Premature Baby Joins Family The tiny son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Smak of Worthmoor Estates was able to join the rest of his family on Monday, of this week. John William was born prematurely on Feb. 29, Leap Year Day, at Lutheran General hospital, in Park Ridge, and weighed only 3 lbs % oz. Now weighing 5 lbs. % oz. the young man was able to leave the hospital and was welcomed home by his brother, Teddy, 4%, and a sister, Sandy, 3%. Arrange For Annual Carnival The next regular meeting of the Johnsburg Community club will be held Monday, May 4, at 8:30 p.m. Duetto the fact that pre-arrangements for the annual carnival will be discussed, all members are asked to attend. Open House For Fred Huemanns Open house in observance of the twenty-fifth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Huemann will be held May 2 and 7:30 o'clock at the Johnsburg Community club hall. Advertise - It Pays! The Conrad Hilton hotel in Chicago set the scene for the Illinois Congress of P.T.A annual convention on April 23, 24 and 25, at which several women and men were delegates. Representing the McHenry County council as delegates was Mrs. John L. Boehm, McHenry, who is the incoming president of that group. Attending the legislative session on Friday were Mrs. Pearl Cooper and Mrs. Winifred Dimon of McHenry High School P.T.A. A very interesting and surprising sidelight of the convention was the appearance of President and Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson, who were in the city for an appearance at McCormack Place. The delegates to the convention were delighted at the sight of these most honored guests, and were most relieved when they finally left on Friday morning with no mishaps. Mrs. Boehm, as Council president for the upcoming P.T.A. year, was given several certificates by the district director, which she is to pass on to the P.T.A. local unit involved, since no delegate was present to accept the award. The schools receiving these special recognition awards were Johnsburg Public School P.T.A., Greenwood School P.T.A., Spring Grove P.T.A., Fox River Grove P.T.A., Hebron P.T.A., and fi'fSrton's Bridge P.T.A. McHenry Community P.T.A. has again received special recognition for iheir sales of subscriptions to the P.T.A. magazine and are again members of the "25 or More Club'. These awards will l>e presented to the local units at the installation and work shop meeting of the county council, which is being held at the Oak Knoll school in Cary. Mrs. Regina Sax ton. formerly on the staff of the Youth Development commission, addressed the annual meeting of the Woodstock-McHenry League of Women Voters at PJeasant Valley Farm Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Saxton, whose background in social and welfare work is extensive, spoke to the group on the efefcts of segregation on the cost of the welfare program. Her talk was followed by numerous questions from the floor. Mrs. Saxton's speech was the highpoint of a luncheon and business meeting attended by over seventy league members and their guests. Mrs. Roger Emerson presented the slate of officers and directors for 1964-65. Elected unanimously were Mrs. Robert Thurow. president; Mrs. Daniel Weisz, first vice-president; Mrs. Maurice Clark, secretary; and Mrs. Leonard Brody, Mrs. Henry Biren, Mrs. H. J. Gitlin and Mrs. James Mason, all directors. Mrs! Frank Grady, program chairman, presented the item recommended by the board for local study this year. It is "an evaluation of the existing library facilities in Woodstock and McHenry" and was adopted unanimously by the membership. Mrs. Charles Kaufman, retiring president, spoke briefly before adjourning the meeting. After announcing that the May issue of "Woman's Day" features a lengthy article on the history and goals of the League of Women Voters, she thanked the group for their effort and cooperation on all phases of the league program during her term of office. A suite of dances with Alice in Wonderland as the theme will be presented by Western Illinois university dancers at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts building, May 1. The participants in the recital will be a combination of Orchesis club members and the women's physical education dance production class. Four or five numbers will be from Alice in Wonderland, such as "The March of the Cards" and "The Mad Hatter." There will be five parts on emotions, along with two dances on city life, one as "cast your fate," a sheet dance, a sacrifice dance, and more. Pearl street, was one of ninety-one New Mexico Highlands university students to earn a place on the academic dean's honor list for the winter quarter. Mrs. VanderMeer. a graduate student at Highlands, has a major in physchology and a minor in sociology. She received her R. X. from the Michael Reese hospital school of nursing in Chicago. Mrs. Arnold (May) Chesak will retire at the close of this school term after forty-one years of teaching in McHenry County Schools. In appreciation, she will be honored at an "open house" at the Greenwood school, Sunday, May 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. All present and former students, other teachers, relatives and friends are invited to attend. Mrs. Chesak began her teaching career at the Oak Glen school at Fox River Grove. She recalls her daily trips for sixteen years, sometimes through muddy and snow bound roads. For nine years Mrs. Chesak was principal and taught at Huntley grade school. During the war with a shortage of bus drivers, she filled in that capacity for two years. The last twelve years, she has spent teaching at District 10, Greenwood school, six of these years as principal. Mrs. Donald 'Abraham, Valley Hill, Woodstock, and Mrs. Howard Wesson, Greenwood road, Ringwood, are in charge of the affair. The speakers will be State Treasurer William J. Scott and State Rep. A. B. McConnell of Woodstock. Mr. Scott, a native of Evanston, rose to prominence in state politics in 1962, when he won the Republican nomination for state treasurer. In November, he won his bid, for office against a strong Democrat opponent. Early this year, Mr. Scott entered the race for nomination for Governor, basing his campaign on his outstanding record for economy as state Treasurer. Upon his defeat . by Charles Percy, Mr. Scott pledged to work for the entire Republican slate in the forthcoming November general election. A. B. McConnell; state Representative from the 32nd district, covering the counties of Boone, DeKalb. McHenry and Ogle, is a descendant of a pioneer Illinois family. His family has produced public servants for the Republican party in every one of the five generations of their residence in northern Illinois. Mr. McConnell is in his sixth term in the Legislature, is chairman of the Agriculture committee, and serves on the Appropriations, Public Utilities, Conservation and Economic committees. He has served fourteen years on the McHenry county board of supervisors, and eighteen years as precinct committeeman. He is past director of his Chamber of Commerce, and past director of the Farm Bureau. Mr. McConnell is a former P.T.A. President ,has been active in Cub Scouts, and was a 4-H leader. Barbara Jackson Tade, registrar for the eighth annual County Art Fair, has mailed over 150 entry forms to artists of McHenry county. The Art Fair which will be held this year on June 19, 20 and 21 at the McHenry Junior high school, is open to all residents of McHenry county. Any artist who has not received an entry form may contact Mrs. Tade at Crystal Lake 459-3774. The deadline for registration is June 1. Entries must be original, properly framed and ready to hang. The show promises to be beautifully hung this year because the committee has an unusually well qualified hanging crew. Jerry Olson of McHenry, who is an architect, heads the crew.
