Eleventh District Director Lillian Johnson was a guest at the Council meeting. Mrs, Johnson praised the unts for their outstanding work n selling, veterans' craft and asked for thirty-nine more members to make McHenry county 100 per cent in membership. Robert Willbrandt, county commander, spoke explaining the auxilary's cigarette program in the veteran hospitals. The government has banned the "distribution of any form of tobacco to veterans' hospitals. Appreciation was expressed to the units who contributed entertainment to the recent party at Elgin. There will be another game party held at Elgin hospital on April 15. Anyone who will donate homemade cookies for this party, please call Reba Owens, 385-0500. The McHenry County Past Presidents Parley will hold a dinner meeting in Richmond on April 16. McHenry Unit 491 past presidents who cannot attend the meetng at Dorothy Diedrich's April 9 are asked to please let chairman, Dorothy Weichmann, know if they will attend the dinner on April 16. SCIENCE FAIR IS FEATURE OF PTA PROGRAM The annual Science Fair by students of Harrison school is the program feature of the next PTA meeting which also will include election of officers. The meeting is Tuesday, April 14, at 8 p.m. The Science Fair, under the direction of George Guetzloff, junior high teacher, has grown in scope and magnitude in recent years to become one of the highlights of the school year. The exhibits and demonstrations are a source of amazement to parents who marvel at the grasp of things scientific shown by the elementary school students, mainy times far advanced of the understanding the adults had of science when they were in grade school. Adults who have not had an occasion to see the work of today's students would find a visit to the fair well worthwhile, to realize how accelerated modern education has become. The public is invited. Candidates for PTA office in 1964-65 are Mrs. Maxine G. Bixby, president; Mrs. Nancy Fallow, vice-president; Mrs. Gloria Freund, incumbent treasurer, and Mrs. Jean Decker, secretary. Nominations also will be open from the floor. The next county council meeting will take place May 1 at Wonder Lake. Miss Eileen Homo acted as registrar for the McHenry County Juniors. McHenry Unit 491 won first place in the doll dressing contest with the doll entered by Janet Homo. The doll was dressed as an inhabitant of Ecuador and will be entered in the department contest. In the Americanism scrapbook contest, McHenry Junior, Judy Homo, received third place in the district. The scrapbook was titled, "Our National Symbols." Our tray favor display won a second place award. This was composed of the various tray favors distributed to the veterans are Downey hospital this past year. The state cortventon will take place at Lincoln, 111., on May 16. HISTORICAL GROUPj RECEIVES ALBUM OF TODD SCHOOL A two-record album from the days of Todd school, recorded in 1948, together with printed words of the songs and a brochure sent to parents of prospective students has been donated by Ernest L. Foote, 316 Hoy street, Woodstock, to the McHenry County Historical society. Both booklets were printed by the students of Todd school, Woodstock. The society has pledged itself to cooperate with the Fine Arts association in the preservation of the Opera House. In presenting many fine and diversified programs for both young and adults they are drawing audiences to the Opera House and making it, once again, the center it was years ago in the county for the finest in entertainment. Memberships in the historical society are being accepted and dues will be credited until May 1, 1965. There are individual $1 and individual $5 memberships. Organizations may join for $5 and business firms for fifteen dollars. Sustaining memberships are available at $25 each. All memberships are on an annual basis except Life, which is $100 in one payment. LLOYD SMITH APPOINTED TO FUTURES COUNCIL Lloyd Smith, McHenry, has been appointed to the student division of the Futures Council at Whitewater State College. The Council was formed to assist the college in planning for greater service and leadership for students and the community. Smith is one of seventeen students appointed to plan an annual student fund campaign to support programs which cannot be financed through tax funds. Suggested goals include more scholarship and loan funds, foreign study and student exchanges, and research assistantships for outstanding students. He will also participate in the May 14 planning conference pf the Whitewater Foundation. A freshman at Whitewater State college, Lloyd is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo F. Smith, 1803 W. SHOP IN MeHENRY BOUNTY 40-8 CAPS NURSE AT CHICAGO HOSPITAL McHenry County 40 et 8 capped their twenty-sixth nurse in training at the Illinois Masonic hospital in Chicago on Tuesday March 24. Those attending were Chef DeGare Ray Siscoe, Nurse Chairman Lester Siedschlag, Correspondent George Mrachek and Commissaire Intandant Charles Frisch. McHenry County 40 et 8 has given scholarships to girls of McHenry county since the start of their nurses' training program ten years ago. To date they have to their credit twenty- four nurses graduated and still three in training and hope to get at least one or two more this year. • Nurses's training and child welfare are the ideals the 40 et 8 supports all over the nation. HEAVY FINE One of the stiffest fines for violation of the Illinois Livestock Laws handed out in 1963 recently was levied against B. A. Rucker of Marshall, Va. Rucker was found guilty of importation of cattle without a state health certificate or permit. He was fined a total of $719.30. MILK PRODUCTION , Milk production during February is estimated at 322 Mllion pounds, 5 per cent above the level of a year earlier, according to a report from the Illinois Crop Reporting Service. Favorable weather and the extra dry days in February this year contributed to the increase. The 1958-62 February average was 335 million pounds. Milk cows on Illinois farms in February numbered 488,000 compared with 490,000 in January and 513,000 a year ago. Milk production per cow was 660 pounds in February, 10 per cent above the 600 pounds recorded a year earlier, and 17 per cent higher than the 1958- 62 average for the month. On a daily basis, February producton per cow averaged six per cent higher than a year ago.
