t'.j; Thu?*d«y * & 4064 Sunnyilde EsI&Im NEW REPORTER TELLS ACTIVITIES .AT CHRISTMAS Mr • - ^oan WatczynsBS 5IA5-S106 Fran Olsen -- 385-5740 v Christmas came in many *-*vays on various days for our neighbors. Chris and Don Fail attended a Christmas Eve service at Fox Lake Baptist church, which consisted of slides and a background of choir music. Chris was part of a trio selec- --•tion. Christmas day was spent at home with turkey and gifts. Carol and Bud Kennebeck had a different Christmas, to say the least. Daughter Karen blos somed with chicken^ pox on Christmas Eve and baby - Scotty took a tumble down the stairs. So Bud and Carol ate Christmas dinner alternately at Carol's mother's while the other stayed home with Karen. Here's to a less eventful Christmas in '64! ; Emma and Gunnar Johansen tell of the wonderful time they had in Arlington Heights at daughter Bertha Graczyk's home. Beginning Christmas Eve, they spent three days there. On Sunday they went to Skokie to visit their other daughter, Alice Sissman, and her family until the turn of the new year. Earl and Bernice Fry spent a leisurely Christmas day and had dinner out. But on Sunday they entertained a crowd of twenty-three for djnner which gave Bernice ample opportunity to give her Christmas present a good test run. What did Santa bring her? An electric dirh washer! Pheasant and wild rice by candlelight was the fare aO the Palmer residence on Christ-- mas Eve. Marge and Harold hosted Adeline and Hank Zeiger, A1 and Velma Stephens, and Clare and Howard Hoettel for this festive evening, climaxed by their attending m dnight church services. Ve and Roy Schroeder got the best Christmas gift possible for them: son Gary came heme on leave Dec. 22. On Dec. 28 he returned to his n? val base at Norfolk, Va. Daughter Jean and family were on hand Christmas day to make the day complete and idef.l. "Home for the Holidays" has a different meaning for everyone and for the Kanters it war literally as it states. Florence and Cecil found it a real treat to spend Christmas in their own home with their little (?) family this year instead of packing up and going, to Grandma's. The Kelsos' best Christmas^ gift arrived a bit early, on Dec. 18, in the form of one navy-type son named, John. But unlike most Christmas gifts, this one had to be returned by Dep. 27 to his base in Rhode Island. But Florence and Jack thoroughly enjoyed the busy time th»y all had during his leave. And John saved the day by stringing the lights on the lyeiso Christmas tree ... a job that "only John can do adequately," says impartial 'mother. ^The Jim O'Brien family hosted Rita's parents,. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Steinbrecher and aunt and uncle, Dora and Etfdie Firnstein, on Christmas day. The Walczynski family waited for their Christmas stork until 11:55 p.m. Christmas night, and are still waiting as this column goes to print! But to keep this nervous waiting period occupied, Joan and Stan exchanged gifts with Millie and George Kropf on Christmas Eve, had dinner at Loretta and Bob Michelsen's on Christmas day, and of course visited Joan's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Holtfodt, after* dinner. Stan's family catne out Sunday for belated festivities. Sir Stork had better shake a wing as Joan has run out of fill-intvpe activities and will "soon Resort to biting her nails or go out looking for Mr. Stork. Jim and Fran Fuqua spent Christinas day with Jim's parents in Lisle, where twenty family members shared the feast and fun. Dec. 27 was spent in Chicago (at daughter Debbie's godparents' home. The Legs^TTrfrfe family had their big day at Kathryn's parents' home in Chicago. Wee ones add something special to gfcft-opening time, and especially when the wee one is the first grandchild. Steve and Lorraine Major had just such a delight this year. And of course turkey and all thfe trimmings of the day of days.1 Tom and Delores Hanahan had their parents out for a complete ; family style Christmas. Family Reunion The Palmer home was the scene of a family reunion on Dec. 28. From Evanston came Marge's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Gionnini, Marge's brother and great-aunt, Joseph Gionnini and Mrs. Mary Rosinsky. From Wheeling came Marge's sister, Mrs. E. Eaton, Jr., and her family whose eldest son was home on leave from the navy. From Gurnee, Marge's sister, Mrs. H. Hoyle, and her family! From Chicago, cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sawatzki. and their children. From next door and across the street the Stephens and the Hoettels came to join the celebration. Surprise guests from Detroit were Bill and Bernadine. Grist who dropped in . with their nieces and nephews to wish their ex-neighbors a Cool Yule. It was one of the most meiTH orable . days of the Palmers' holiday season. The young people enjoyed the ice skating to their hearts content. The delight and warmth of the day was marred only by the absence of Harold's parents, the John Palmers of Evanston. Bears Boosters Dec. 29 found a good number of Sunnyside families hosting friends and relatives outside the Channel 4 area for the big football game. The Howard Hoettels welcomed their daughter, Mrs. George Ballard, and her family from Western Springs. No doubt the game was but an added feature .of this happy family gathering. / 21 at a dinner and reception given by their daughter, in CHicago^ May God bless you with many more happy and healthy years together. Warm Welcome *3 .William and Agnes Bettin are our newest residents in Sunnyside Estates. They just recently bought the Garber house on Oakleaf Drive. The Bet tins come from Cicero. They have six married children who have given them five grandchildren. Getting settled is suph a big project; .but during this period, as well as for the duration of your residence here, we're wishing you all the peaceful pleasures of country living. For Ice Addicts The skating pond on Indian Ridge is flooded and in good condition. An attempt had been made to flood an area on Mayfair, but results were not satisfactory. However, the men do plan to try again. The skate exchange is open for swapping. Need a> larger size for those sprouting feet? Here's the place , to get them. Contact this reporter or Harold Palmer who is again operating the exchange. 385-1680. - True Spirit Cheers; for 4he hale and hearty Girl Scouts and brave leader A lice Bieschnke who braved sub-zero weather to brighten Ihe- McIIenry shoppers' chore, by singing carols at s,tore fronts ort the Friday before^ Christmas. They did a lot to boost the spirit of Christmas and evidently they :ill thawed out successfully at the party afterwards. There seems to have been more outside lighting and decoration in the Estates thr.r ever before, and more than in any other nearby subdivision. It adds a lot to the season for both young and old. Smoke Signals If you see a local mother puffing on a pipe, don't call the head shrinker, she's oniy taking up her part of the family challenge to chuck the cigarette habit. Don't knock it til you try it! ing nicely from her tonsillectomy at McHenry hospital on Dec. 17. Although she had to catch extra ijcst, she was able to enjoy all the .Christmas" festivities. _ HovS'ie Siepman' recently had an eye .operation apd is recovering in better spirits. He entered into the whole thing with a cheerful smile, but came out 'questioning the necessity j>f the whole operation. Quote: "I don't think there was anything wrong with that eye to begin with." Gate 6 will remain the same, but the busses will then enter Gate 5 and proceed east on Parkview. Youngsters will board the bus at the intersection of Eastwood Drive and Parkview. Children will not be picked up on the blacktop. At Gate 2, the busses will also load at the intersection of Clover Hill Drive and Parkview. The above changes were made as 'a result of a discussion by members of the village board. Laurence Anderson made the suggestion and Mr. Levesque discussed the problems with M. L. Schoenholtz, assistant superintendent of schools. Village Board The president and trustees will meet Mpndfiy, Jan. 13, s in the beachhouse at 8 p.m. The public is invited. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (I) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For Ae take of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material rapport.
