Thursday, December 19, 1963 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Pisiakee Highlands COUPLE MARKS 32ND WEDDING ANNIVERSARY Kay 81ellnc'lb HYatt 7-M14 Dec. 21 Dan and Betty Johnson will be celebrating their thirty-second wedding anniversary. Dan and Betty moved to the Highlands from Chicago over 9 years ago and they both love living here in their beautiful home. Dan is retired but still very active as is his wife Betty. Both do much for the Downey Veterans hospital, one of their many favorite charities. Both are very civic minded and Dan was the first president of the Pistakee Highlands Community association. Dan is the Democratic precinct captain for our district and works very hard at the job. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge and has worked hard for the Masons. All your friends and neighbors join me in sending our very best wishes to you both on your big day. all the colors of Christmas. There is also a sad note. Vandals are once again stealing lights and doing damage. One man was so disgusted he took all his decorations down. It is too bad at this very holy season of the year that we have folks living in the Highlands who would stoop so low. To most of us it isn't just a childish prank it is sickening and very disgusting to say the least, too bad the culprits can not be caught. "Little Man / You Had A Busy bay" Dec. 9, little David Janquart celebrated his third birthday with a dual celebration. In the afternoon, Brad Morley, Robbie Conway, Nancy Leuth, Jimmy and Danny Sabielny, Joe and Paul O'Mailey and Shirley Mason icined David in a big birthday party. He received many wonderful gifts. All the kiddies enjoyed playing games, and of course the very special treat of cake and ice cream. In the evening his family held another celebration for David and he really enjoyed blowing out the candles, as all little tots take great delight in. Christmas Carolers Dec. 22 and 23 the Teen Club will join together and tour the Highlands with their beautiful Christmas caroling, an event we all look forward to each year. They do a grand job and add much to the spiritual side of Christmas, many of us are prone to forget. It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas Each day for the past week Christmas decorations are going up on every street, each one prettier than the other. This ye^ir promises to be a very outstanding year in the Highlands. It is so wonderful to look out your window in the evening and see all the out door decorations all aglow in PRQFEJJlOnfll DIRECTORS' DR. JOHN C. Amputations, last ditch measures to save a life after a compound fracture, were considered reasonably safe; mortality rates ranging from 25 per cent to a harrowing 60 per cent. The great loss of life following even the simplest surgery was largely attributable to the so-called "hospital diseases" -- tetanus, gangrene, blood poisoning and erysipelas -- which ran unchecked until Dr. Lister ushered in the era of antiseptic surgery. The Brownies held their Christmas party Dec. 17, at the Community center. It was a very nice party with all the fun of Christmas parties. Attention parents, there will be no Brownie meetings until school starts again in January. Dec. 11, the Blessed Virgin Sodality of St. John's held its annual Christmas pot-luck supper and party shower for the Nuns. Those on hand for the evening from the Highlands were: Dorothy Jenkins, Mabel Gregg and Kay Sielisch. What a time Dorothy and I had getting there, we left at 6:10 and arrived at ten to eight. Cars were stuck all along the road, several had been hit. We were in the ditch and four teenage boys really worked to get us out. We do not know who they were but we are very grateful to them. We felt real bad because one of the boys who helped us had his car off the road and a car slid into it and smashed the right fenders. We finally got back to Dorothy's I house and Bob put chains on the car and we went another route and arrived safe and sound, Marilyn VanZevern and LaVerne Madock never did make it, they started out ahead of us and went into the ditch and finally went home. Several residents from the Highlands attended the meeting in McHenry last week, for the discussion of roads in unincorporated areas. Sunnyside Estates and Lakeland Park have their petitions filed and we hope to start our petitions veni soon. Wie students from the Highlands who attend Marian Central high school were very shocked over the malicious damage done to the school. It makes one wonder what this world is coming to, ^ith so much hate, destruction and Complete lack of respect to law and order. The parents of the students were horrified over the destruction of the Chapel. The students said they had never seen such wanton and complete destruction, there wasn't a thing left untouched.
