Thursday' December 26, 1963 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Pistakee Highlands Scribe Recalls Events Of Year Kay SleOac* HTatt 7-8414 As 1963 draws to an end there are many memories both sad and joyful we can recall, tragedy in the Highlands, subden deaths, friends and neighbors selling their homes and leaving the area, births, weddings, engagements and new residents moving in. For me it has been a very nice year and you folks have, made my writing the column a very interesting one for which I am most grateful. I sincerely hope you all had a very wonderful Christmas and I wish each and every one of you a very wonderful and happy New Year. Girl Scouts Christmas Party The Girl Scout troop of Pistakee Highlands went caroling Dec. 19 after which the girls met at the community center, where they enjoyed a delicious supper, and a big Christmas party. school. Some find their teachings really outmoded and are eager to catch up with math in this advanced era and they are doing real well too, much to their children's surprise. Teens To Be Proud Of I have received many calls from several citizens this past week commending the twenty teenage boys who spent four hours on the night of our first snow fall, helping all the stranded car owners who had gone in to ditches on the Riingwood Road and Pistakee Hills. We seldom read about the good things teenage boys do, and it is a real pleasure to write this article. These boys were from the Highlands and Pistakee Hills. Children Enjoy Christmas Party One hundred children from the Highlands gathered at the Community center for a gala Christmas party and all received a royal welcome. The children enjoyed movies including the one of '"The Littlest Angel," dixie cups, homemade cookies made by the mothers, candy, potato chips, and popcorn. They also enjoyed a Pinata full of candy. This was a big thrill for the children since many had never seen one befpre. Peloquins Befriend An Abandoned Puppy Jane and Walter Peloquin took in a little puppy that was half frozen and starved. little Cindy who has a dog took care of the puppy for two days, hoping some one would claim it but no one called. They called Ed Jelinek who pickcd up the little puppy. Get-Well Wishes Best wishes for a speedy recovery to some mighty nice folks. First to HelenHHealy who was confined in the McHenry hospital, to Glenn Galetka who also was confined in the same hospital, to Dickie Morley who had a eery severe cold that kept him home from school last week, to Mabel Gregg who has such a very bad cold, she can hardly talk, and to Ray Cunningham who was home from work last week with a vinus and the Flu. Christmas Displays I think in driving around and in our own neighborhood this year the outdoor decorations exceed all other years, all the colored lights glowing from rooftops, eaves, outside trees, lighted Santas and Nativity scenes. Modern Math Courses Many Highlanders are taking advantage of the modern math courses being offered every Monday evening at St. John's Christmas Comings and Goings With Your Neighbors Arthur and Clara Ernst spent Christmas in DesPlaines with their daughter and family, with all their children on hand. Monday they went to Chicago to their daughter's home and helped them trim their tree, Tuesday to another daughter in Park Ridge and Christmas day with another daughter in DesPlaines and their family.
