Enhances Festive Mood The cold weather enhanced rather than detracted from the festive niood donned by the gals as they gathered at Earl Nelson's home for the annual Yule party last Thursday p.m. The committee had done a magnificent job of decorating and garlands of green and red crepe paper dripping with icicles were suspended from the ceiling. A small but bushy tree was appropriately trimmed and formed the centerpiece on the dessert table. Games were played by the women for lovely prizes, The most popular seemed to be a darling pink organdy apron and a handsome black and gold ashtray. These two items exchanged hands frequently during the course of the evening while "rebbor ognib" was going on! A luscious: array of tempting dishes including hot beef sandwiches, potato salads, molded salads, and trimmings helped to sate hungry appetites. For those not calarie conscious, there was; "broken glass" cake, cream cheese pastry, chocolate cake and home made Christmas cookies of a "thousand" varieties. Two kinds of "spiked" punch helped to loosen inhibitions! The success of the affair can be attributed to-the efforts of Marge Olsen, Petey Schmidt, Mario McKim and Elma Nelson. We learned that Chet "Helwig became a patient in Mc- Henry hospital some time Thursday but couldn't locate Gert to obtain any details. Meyer, the handsome young son that belongs to Helen and George Meyer of Spring Road, completed his initial basic military training at Lakeland AFB, Texas. He is being re-assigned to Sheppard AFB, Texas, for technical training as a U.S. Air Force finance and statistical data specialist. Fire and Rescue Squad Calls The men of station 2 answered a call recently near Pistakee Highlands. Fire damaged the interior of an unoccupied house. The McHenry firemen and equipment were also called. In the bitter cold of Friday morning the firemen were called to assist the McHenry squad in extinguishing a fire on a farm on Route 31 and Ringwood Road. 2,328 calls answered by the Johnsburg rescue squad is the up to date count. On Dec. 15, the men were called to the La Fontaine home when young Billy fell and broke his leg. This is the third time that leg has been hurt. He was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph's hospital, Elgin. The leg was once again put into a cqust and Billy returned home on Tuesday. i On Dec. 17, the rescue squad answered a call in Eastwood Manor where an elderly woman suffered respiratory trouble. She was treated on the scene. With the end of 1963 so close, the members of the Johnsburg rescue squad acknowledge the cooperation from the public during this past year. They have high hopes for even more in 1964. Of course, there isn't much more we can say of the squad that hasn't been said before. They deserve every bit of cooperation they get. Let's hope that count does not increase over this holiday season. Hospital Patients Mrs. Doris Freund is recuperating at her home after undergoing surgery at the McHenry hospital last week. Young Charlie Boak didn't get home as planneo last Wednesday. He had a slight set back and his doctor thought it best to keep him in Victory Memorial until the weekend. We all hope he is in good shape to enjoy what "good old Santa" will be bringing him. Home For The Holidays The Charlie Smith heme, as well as the Fred Karpenski home, the Joe Hiller home and the Walter Durrenberg home all plan on being a little happier this weekend. Their boys are all hoping to be home for the holidays. At this writing the only one I know of that is home, is Fred Durrenberg. He arrived home by bus from Fort Knox, Ky. Thursday evening. I hope all these ooys enjoyed Christmas and New Yean$ with their families. Hugh Nelson arrivda home Tuesday for a month's nirlough. He has spent the past sixteen months stationed in Naples, Italy. His father and Mrs. Christman are so very happy to have him here. Flying Around Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schmitt were scheduled to fly to Texa9 last Friday. They will spend several weeks visiting their son, Paul, and his family. Taking off for warmer places is Mrs. Anna Guyser. She was due to fly to California last Monday for a month's stay. About this time of the year, I think everyone is ready to find warmer spots--especially this past week. It's just downright cold! Birthday Corner Emitt Roberts is in line for congratulations on Dec. 29. "Happy Birthday" also to Mary Wakitsch.
