Leonard writes the popular "On the Town" column for the Chicago Tribune but also finds time to serve as a drama critic. His work as a columnist and writer has helped him come in contact with many of the outstanding Hollywood and television personalities." Feature stories in the Sunday magazine section often carry his by-line and give an illuminating peek at these stars--from Marilyn Monroe to Elvis Presley. It will ix? held Feb. 14 at noon at ihe Legion home. This year, as in the past, the entire proceeds will go to the McHenry library. Attractive table prizes have been secured, and all members are urged to bring white elephants for special prizes. Tickets will be available at the door for this dessert luncheon and afternoon of cards. The public is urged to attend and take this opportunity to help the library fund. League, great-greatgrandfather, and Helen Cope, grandmother, holding Joy Cope. The baby is the daughter of the former Mary Lou Miller. J. F. League is now 89.and retired superintendent of a brewery. He resides in Belleville, 111., where he remains active, drives his own. car and keeps house for himself. On occasion he dons an' apron and proves his culinary talent by making home-made bread. His son, E. D. League, lives in LaGrange Park and is affiliated with a large firm as an executive. He plans to retire in May. ^§v . Mrs. Cope, her son and granddaughter make their home on W. Lake Shore Drive, Wonder Lake. Marian Club Plans Banquet "A, Date With Dad" is the happy prospect for girls who attend Marian Central Catholic high school, an evening out sponsored this Sunday evening by the Marian Fathers' club. The annual father-daughter banquet is one of the many events presented .each year by . the active group of parents who support the school's activities with botb money and hours of volunteer service. The banquet begins at 6:30 r pin. in the school cafeteria. Prior of Wmiconda, son of Mrs. Mary E.-CsJ-Esuckley of Island Lake. Lynn, a graduate of Northwestern university, is now teaching at the Wauconda grade school. Mr. Prior is a graduate of DePauw university and a member of a Wauconda insurance agency. A June 20 wedding is planned. McHenry Hospital Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Hamil are parents of a son bom Jan. 13. A daughter was bom Jan. 13 to Mr. and Mrs. James Kruse of Crystal Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Nett announce the birth of a son Jan. 14. A daughter was born Jan. 17 to Mr. and Mrs. Bernard iSchmitt. The little miss, who weighed 7 lbs., 6 ozs., has two brothers, Glenn, 2Vz, and John, 1, for playmates. The paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Moehling of Spring Grove and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard A. Freund are the maternal ones. Mrs. Moehling is the former Kathleen Freund. \ Memorial Hospital Woodstock On Jan. 15 a son was born to Mr. amFMrs. James Abner. Harvard Hospital Mrs. Cyril Bolster of Wonder Lake was a patient in Harvard hospital during the past week. ROSS Pink-Blue Shower For Mrs. James Rader A pink-and-blue shower was given last Friday for Mrs. James Radjer of Deep Springs ^ I road. Wonder Lake, by her aijnt, Mrs. Harold P. Owen, of Country Club drive, McHenry. Twelve guests were present to enjoy an evening of games, followed by refreshments | served amid attractive cradle, stork and rattle decorations. Gifts received by Mrs. Rader were assurance that the forthcoming baby, her second child, will be well equipped to meet the demands of most any social function. SHERLYN Robert Vaupell To Marry Chicago Girl Announcement has been made by Mr. and Mrs. Allan W. Ross of Chicago of the engagement of their daughter, Sherlyn, ' to Robert Vaupell, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Vaupell of McHenry. He is employed as a bookkeeper at a Ringwood firm and Miss Steadman works as an inspector for a Grayslake plant. Miss Schiller Engaged To Wed Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Schiller announce the engagement of their daughter, Donna Rae, to Tim Casey of Ottawa. No date has been set for the wedding. JUDITH THOMAS Spring Grove Girl Engaged To Marry Mr. and Mrs. Lyle C. Thomas of Spring Grove announce the (ngagement of their daughter, Judith Mary, to Richard Riedel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Riedel of Fox Lake. Miss Thomas is a 1961 graduate of Richmond-Burton high school. Her fiance graduated in 1961 from Grant Community high school, Fox Lake. A November wedding is planned. JOHN KIGGINS IN "MACBETH" COLLEGE CAST John Kiggins, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Kiggins, 2618 Drucker Lane, McHenry, has been named to membership in the cast of "Macbeth," the second major theatre production of the school year at Lawrence college, Appleton, Wis. Under the „ direction of F. Theodore Cloak, the play will be presented at the college Music-Drama Center Feb. 25 to 29. The presentation of one of Shakespeare's great tragedies is Lawrence's commemoration of the four hundredth anniversary of the playwright's birth. The 18-year-old Marengo high school senior, now reigning as Miss McHenry County, will be sponsored at the Miss Illinois County Fair competition by the McHenry County Fair association. The winner of that statewide contest will be the official hostess at the 1964 Illinois State Fair. Shirley will be competing against county fair queens from about gifcty other county fairs in Illinois. This contest stresses beauty of face and figure, aft^ Miss Sill is well suited to\vie in competition with heavy emphasis on these attributes. Miss McHenry County's entry last year -- Gail Marquaft of McHenry -- proved a standout and ranked as a finalist in the field of 50. Shirley will attend a reception Saturday afternoon, then receive preliminary instructions for the contest. Candidates will be judged both in formals and swim suits, in a program similar to the one held at the McHenry County Fair last year. Don Hansen, newly-elected Fair association president, explained that the county rules were patterned after the state contest to give local girls experience in what to expect at the state Armory when they represent McHenry county. The winner will receive a trophy, crown and $200 in cash, besides the honor of reigning over the Illinois State Fair. Miss Patricia Hogan of Ringwood was chairman of last year's Miss McHenry County contest. Runner-up to Miss Sill were Leslie Gieseke, Crystal Lake, and Cheryl Noe, Harvard. Rounding out the top five were Kris Nowaskey, Woodstock, and Donna Gamnes, Fox River Grove. INQUIRY CLASSES Beginning Thursday evening, Jan. 30 at 8 o'clock, inquiry classes will be offered by St. Peter's church, Spring Grove, to anyone interested in learning the opportunity of becoming better acquainted with the teachings of the Catholic religion. A full coverage of the Lord's teachings will be offered and a discussion period will follow each evening's lecture. Classes will be held in the school every Thursday until the course has been completed.
