Fdtriw 13.19M THE McHENRY PLAHDEALER Wonder Lak* ELECT OFFICERS \ AT CHAMBER OF \ COMMERCE MEETING Mary Lou Hartog At the regular monthly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce held last Thursday new officers were elected. The meeting was delayed for a week until a suitable place could be fojind to hold the meeting. New officers elected were Frank Higgins, president, James Chadburn, vice-president, Tom Mathews, secretary, Dr. S. L. Ruggero, treasurer. Three persons were elected to fill three vacancies on the Board of Directors - Robert Asmus, Lois Awe and Mary Lou Hartog. A motion was made and carried that there would only be four meetings a year instead of monthly meetings. Also, the >new president plans to appoint permanent committees to take charge of the various projects of the Chamber such as the decorating Contest, and other activities which the Chamber conducts. In this way thewcomnriittees will have the full year to work on their various projects. The time and place of the next meeting will be announced it a later date. Joyce Motulewicz and Jack Yegge Married Joyce Motulewicz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Motulewicz of 7614 Center Drive, and Jack Yegge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bart Yegge of 3810 W. Main Street McHenry, were married at Christ the King church last Saturday at 12 o'clock Mass. Father Vanderpool officiated at the service. Joan Marke served as maid of honor for the bride and Robert Vaupell served the groom as best man. A reception for family and close friends was held at the McHenry Country Club in the afternoon. Joan and Howard Dermont of 7909 Chestnut Drive became the very proud parents on Feb. 2, of Scott Vincent Dermont who tiE>p<S$ the scale at a husky 6 lbs.- oz. This is the first child {or Joan and Howard. Maternal grandparents are Estelle and JIarvey Biggers of Hancock prive. Klwanis Meeting Guests were Frank Gregory, Cy Young, Ed Guettler and Bill jCollatz of the McHenry Kiwanis Club. Our speaker was past president George Pederson, who spoke on Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. This school is build on 160 acres just outside of Carbondale. This is the first State school to go on the four quarter system (utilizing the facilities for most of the year). A business meeting was held after the program. Past president's night was discussed further. We have had sixteen presidents of the club. April 11 was suggested for this night. Feb. 17 will be the Brotherhood Program. Christ the King News Lenten * Devotions at Christ the King church will be on Wednesdays at 7;30 p.m. with Stations of the Ctoss, Sermon, and Benediction. Next Sunday is Scout Sunday. All Catholic Scouts should receive Communion next Sunday - in uniform - at the 9 a.m. Mass. On March 1 - there will be the Altar and Rosary Sodality Day of Recollection.. All ladies are invited. Nativity Lutheran Church News At 8 p.m. Thursday Feb. 13 there will be a church council meeting in the social hall. On Friday at 9:30 a.m. there will be a "World Day of Prayer" Service at Community Methodist church, 3717 W. Main Street, McHenry. Nursery services will be provided. There will also be a coffee hour afterward. On Saturday at 7 p.m. the Nativity Mates will have a valentine dinner in Richmond. On Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., leaders of the Kachina Girl Scout Neighborhood will meet in the social hall. Lenten Vespers will be at 7:45 p.m. On Thursday at 8 p.m. there will be a special meeting of the church council with representatives of the Lutheran School of Theology Development Fund. Sick List The following Wonder Lakers were hospitalized last week and we hope that by now all of them are well on the road to recovery: Rev. Richard Wright, Jacqueline Crook, Eleanor Willig, Ruth Woodward, Eldon Diedrich and Anna Buetow. TOPS to Meet Mondays During Lent The Wonder Lake Chapter of TOPS has changed its meeting night to Monday at 7:45 for the six weeks of Lent so as not to conflict with the Wednesday night church services held in the various churches. If you are female and over 20 years old and need to lefee at least 20 lbs. .or more we would like to have you in our TOPS group. All our members are losing so why shouldn't you. We still have openings for ten more members tr fill our quota. You'll look a lot nicer 'n your Easter finery without that extra bulge. Just call me any evening at 653-7176. You'll bless the day you decided to make the call. Attends Gift Show Mary Lou Hartog and Ruth and Sally Russell attended the Midwest Gift Show in Chicago on Sunday. Six of the 7 original Wonders of the World were man-made, and none were natural formations. Only one was really useful--the lighthouse at Alexandria, Egypt. Johnsbsrg FORESTERS HOLD ANNUAL BOWLING , DINNER SATURDAY Betty Hettermann The annual men Foster bowling party was brought to a close last Saturday evening in the community clufr hall. Over two hundred members and their guests gathered in the hall to enjoy the evenings festivities All in attendance were in agreement that the roast beef dinner served was the most delicious ever. As usual the "good cooks of Johnsburg" came through with flying colors. Members of the following courts were given tokensr^f award for their superior bowling. Toppling pins to the score of 3162 was the team captained by Leon Schmitt. His helpers were: Ed Condon, Ron Bergs ma, Bob Popelka, and John Popelka. The twosome of Roger jSnd Maurice Stilling won the doutiles event with 1231 pins?vJoe Huemann was the singles champion with a score of 677. Allevents scratch was won by Dick Hiller with 1,759 and Jim Huemann won all-events -- handicap with a 1,936 total. High game honor went to Bob Brennan for his 247 game and Mike Schaefer hit 620 for high three game series. As in the past, everyone enjoyed themselves to the fullest and will be waiting for this time to roll around next year. Florida Fun Clarence and Lucille Smith recently returned from a four weeks vacation in Florida. While there they visited relatives and friends in West Palm Beach, Del Ray Beach, Pompano Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, W. Hollywood, Venice and St. Petersburg. Also Key West, Cypress Gardens, Busch Gardens, Weekie Wachee and many other points of interest. Clarence did some fishing in the Gulf and caught a few. They drove 4,600 miles without any trouble until about 30 miles from Chicago on the return trip -- you guessed it -- a flat tire! Lady Foresters to Meet Next Tuesday evening, Feb. 18, when the lady Foresters meet in the community club hall, Kay Bauer will serve as chairman. There" will be no other committee for this meeting, The third round of the current card tournament will be played at the close of the regular business. Members with new ideas for activities^ for the remaining meetings for this year are asked to contact the officers. Any suggestions will be greatly received. Henn will be happy to know he is now recuperating at home after spending several weeks in the Woodstock hospital. Fire and Rescue Squad palls The men of station 2 have Congratulations Corner Barbara Michels was pleasantly surprised with a pajama party in her home last Friday evening honoring her fourteenth birthday. Accepting the Michels hospitality for the night were Diane Hiller, Susie Oeffling, Susie Conway, Carol Dehn, Betty Himplemann, Betty Sompel, Nancy Schaefer Coleen Joyce, Mary Jo Haag, Annette Kurowski, Diane Jenkins, Judy Stroigl and Mary Ellen Freund. Refreshments were served and Barbara was the recipient of many nice gifts. I would like to correct the dates that appeared in last week's column in regards to Kathy Hettermann and Diane Stilling's birthdays. Kathy was 18 on Feb. 6 and Diane will be 18 on the 21st. The Oeffling home on Dolores Drive is just loaded with reasons for celebrations in this month of February. Little Pamela was one on Feb. 10, David turned 10 on Feb. 13, Sarah has her natal day on Feb. 22 while on Feb. 25 along comes George's birthday. Last Saturday a party combining Pamela and David's birthday was held. Mr. and Mrs. George Oeffling, Sr., and the Jim Oeffling family were in attendance.. Sport Notes St. John's girls volleyball team beat St. Mary's team three times in the local gym last Friday evening. Our town basketball continued to roll along in their winning streak. Last Thursday they beat Cary in a close game of j 75 to 74. On Sunday they trimmed the Woodstock Majors by a score of 144 to 63. Sunday. Feb. 16, our team will travel to Marengo, game time is 2:30. Lenten Devotions There will be devotions on Wednesdays and Friday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in St. John's Church all during Lent. Parishioners will be most interested to know Father Everett Hiller will be the guest speaker each Wednesday evening. The regular morning Masses during the week will be at 6:30 and 8 a.m. Miss Michels Becomes Mrs. Beutel Kathy Michels, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Michels, became the bride of Bill Beutel la^t Saturday morning in a 10 a.m. service performed in St. John's church. About thirty relatives and friends joined the happy newlyweds for dinner in Fox Lake later in the day. The new Mr. and Mrs. Beutel will reside in an apartment on Johnsburg road which they recently furnished. Our very best wishes for a happy life together are extended to pretty Kathy and handsome, Bill. Thoren at St. John the Baptist church in Johnsburg, followed by a reception at the Fox Lake Legion hall. Johnsbiurg Basketball The Johnsburg grade school was host on Tuesday to the Oakland grade school basketball team. The Johnsburg junior SOMETHING SPECIAL McHenry County residents purchased a total of $1,519,353 in series E and H United States savings bonds last year, according to Donald J. Still, Woodstock, general county chairman of the savings bonds committee. This represents 103.5 percent of the annual quota. The state c f Illinois achieved its quota with 108.3 percent, according to Arnold J. Rauen of McHenry, state director of the Treasury's savings bonds division. Total sales in the state were $369,771,889 against a quota of $341,200,000. Illinois sales were 12.6 percent above the 1962 total and represented 7.7 percent of national sales for the year. The national total was $4,760,000^000, topping 1962 by 11 penfent, with series E and H bonds outstanding above the $47 billion mark at the close of the year for an all-time high. It seems to be a woman's ambition to get married as soon as possible, while most prefers to stay single as Iprtg as possible. varsity lost 7 to 14 while the! varsity came out on top of a 30 to 14 score. The Richmond invitational tournament that Johnsburg was to participate in this past week was postponed till this week and Johnsburg joined area schools in the American Legion basketball tournament at St. Mary's gym in McHenry. The sports section of this paper has the results. Terrace Tidings . Visiting in the Jim Deppmeier home on Sunday were the Douglas Jacobsons of Chicago and the Jacobson grandsons visiting from Oregon. Dining at the Don Zamastil home on Sunday in celebration of Barb's birthday were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Zimmerman, of Addison. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Pradelski, Chicago, spent Saturday at the Terrace home of his brother, Ewald Pradelski, and family. The Bob Dicks joined in the birthday celebration on Saturday for four-year-old Frankie Dicks at the home of Frankie's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Dicks, Chicago. The Russell Parker family spent Sunday at the Glenview home of Eraine and Ray Johnson. The Len Toepper family spent Sunday afternoon and evening with the Marvin Toeppers of Antioch.
