Auxiliary Unit 703 Lake Region News March 22, Dorothy Orlowski, the child welfare chairman of the unit, and her hubby, Ridhie, post commander, and Jack and Connie Zanin drove to Normal to make their annual Easter visit to the cottage assigned to the Unit. The Normal orphanage has been their pet project for a number of years and the Harbord cottage is always happy to see them arrive, they went loaded with Easter candies, books, cake mixes and other goodies. This year they planted a big silver maple tree in front of Harbord cottage. Each unit of the Posts has one child in every cottage they send a birthday gift, Christmas gift, Easter cards and valentine cards, the boy from our Unit is Paul Harbaugh and Paul was most happy to see the group. The women from the Unit 703 that worked' at Downey last week were: Anna May Campbell, Mae Jenssen, Dee Palmer, Kay Seilisch and Jean Tomsa. The gals are getting so they look forward to the nine to three sessions every Monday. Mount Hope Church Notes The spaghetti dinner was a huge success. They had to go! out and buy more spaghetti to serve everyone. The women of the Women's Society Of Christian Service appreciate the support given the dinner and the work done by the women to make it a success. March 23 the Fourth Quarterly Conference of Mount Hope Methodist church was held at 8 p.m. and was conducted by the district superintendent, Doctor Charles Jarvis. This was a very important business meeting, since reporters from all the organizations of the church and from the pastor was given. It reviewed the past, and also looked forward to the future of the Church, kll members of the church were invited to attend and the turn out was large. YOUR WILLIAM J. Tuesday I enjoyed a luncheon with Lil Orlowski for her birthday, tLil received many beautiful gifts and cards, including a dozen of roses from her ever lovin' spouse Leo. I baked her a birthday cake and she was 70 years young March 24. March 25 I had1 a birthday lunch with my buddy, Haze Moreley, Haze received many cards and gifts. April 1, Judy Krumwiede of Park Ridge and her four children spent the day with me, Judy and I enjoyed hashng over all the grand times we had when she lived here. Charlie and Rose Schifferdecker spent Easter Sunday with Charlie's brother, Fabian, and family in Elmhurst. Their kiddies, Tony and Pat, enjoyed playing with their cousin all day. Ellie Wroblewski feels her recent birthday was well celebrated this year. !Her pal, Kay Reilly, had a surprise luncheon for her with several of their neighbors, and Ellie's aunt and uncle from Chicago came out to help her celebrate in addition to the family celebration. Every one was most happy tq see Lorraine Erdman home from the Hospital after her surgery. Women from the Highlands who attended the Blessed Virgin Sodality Mass and Communion Sunday on Palm Sunday were: Dorothy Jenkins, Jean Tomsa, Rose Schifferdecker, Ellie Wroblewski, Bev. Lewandowski, Rosemary Thelen, Marilyn VanZevern and Kay Sielisch. Arthur and Clara Ernst have been spending much of their time in Chicago visiting with their daughter Clare who is a patient in St. Luke's hospital, where she underwent surgery. Clare is doing fine and we hope to see her in the Highlands when she gets out of the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Johnson of Magnolia, 111., were Easter Sunday guests of Carl and Blanche Haefliger, Mrs. Johnson is Blanche's sister and they enjoyed b^ing with each other for the weekend. Wally and Audree Misavice and their children spent Easter Sunday with Audree's parents in Chicago, where they enjoyed a delicious dinner. The Lewandowski household is being beseiged wth the German measles, which seem to be rapidly making the rounds in the Highlands. March 14, one of the largest bridal showers ever held in the Highlands was given for Shirley Spankuch by her grandmother Emma Rosengart at the Spankuch home. Shirley will become the bride of Mr. Axell, April 11. The young couple have gone through high school together and we are sure they are in for many years of complete happinness together. March 21 the A. O. Jensen home was one of utter chaos when a guest, Vern Holmes of Chicago, went out to start his brand new car for the trek back to Chicago and the car caught fire, Two men from next 'door who ape Volunteer firemen came running with fire extinguishers and they had the fire out before the fire truck arrived. \ Bob Kosick and his wife, Evelyn, took a short trip down to Pressmers Home, Tennessee, through the Clirch Mountains. iBob paid a visit tQ his former teachers where he had gone two years ago for a refresher course in offset printing. They had a fine trip, with the excep- 1 ion of the flooded area in Columbus, Ky., where the Ohio River was on a rampage. They .had to detour 100 miles to Lou- , isville, Ky., before they were able to cross the Ohio River. They were very happy to be back home safe and Bound where everything was dry. March 24, Jack and Ruth Rathnow of Ingleside stopped over to spend the evening in celebration of Lil Orlowski's birthday. They enjoyed caike, coffee and ice cream. Dorothy and Richie Orlowski completed the gathering both wishing their mother many more years •with them. March 22, Martin and Hazel Tloclge had a houseful of company drop in on them unexpectedly from DeKalb. Ron and Pat Jackson and their kiddies spent Easter Sunday with Ron's parents in Wauconda, where they enjoyed a big dinner and all the fun of a Easter gathering for the children. The Morin family has been bustling with many activities and busy entertaining guests, Palm Sunday Audrey's sister, Jackie, and her hubby, Larry Piotrowsk, and their baby daughter, Lyla Jean, and Audrey's dad, Mr. Anderson, all of Chicago, had Sunday dinner with Audrey and Don. Easter morning they went to Chicago and stopped in at Audrey's Dad's home, where the children enjoyed an Easter egg hunt. From there they- went to Don's folks for a big dinner and another Easter egg hunt. April 5, Don and Audrey enjoyed a big dinner party at the home of Don's cousin, Don and Lois Peterson, in Chicago. Congratulations to Marilyn VanZevern who received the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine teacher's certificate along with sixteen members of four parishes at St. Mary's in Mc- Henry. Marilyn, a teacher at St. John's school, had completed the5 18 weeks course. Plstakee Highlands Women's Clubs In spite of the horrible weather there was quite a large turn out for the regular monthly meeting, March 25. The three women who were to have the program had to cancel out because of the weather. Blanche Haefliger gave her report on ^Indian Affairs and is investigating the Indian center in Waukegan for her club. The club received a thank you note from the County Federation for their $50 donation for the Scholarship fund. All plans are completed for the big luncheon and card party to be held today, April 2, in addition to the delicious food, and cards, there will be a bake sale. The members also voted to change the place for their an: nuaj banquet in April. For the benefit"'of all the members who were not in attendance at the March meeting the banquet will be l^eld at the Waltonian hotel in Fox Lake. Please get your reservaton in as soon as possible. The nominating committee presented the slate of officers for the April election.
