They are planning a summer wedding. The McHenry County Historical Society, Inc., has received its incorporation papers and is now in business. The shelves of the society's room in the Woodstock city hall are beginning to fill up with items turned over to the society for"-the pleasure and benefit of posterity. Incorporating the organization assures that it will be perpetual and if, for any reason, local officers cannot govern. Ihe State Historical society will assure the collection will remain intact. In' addition to items mentioned earlier, such as the band uniform and bridal dress, there are now early photographs of V. S. Lumley and a crowd gathered in the City Park when he was campaigning for State's Attorney and of a "wake" held in the Opera House in 1909. when Judge Donnelly won election to the Circuit court. These were presented by Wm. H. ,-Tittle of Woodstock. A large 1S92 McHcnry county plat book, originally belonging to Wm. R. Walkup of Ridgefield. has been presented by John Y. Anderson of Woodstock. Maps and photographs of farms have been donated by George B. Huffman of Woodstock. A black silk sunshade, two-piece black silk dress with exaggerated leg-of mutton sleeves: a pair of white satin slippers: heavily lace trimmed cotton petticoats belonging to the Dr. Pourtain family of Harvard has been turned over' by Mrs. James McCauley of Harvard. George Whipple of Dunham township is turning over an ox yoke and sow ties that were brought from Massachusetts to McHenry county by his grandfather, Virgil Whipple, in 1844. The Norge Ski Club of Fox River Grove, first ski club in Amerit^; has presented their twenty-fifth (1931> silver anniversary and fiftieth (1956) golden arfhiversary programs. These were brought in by Eugene Peterson of Fox River Grove. The first volume of a two-volume history of McHenry county, 1922, was given by Carl Behrens of Harvard.* The board of directors has set Mejrch 1 as the deadline for the society. Numbered certificates were received with the incorporation papers and they are suitable for framing. Secretary Grace Hahn has filled in certificates for all charter members to date. These will'bte distributed by the directors, where possible, so they will not Class of 1949 Plans Reunion There will be a meeting of the qlass of 1949 of the McHenry high school on Thursdayb Jan. 23, at 8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. George Rodenkirch, 603 N. Green street. Plans will be discussed at that time for a reunion to be held next summer. DEMOCRATS PbAN OLD FASHIONED POLITICAL RALLY At a meeting held at the Marengo V.F.W. on Jan. 8, the Young Democrats of McHenry County announced that Gov. Otto Kerner has been invited to give the keynote address at a pre-primary rally to be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, at the American Legion hal) in Union. The public is invited to attend the rally. In addition to plenty of political oratory, free food and refreshments are to be served. Other important state officials who are invited to attend the meeting are Michael J. Howlett, auditor, and William G. Clark, attorney general. All local Democratic candidates for the State Senate and State House of Representatives and county offices also hav^,been invited to attend. COUNTY FARM-CITY BANQUET SET FOR LATE JANUARY Rural - urban relations be the central theme for this year's McHenry county farmcity banquet to )>e held Wednesday evening. Jan. 29. Fo& the first time in three years, Woodstock -will host this annual 'event sponsored by the Pomona Grange in cooperation with the local Chambers of Commerce, service and fraternal organizations of the county. The family style turkey dinner will be served promptly at 7:30 p.m. in the main dining hall of the St. John's Lutheran church in Woodstock. The purpose of the farm-, city banquet is to bring about a better understanding of the way of life of men by bringing neighbors "together. It provides an opportunity for fanners and ranchers to meet with city businessmen and workers in an atmosphere conducive to mutual understariding. Chairman of the farm-city banquet cohimittee, Bob Rich, announced that tickets for this event are available through the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce office. Wed 60 Years Bridal Couple MENTAL HEALTH TALK On Tuesday evening, Jan. 7, the Future Homemaker girls of the local high school enjoyed a speech on mental health, given by Mr. Sanker, a representative from the Elgin State hospital. His speech was. informal and impressive. Some of the girls are contemplating offering their services to aid the mentally ill at Elgin. Their retirement was only from farming, however, for they still remain active and in rap. frfcent years have operated a rooming house- in their largo residence. Mike, at 84, and his uMfe, at 80, are blessed with good health and enjoy their flower and vegetable garden, .which they are still able to care for. Their greatest pleasure, however, is derived through games of cards with their family and friends.
