Thursday," May 7. 1904 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Pistakee Highlands MEN ORGANIZE WORK PARTIES AT BASEBALL FIELD liny SleliiM'h - HY7-S414 A recreation committee met at the church on Thursday evening, April 23 to plan for a baseball diamond. Since Pi- Stakee Highlands does not have recreational facilities, men from the community were invited to give guidance to the program. Those from the community present were: Ted Cramlet, baseball coach at New Trier high school, James Long, Ray Thelen and Henry Zenner. Those from Mount Hope church were: William Mischoff, Leif Eide. Archie Fletcher, Don Krispin and Phil Wieck. Rev. C. J. Doenecke, pastor of the church presided at the meeting. In the architects plan, the baseball diamond is located East of the parish house and , toward the rear of the 9V2 acre church property. Ray Thelen has agreed to scoop off the diamond on Saturday afternoon, May 2, Don Krispin is giyen the responsibility of getting a dozen men to assist in grading. Bill Bischoff is to supervize the erection of a backstop. This will be a temporary affair unlil sufficient funds can be raised for a standard permanent backstop. No public solicitation of money will be made, but interested organizations or individuals can contribute to the Mount Hope Methodist church recreation fund. Although sponsored by the church, this is a community affair. It is not only a mattor of erecting a playing field, but it must be kept in good shape. The Boy Scout Troop now meeting at the church have agreed to assist. Parents and friends of our youths are welcome to volunteer their services. This can be the beginning" of a united effort for supplying a real need in Pistakee Highlands. Rev. C. J. Doenecke said that when he asked the men to serve on this recreation committee, not one of them refused. The next meeting of the PRDFE^ionn DIRECTORS' EARL R. Mother's Day Greetings To All I want to wish all the mothers in the Highlands a very happy Mother's Day, May 10. I want to wish my own beloved mother Helena Barry a wonderful day and to tell her how happy and proud I am that God gave her to me as my mother, and to my second mom Lil Orlowski a very i^ice day with her family <oo^ Birthdays and Anniversaries They are very few this week but we wish Terry Pfingsten and Carl Haefliger a most happy birthday, both Terry and Carl will be celebrating their birthdays, May 8, First Communicants The following children from the Highlands made their First Holy Communion at St. John's church at the 8:30 Mass, May 3. Wayne Sima, William Barron, Anne Sherman, Barbara Kreider, Beverley Kreider, George Hanisch, George Hansen, Robert Jenkins, Patty Lewandowski, Jamie Malek, Jimmy O'Malley, Christine Thelen and Kirk VanZevern. All the children .looked so beautiful as they walked to the Altar to receive Christ for the first time. They all looked like God's little angels. There were many celebrations in the homes for this important day in their lives. Deer In Our Backyards April 23, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Burmeister were thrilled to see two deer in their backyard where they both were working. The Burmeisters live at ( 4707 N. Howard, and they watched the doe and buck in fascination until a dog's barking frightened them and they ran off across Wilmot Road and the buck was hit and killed by a car. News of Your Friends And Neighbors The following children of St. John's were on the honor roll with all A's, Diana Jenkins, Rosemarie Thelen, Cynthia Peloquin, Mike O'Malley, Laura Farwell and Alice Wilson. Charlie and Rose Schifferdecker and sons, Tony and Pat, spent April 26 in Elmhurst at the home of Charlie's brother, Fabian, and Vera to see their new niece, Charlie and Rose are looking forward to being Godparents for the new baby. Seems like everyone on the west side of Pistakee Highlands wants this area to be clean and tidy this Summer. Many couples have banded together and burned the empty lots and cleaned them up which will make a huge improvement for all of us. It will be nice to see grass instead of the usual high weeds that adorn the empty lots. We are so sorry to be losing two wonderful folks. Ray and LaVerne Madock have sold their home at 5701 Acorn and left May 4, for Buffalo, New York. Ray was transferred there and they are so sad about leaving the Highlands. They have made so many friends who will miss them very much. We surely wish them both the very best of everything in their new home and we hope they will keep in touch with us all and we know they will be keeping up with us via the Plaindealer.
