Girl Scouts Saturday, Dec. 14, our troop Joined McHenry Giri Scouts in decorating the Christmas tree iii the railroad station. We were going to hike out but because of the zero temperatures, we took the hike in cars. At our meeting we strung popcorn and then sprayed it with gold paint. That was only one of the many decorations that were put on the tree. We all sang as we worked. On Christmas Eve our troop is going Christmas caroling. Maybe we'll be singing at your door. Respectfully submitted, Alicia Sweeney, Scribe. Community House Schedule Thursday, Dec. 19, Regular board meeting. Friday, Dec. 20, 3-6 p.m. Dancing. The grand total of gifts taken out to Dixon on lasl Saturday by Max Koch and Ed Druinl came to 1297. This was well over the hopes of Scoutmaster Druml who had hoped they could take 1,000. If anyone saw Max Koch's station w»:gon last Saturday morning with the tail gate down and gifts piled to the roof and lashed ail the way to the tip of the gate they would have sworn that Santa had arrived early. Their arrival at Dixoi^ caused excitement in all the buildings and as they carried all 12U7 gifts down a long flight of basement stairs they %vere watched with anxious eyes from eveiy window. The residents who were outside would ask if there was a gift for them. Everyone can be very proud of themselves. You've helped some one, who has so very little to have a little joy on Dec. 25. To all the Scouts, Boy, Oirl and Cub, a big pat on the back. To the people who helped with driving the youngsters around, to those who wrapped, to L.P.P.O.A., Woman's Club, to everyone who gave to make our goal reacheed and passed, to the leaders of the Scout Troops and Pack; take a look in your mirrors at home and be mighty proud. Remember Christmas that you have 1,297 people also wishing you a very; joyous day. Take a well deserved bow, Lakeland Park for a job well done. Birthdays and Anniversaries Thursday, Dec. 20, has Myrtle Sullivan celebrating her natal day and Mildred and (^harles Pintozzi sharing 36 years of togetherness. Friday, Dec. 20 has Barb's youngest and my favorite boy friend, Johnny Meurer, becoming 5. Also on that, day fun loving, hard working Jo Rizzo becomes one year younger as does that There are so many sections real nice gentleman, Bill that have become so bad they I Radisch. On Saturday, Dec. 21 have caused damage to cars. | Kelly Flannigan reaches kin- To everyone who attended the meeting the board expresses its deepest £ratitude. Christmas At Dixon ^ During the past several weeks you've read the above title many times. This article is to let everyone know how the Scouts drive came out. On a chilly, rainy Saturday the Cub, Girl and Boy Scouts went door to door through-out the subdivision gathering many gifts. The youngsters were supervised by Girl Scout leaders, Dorothy Dowell and Maureen Johnson, Cub-master Bob Matthews, Scoutmaster Ed Druml, Ass't. Scoutmaster Art Tiffany, Den-mother Shirley Koch and the following parents, Frank Bartos, Grace Campo and Gene Kraskiewicz. The gifts were sorted then by Mary and Jini Daurio and Ed Druml. Gene Kroaklewicsr obtained a very wonderful stereo-phono^ graph from the president of the firm he works for,*the Scouts, sponsoring institution, L.P.P.- O.A. donated twenty-five dollars and our Woman's club donated ten to purchase wrapping paper, one of the chain stores in McHenry gave gifts, as did one of our community's stores and another store gave the paper at cost. The money that was left was turned Into cigarettes and others were used as monthly commissary tickets for patients. Last Wednesday in the midst of all that snow, the sound of laughter and Christmas carols could be heard coming from the Community house as the bulk of thef gifts were wrapped. The evening wrappers besides Nedra and John included, Petey Oakford, Marge Fernstrom, Les and Billy Eckhart, Kay and Ed Druml, Shirley and Max Koch, Barb and Ron Meurer, Helga Mesic, Dot tie Becker, Dorothy Dowell, Milddergarten age as does Billy Oakford on Dec. 22. Dec. 23 has that real good neighbor, Nedra Eckhart chalking up another year of wedded bliss. The day before Christmas is a real busy one but even busier in the following homes who all share the day Christy Jaenicke, Tommy Bt>ckman, Larry Vera, Tommy Linane, Adam Zujcwski and Dorothy Lense. Celebrating 19 years of togetherness on that date are our good friends, Mary and Jim Daurio. Having the honor of sharing the same date as our Infant Jesus's birth is Bobby Florek. Reaching school age on Dec. 26 is Joy Ellen Grizley, Steve Parisi becomes that mischievious age of 2. That cute Little Leaguer, Johnny Flannigan turns nine on Dec. 28th and the Zimney twins, Pam and Paul, turn 8 on that day The very last day of the year has Matthew Joseph Rogers reaching that precious age of 1. To each and every one on our list as well as all those we don't have goes our very best wishes for a wonderful day followed by many, many wonderful, happy, healthy years. Hope You're Better We both hope that the flu bug which has plagued so very many members of our subdivision has had its fling and leaves us all for a long, long time. Ed Gladman is still a patient at Woodstock hospital. He and Ron Funk were on their way to Wookstock last Wednesday evening when they were hit head on. Ron was treated at the hospital for cuts on his face and legs but was, released to doctor's office calls, Ed I meantime had to have his mouth sutured and also, his leg. His front teeth were also knocked out. At the writing of this column he is still feeling pretty bad, sure bet he'd like to hear from his friends so why not drop a card of cheer to him. Hear Lloyd Wagner is regaining his strength. Strolling Through The Park Mike Daurio celebrated his fourteenth birthday with a skating party for a few of his friends on Saturday. After enjoying hours of skating Mike's mother had hot dogs, chips, relishes, cake and hot chocolate for the boys who were more than eager to devour the many goodies. Enjoying a real good time with Mike were his two younger brothers, Jimmy and Tommy, Gary Guzzardo, Steve Huska, John Reining, Dennis and Kevin Druml. Kay and Ed Druml joined later for the celebration. Noticed several members of our TOPS club forgetting and with justified reason, all about their club last Thursday evening at the Woman's Club Christmas party. Can't blame 'em either it was soooo good. Rumor has it that Shirley Koch is a terrific volley ball player. The icey roads had many of us sliding all over during the past week and Les Eckhart and Helen Strandquist were two of the lucky ones who came out with only car damage. We're glad neither of these two fine people got hurt Our best wishes go to Mr. and Mrs. DeeWayne Fakles, who were wed at St. Patrick's church on Nov. 30. Mrs. Fakles is the former Janice Parisi They will reside in Sleepy Hollow, Dundee, after a honey moon trip to California. Heather Lynn F r a z i e r, daughter Of Mr. and Mrs. William Frazier, was christened at the McHenry Methodist church last Sunday by Rev. Carder. Carol and Don Humann entertained a group from Chicago on Sunday for the Bears football game. The ladies made Christmas ornaments while the men watched the game. Everyone also enjoyed the wonderful chicken dinner Carole had prepared for them. Our ladies bridge club met at the home of Joyce Braun last week. As usual those two Ruths walked off with top honors. Ruth Chadwick walked off with top place and Ruth McMahon took second. Also enjoying all the luscious morsels and Joyce's hospitality were Ann Herzog, Ivy Lezak, Lucille Deitz, Ann Leigh and Delia Julian. Lyda and Bill Radisch were visited by the Reilly family on Tuesday. Lyda and Bill's daughter Jackie, their son-inlaw Carl and brand new granddaughter, Theresa Ann, along with Theresa's sisters, Susan, and little Lyda, and big brother Carl, Jr. Lyda Radjsch not only enjoyed herself playing Sarita for the Woman's Club party on Thursday but did a repeat performance for the "Over 50 Club" that Lyda and Bill belong to. Santa had prepared comic grab bag gifts for each member. Among the entertainment for the evening, pin the ornaments on the tree was played and proved to be very interesting. Understand Radisches and the other members* of the club had a ball. Delia Julian fell on the ice and snow last Saturday and suffered a fractured ankle. She'll be in a cast for a go<xl six weeks and we're sure that she'd enjoy having visitors and phone calls to help pass the time. Her good friend, Edna Delia and in general has been a real good friend," Lakeland Park had a damaging bit of excitement early Monday morning. A car belonging to Mrs.' Dreyer, (had been a gift only la.vt month from her husband) caught fire. We don't know how extensive the damage was other than the car was towed away and you can see scorched garage doors. The McHenry fire department answered the call very promptly in that below zero weather and deserve a big pat on the back. Woman's Club That long awrited gala evening which the ladies look forward to all year has come and gone and is now only pleasant memories. Fifty-six ladies dressed in party finery enjoyed a buffet supper that was just beyond description. Bet many of the ladies went hungry the following day to make up for the calorie intake the evening of the party. ' Mrs. Marge Ray had a very wonderful group of girls doing solo numbers as entertainment for the ladies. Every girl that Ilountras, spent the night with danced had her mother in the audience. Buttons were popping off and zippers loosened by the mothers of the following girls as they did their dance, Linda and Shirley Meurer, Nancy Matthews, Marie and Karen Mescic, Pam Laursen, Mary Jo Smith, Carole Olszewski, Wendy Dralle, Kathy Becker and Jo Ann Rizzo. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus made their grand entrance, Lyda Radisch as Mr. Claus and Mrs. Claus was none other than Delores Rogers. They enjoyed their positions very much by their actions. The two helped the ladies obtain their grab bag gifts out of the beautifully decorated gift box. Decorated candles made by the members of the entertainment and refreshment committee were given as prizes. These wonderful ladies had also made very clever favors, that every member took home to add to Christmas decorations at home. Toots Gerstad, without a beard, took over Mitch Miller's job and led the group in singing many many Christmas carols. Edna Hountras did her usual fine enjoyed a very wonderful evening. Barb and I for two are already looking forward to the 1964 Christmas party. It would be very difficult to list all the names of the ladies who worked so very hard to make the affair the big success it was but one name stands Out in every conversation with all the members.CJo Rizzo, you fun-loving, very hard working rascal, Woman's club would be lost without you and your committee. Bowling News This Saturday, Dec. 21, is bowling night for our couples league. The Braves are next are next in order with 7 points and the Mets still support the league on their broad shoulders with 4Vi points. Drive carefully to the alleys so we can all have a wonderful evening. New Residents Sharon and Dick Wohlert and their two tiny youngsters, Billy and Sandi, are now residents of Lakeland Park. Dick has been in McHenry or surrounding areas all his life and has a brother, Harry, and sister, Nancy Fout, living in the Park. To the Wohlert family we'd like to extend our wishes for many happy years in our midst. job at the piano. No palace physician attended the Prince of Peace -- parhaps a mid-wife or a serving maid. No fine linens were prepared for the mother; no crib for the Babe -- just the straw and the manger were theijs. No royal salute was fired to announce His arrival -- only the braying of the animals in their stalls was heard i Never was royalty greeted with less pomp and circumstance. ^Why? Because man could not raise himself to God! So God sent His Son to light up our hearts and minds with His Divine Presence. His living Spirit brightened the most ordinary and commonplace tasks of the day. If He eould so hallow that stable, can He not hallow our homes, our places of work, the whole of our lives? Of course! Consider again and again the miracle of His birth. Be in church on Christmas to welcome anew the Christ child in your heart. Copyright 1963, Keister Advertising: Service.
