections and dances from many Broadway shows as can only be done by the very popular Ann Varese of McHenry. Tickets will be on sale in the very near future and it is lipped that many people of the county will assist in getting the campaign started by attending the kick-off dinner. Mrs. Miller, president of the United Cerebral Palsy Affiliate of McHenry County, has this week made the announcement that Mrs. John L. Boehm, 3803 W. Kane avenue, McHenry, is the affiliate's campaign chairman for the 53-Minute Mother's March, which will take place Sunday, Jan. 12, 1964. Mrs. Boehm has already gun her chores with the pointment of chairman in the various cities and subdivisions of the county, and with the distribution of other campaign materials. Funds Used Here She would like it to be made clear that the drive for funds for the cerebral plasied of the county is a most important one. These funds are used in this area, to take care of local children and adults, to operate the handicaped classroom at North school in Crystal Lake, and to furnish chairs and equipment as well as summer camp for these people. Very little of the funds are sent to state and national groups as in other fund raising ventures. Mrs. Boehm has been treasurer of the county organization for over a year, and has just been elected secretary to the state board of directors for United Cerebral Palsy. The goal for United Cerebral Palsy in McHenry county for 1964 has been set at $12,000, and it is with this thought in mind that workers are being sought from every comer of the county. COURT BRIEFS SEAL CAMPAIGN TOPS SI 0.000 TO DATE THIS YEAR Hie Drivers Seat X Justice Court Three drivers were fined in the court of Justice of the Peace Charles M. Adams on speeding charges last Saturday. They were Richard M. Jung, Solon Mills, $17; Harry Quadracci, Wauwatosa, Wis., $16; and Theo T. Graham, 909 S. Totem Trail, McHenry, $10. Leonard A. Williams of 1212 Sunset drive, McHenry, had an $8 fine imposed for having an expired driver's license. The Christmas Seal campaign of the McHenry County Tuberculosis association has reached a total of $10,763.98. In announcing the figure reached thus far, Mrs. Claribel H. Naylor of the association urges everyone to answer their Christmas Seal letter. "The campaign started on Nov. 13, and so far our returns are about even with last year, Mrs. Naylor said. We are hoping for a sizeable increase this year in order to enlarge our program." Last year's campaign fund provided over 4,000 tuberculin skin tests in all schools and 6.000 chest x-rays on the mobile unit. They are now in 'he process of doing an x-ray survey of about half of McHenry county's industries. The remainder will be done next year. Mrs. Naylor pointed out that the Christmas seal campaign is the only way the association has of getting funds for their program. Last year's total campaign was $21,282.41. Magistrate Court William Lee of Morton Grove was fined $20 for not having a driver's license and $10 for having fictitious license plates in the court of police Magistrate Donald Howard last Thursday evening. There are some recent changes in attitude coming about in regard to speed and driving. The old "scare" posters (Speed Kills!) appear to be on the way out and speed limits are going up. The country's top speed limit now is on Kansas turnpikes, where 80 is permitted. Three states have 75-mph limits on turnpikes and, all told, eighteen states have increased limits on their limited access reads. None of these have limits lower than 70. State and county highways, of course, are a different matter. Most states still have limits on these of somewhere from 55-65 during daytime, although New England states advise people to go as slow as 40-45. A few states still have "reasonable and proper" limits. The new look at Speeding has several reasons: Harry Porter, traffic manager of the National Safety Council, has said that speed isn't as much the problem as variations and changes in speed.
