May, of Richmond, at the last meeting of the board of directors of the Mental Health Center for McHenry County, reported that eforts were being made to have the various governmental units in McHenry county contribute to the cost of treatment of psychiatric patients by the Mental Health center. May is the chairman of the fund raising committee for the center. May pointed out that recently passed state legislation allows governmental units, such as counties, cities and villages to contract with private t>r public clinics for the treatment of psychiatric patients. Under the Illinois Public Assistance code, governmental units have for a long time been paying? doctors and hospitals for medical care given to people who needed but could not afford the services. Many of the patients that come to the Mental Health center cannot afford, and therefor do not pay for the psychiatric treatment they receive, May c o n t i n u e d . The c o u n t y board of supervisors and other governmental units have been contracted in reference to payment for psychietfic services for people that live in their jurisdiction.
