Mrs. Freund presided at a dinner meeting of the association on Wednesday EVA FREUND night, Feb. 5, held at the VFW clubhouse in McHenry. Thirty-four postmasters arid their guests attended. There was much discussion on the delayed mail situation through Christmas. A letter from . Donald Swanson, Chicago regional director, was read. He gave assurance that constant changes are being put into operation to improve this system and a noticeable improvement has occurred during the month of January. Official Representative Postal Inspector Elmer E. Black of Rockford conducted a question and answer period. He also talked on the new ruling, effective Feb. 1, that the hour designation will be eliminated from postmarks. Only a.m. and p.m. will be shown. However mailers may request the time of mailing to be shown on certified and registered mailing receipts. There was an announcement that a Postmaster's Institute will be held in Springfield March 8, 9 and 10. All were urged to attend and many of WOMEN UNITE IN WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FEB. 14 On Feb. 14, as children exchange valentines in token of sincere friendship, women of the McHenry area will unite with hundreds of thousands throughout the world in prayerful kinship in observance of the seventy-eighth World Day of Prayer. All persons interested in joining this world-wide prayer fellowship are invited to assemble with Icteal Council of United Church Women at Community Methodist church, fellowship hall, at 9:30 a.m. Nursery services for children will be provided, and there will be a coffee hour following. The theme for the 1964 service is "Let Us Pray" and the service was prepared by Dr. Madeleine Barot, executive secretary of the Department of the Cooperation of Men and ^omen in Church, Family and Society of the World, Council of Churches, Geneva, Switzerland. In using passages from the Old and the New Testaments, Dr. Barot will unite the countless number of Christian people who participate in the service in a new experience in prayer as "a struggle -- an act of faith and repentance -- and a commitment to serve." In continuation of past efforts in the mission of the church, the gifts collected as an essential part of the observance will go toward sustaining twelve Christian colleges for women in Asia and Africa. The gifts will make possible the translation, printing and distribution of Christian literature to women and children in many parts of the world. They will lend assistance to the present program among Indian-Americans and the support of the migrant ministry, providing day care centers, recreational centers, and programs of assistance toward responsible citizenship. They will be used to extend hospitality to the more than 60,000 students coming to this country from all over the world, giving them the opportunity to know .. America through home life, as a part of an American family. This year in an effort to broaden the program among college and university students, a special gift will be used overseas to help strengthen Christian work there. A special gift will also be used in the United States, making possible the continuation of the new program of ministry among newcomers in communities. The blessings, spiritual and physical, brought through the unity of prayerful hearts, have been evident since the first small group of Christian women met seventy-eight years ago, offering their prayers and gifts for missions. The faith and love of God expressed then has reached out to the present time when groups in 150 areas on six continents will be gathering throughout twentyfour hours, bound together in prayer. 4-H THEME "4-H Under the Big Top" is the theme of the 1964 district local 4-H leaders' meeting set for March 4 at the Faust Hotel in Rockford.
