COMPLETE WOOL SALES BY END OF THIS YEAR All details of marketing either wool or lambs will have to be completed not later than Dec. 31 in order to receive payments for the 1963 marketing year, Bert Bridges, chairman, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation committee, pointed out this week. Marketings completed after Dec. 31, 1963, will be eligible for payments for the 1964 marketing year. As announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in October, 1962, the 1963 marketing year under the wool payment program has been shortened to the nine-month period from April 1 through Dec. 31, 1963, in order to shift the wool marketing year to a calendaryear basis. Therefore, if any part of a sale of lambs or wool is not settled by Dec. 31, the sale will not be considered as one taking place in the 1963 marketing year. This means that all the information needed to complete the sales documents and show the net sales proceeds for wool has to be determined and available by Dec. 31 iin order to be eligible for wool program payments for the current (1963) marketing year. Under program regulations, wool is not marketed until title has passed to the buyer, the wool has been delivered to the buyer either physically or through documents which transfer control to the buyer, and all the information (price per pound, weight, yield, etc.) needed to determine the buyer's total purchase price is available. Payments for the. 1963 marketing year will likely begin in April of next year, after the program payment rates are determined, based on the average prices received by producers for shorn wool sold in the ninemonth period from April through December of 1963. Payments for the 1964 marketing year on marketings taking place or completed after De<. 31, 1963, will be made in the spring of 1965. MANY PARENTS &»/• BUY BLINDNESS IN CHOICE OF TO® Each year some parents unknowingly buy blindness for their children when shopping for Christmas presents, warns Frank F. Fowle, president of the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness. Eager to find the most interesting and exciting toys, adults seldom give enough attention to their safety. Special thought should be given to the age of the child. Walk through any toy department and view the fascinating new space age mechanical toys. These would certainly intrigue any young toddler but consider the danger of the young child's unsteady footing. A tumble against a sharp point or edge of such a toy could cost an eye. Darts, bows and arrows, BB guns„ sling shots are among the common toys boys particularly like, yet those present a constant threat to their vision. There are no accurate statistics available, but the society knows these items are largely responsible for the number of children's eyes lost through accidents in unsupervised play. Is a lifetime handicap or total blindness worth a few moments of pleasure? Police departments report that youngsters don't always need to buy illegal fireworks if they wish the thrill of exploding them. They make their own. Growing interest in chemistry and building rockets has taught them to make explosives. A chemistry set in the hands of an older, responsible teen-ager is one thing but could mean blindness, serious injury or even death in the hands of a younger, more curious and less experienced boy. Anyone purchasing a chemistry set should also purchase adequate eye protection and see that it is worn when the set is used. Fowlc pointed out that seven out of every 100 blind people are teenagers or younger and over 90 per cent of all accidents are preventable. Adults are far from Immune from serious eye injuries. Many men will receive power tools for Christmas and be in danger of losing an eye before the year in out. Good eye protection worn while using those tools would prevent any injury to sight and permit work to be done in safety. Such tools require eye protection in an industrial situation and also in the home workshop. Fowle summed up the subject by urging all adults to carefully consider the safety factor of every toy and tool they purchase. Studies show that people in their twenties have three times as many headaches as peoplr in their seventies. K BUSS FORD Get a Record- Breaking Used Car Buy Right Now!
