Hiller, Jr., of St, John avenue, McHenry, recently completed an eight-week communications center specialist course at the Army South- JOSEPH HOLLER eastern Signal school, Fort Gordon, Ga. He was trained in the use of teletype sets, in tape relay operations and in manual switching procedures. The young man, a 1958 graduate of McHenry high school, entered the Army in August of 1963 and completed basic training at Fort Knox, Ky. He is now stationed in Korea. Thursday. < - , » | Rudi J. The home which appeared in last week's issue was that of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gans on Riverside Drive. Reining of 1907 North Rogers ave., McHenry is serving aboard the destroyer tender USS Everglades, operating with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediteranean. Everglades arrived in Naples, Italy, Feb. 22 to relieve the destroyer tender USS Tidewater and assume the duties of the Sixth Fleet. Everglades makes repairs and supplies replacement parts to destroyers not requiring major shipyard work. NORMAN MACDONALD Marine Private Norman A. Macdonald, III, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Macdonald, Jr., of 3904 West street., McHenry, completed four weeks of individual combat training recently at the Second Infantry Training regiment, Marine Corps base, Camp Pendleton, Calif. While with the regiment all new Marines are trained in tactical and combat skills needed for battle. Emphasis was placed on the small unit tactics--the four-man fire team and the thirteen- man squad. William G. Humphreys, Jr., fireman, USCG, son of Mr. and Mrs. William G. Humphreys of 1719 North Pleasant avenue, McHenry is serving at the Coast Guard Lifeboat station, Fire Island, N. Y. Coast Guard search and rescue vessels from this station work off the Southern coast of Long Island, N. Y., from Torbay Beach, N. Y., to Water Island N. Y., and in Long Island's Great South Bay. Last year Coast Guard units from Fire Island Lifeboat station participated in 471 search and rescue missions involving 1,087 persons with property valued at more than 1.5 million dollars. Richard P. He has just completed six months of training in basic helicopter school. Jack D. Rassmussen, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter R. Rnsmussen of Sioux lane, McHenry recently completed nine weeks of recruit training at the Naval Training center, Great Lakes. While undergoing training, Rasmussen acted as recruit chief petty officer (RCPO) of his company. Acting as RCPO is one of the most important positions a recruit may hold during training. He is solely responsible for the conduct of the eighty men in his company in the absence of the company commander, and he must make sure that every man is accounted for at all times, in addition to making sure the company is on time for classes and meals. He also commands the movements of the company during drill periods, as well as when marching to and from classes. Upon completion of fourteenday s leave, Rasmussen will report to the storekeeper school at Newport, R. I. He is a graduate of McHenry Community high school. Robert J. Wittiger, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Wittinger of 7818 Highview drive, Wonder Lake, has begun basic training at the Naval Training center, Great Lakes. The nine-week training includes naval orientation, history and organization, seamanship, ordnance and gunnery, military drill, first aid and survival. Some people are lazy, and others are simply tired. URGE BIG VOTE McHenry County Democrats are rallying to turn out a big vote in the April 14 primary election, William Giblin, McHenry county Democratic Central Committee chairman, has reported. * Giblin said precinct committeemen are contacting voters in their area, urging them to go to the polls Tuesday.
