Richard P. Reining, interior communications technician fireman, lTSN, son of Mr. and Mrs. William G. Reining of 1907 North Rogers ave., McHenry, is serving aboard the destroyer tender USS Everglades, operating out of Charleston, S.C. Everglades departed Feb. 8 for a tour of duty with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterraneen area. The Sixth Fleet is a versatile, well-balanced force consisting of an attack carrier striking force, an amphibious task group and a variety of auxiliary ships which enable the fleet to operate for extended periods of time without the support of land bases. THOMAS JUSTEN Thomas Justen, who entered the Army in Noverbet,' has completed his basic training at Fort Knox, Ky., and is now in the ifrst student enlistment company at Fort Eustis, Va., studying aircraft maintenance. IJackjack is an exercise to test the amphibious capabilities and readiness of the forces of the Seventh-Fleet and the Nationalist Chinese Nevy. The exercise, with over 40,000 men and 1'10 units participating, will culminate in an amphibious assault on beaches of southern Taiwan, and will demonstrate the effectiveness of the United States Seventh Fleet to rapidly move a significant combat force to a troubled area in order to assist an ally. The meeting was at the court house in Belvidere. Bolger paid tribute to the late President . Kennedy and mentioned "just a few of the monuments to his memory."
