The two struggled through the depression years, but were happy to raise their four children in the wide open spaces. When Steve died in 1954, Merc continued to work and also maintained a cozy home for her youngsters, who include Steve, Glenn, Mrs. Joyce Flinn, and Mrs. Pat Scheippers. All four married and made their homes else,- where, but Mercedes continued to live on West Maple Hill Drive. After the first of the year, she' underwent surgery and was discharged to her daughter Pat's care about two w^eks ago, where she died Surtday morning in Round Lake. A funeral Mass was recited at St. Mary's church yesterday with interment in the church cemetery. She first saw the light of day at McHenry hospital and tipped, the scales at a nice round 7 Lbs., 12% oz. Plenty of baby sitters for this young lady with Edna Marie, 16, Mildred Grace, 12 and Jody Lynn, 8, anxious to satisfy every demand.
