Blue and Gold Dinner On Boy Sccut Sunday, Feb. 9, Pack 452 held its annual sonand- parents dinner in Fox Lake at 2 p.m. Lions comprised the color guard for the flag ceremony which opened the program. The invocation was given by the Rev. Doenecke, sponsor of the pack. The program consisted of the presentation of the charter by Mr. Phelps, the district committeeman, group singing, awards presentation, presentation of token gifts to den' mothers and helpers, and a closing prayer by Father Weideman. The teepee centerpieces, fleur-de-lies place c&rds, and cub, scarf place cards were all hand crafted. And instant hand craft was the challenge to all the guests who were given a small bundle of materials with which to create an original object while the dinners were being distributed. Dale Maule and Bernie Kennebeck agreed they'd rather give a half hour speech than attempt to judge these object d'arts, but they finally awarded the little loving cup to Ray Thelen, Jr. (They'll hit you for that half hour speech next year, men!) The Maules, Walczynskis, Gersteins and Lakowskes were among the 101 guests in attendance for this big event in the lives of their sons. Buttons-a-Poppin' School reports are out and are met with varying emotions by a cross-cut of students and parents. But there are some especially proud people about. The McDonalds were notified by McHenry high school that sophomore son, Paul, is again on the B plus honor roll, as he has. been every semester. At St. John's Judy Walczynski" has made A honors for two consecutive months,--a unique distinction. Stan and Mary Walczynski made B honors. Congratulations to you all. Ke6p up the excellent work. Wet Party? No, not at all. The temperature took a nose dive and so did! a few skaters. But still and all, the skaters did get to skate, frozen but dry. The Bieschkes, Olsens, Palmers, Stevenses and Norma Gunn were the hardy party on Adults Only Night Feb. 8. So where were the rest of you overgrown ice 'addicts? Fall through a soft spot somewhere? Parents, please warm your children not to get too rambunctious in and around the shelter, toy the safety of all concerned. Victory Party' The St. John's girls' .volley ball team (7th and 8th graders) won three out of three games from St. Mary's on Feb. 7 at Johnsburg school. Since this was St. John's first competition as a team, it was also quite a moral victory. So the surprise birthday pajama party at Barbara Michel's took on an additional cause for celebration. Judy Walczynski and the thirteen other girls who attended had a grand time dancing, eating, talking, eating, sleeping (but slim little), and eating. House Guests Norma Gunn was hostess for three days to a member of her staff at Lutheran General hospital in Park Ridge. Maria Dorneo, a Philippine exchange visitor nurse, wanted to ice skate and frolic in the snow during her visit to the country. Two friends and her sisterin- law and their children dropped in with a huge pan of brownies and a candle. After they had gone, neighbor Carol Kennebeck brought her a lovely birthday cake. After all that cake and coffee there was yet another cake at dinner time and several gifts, of course, and lots of pretty cards which all made her birthday just wonderful. Gayle Gam's guests for her eighth birthday party were Kathy Farley, Melody and Merily Fail, Donna Krispen, and Kathy Hadley, on Feb. 8. The memory game was surpassed only by Mother's on-the-floor demonstration of championship Jacks. The Garn menagerie was enlarged that day: lady bugs,'a turtle, and Siamese cats! Mortimer the turtle is actually the only bonafide addition since the lady bugs seem to have gotten mixed up with some metal at the manufacturer's and the cfajts are in the form of a paint-bynumber board. Cake and ice cream completed the memorable day at the Garn home. Marty Palmer's paternal grandparents and Aunt Lenore paid him a surprise visit the day before his birthday. So father rustled up a marvelous impromptu meal and the Stevenses joined them all for the celebration. Then on Wednesday Velma Stevens presented him with one of her luscious whip cream cakes and the children were allowed a snowball free-for-all to celebrate. That's like fireworks on the 4th. ed the St. John's vs. Johnsburg basketball game on his birthday, with the Mikkelsens ctnd their boys. They drowned the sorrow of the defeat in singing happy birthday and having cake and ice cream at the family gathering after the game. Anniversary Activities Alice and Ray Bieschke were joined by Sylvia and Bud Von- Obstfelder to celebrate their seventh anniversary. At the restaurant they were presented with a large box of gifts, some silly, some serious, for Bud and Sylvia. For Alice: matches to spark Ray, light bulb so she may never have darkness, oriental blossom incense, so she may bloom forever, and the little shaver she wants (a razor).
