McHenry High's track team made a good showing the past week, first by winning handily over Cary-Grove, 84-34. Coach Don Seaton's boys really dominated in the various events. In a match with Woodstock and Crystal Lake, the Woodstock boys had 67 points, McHenry 59, and Crystal Lake fell by the wayside. In the pole vault event, Fellows of McHenry, set a new record 12' 7x/2". Kusch took the shot put event for McHenry with another new record -- 50' 6V2". McHenry's Frosh - Soph gave evidence of good days ahead, winning with 69 points. Woodstock had 43 and Crystal Lake 36. Track is a wonderful sport and McHS seems to have it rolling along in great style. Sports participants in basketball, baseball, track and golf will be honored. Cheerleaders an;! coaches also will be feted and parents of the athletes and friends of Marian are cordially invited to hear Osborn and join in the saiute to the athletes. In a close match with Palatine the McHenry team lost by 171-174. All matches are scored on the four lowest scores out of five in a nine hole medal play. Individual scores for this match were: Bill Funk won 40-44, Chris Newkirk lost 46-41, Craig Adams won 42-50, Jim Hans lost 46-44 and Richard Piatt lost 47-42. Against Libertyville, McHenry won by 2 strokes, 166-168. Scores for this match are as follows: Bill Funk won 40-41; Craig Adams lost 46-42; Chris Newkirk won 42-43; "Buzz" Frett won 40-43; and Jim Hans won 43-44. Friday. Elgin came to McHenry and went down 167-179. The McHenry team again shot consistent golf in this match. Scores for this match were: Bill Funk tied 40-40, Craig Adams won 43-46; Chris Newkirk won 45-50; "Buzz" Frett won 42-43; and Jim Hans won 42-50. The sophomores beat Libertyville 190-192, lost to Palatine 2*00-194. and tied Elgin 186-186. Presently, the Sophomores have won 3, lost 2 and tied 1. This week the team will play against Crystal Lake at Crystal Lake Country Club. Dundee will come to the McHenry Country Club and Friday the varsity will travel to Bonnie Brook in Waukegan for a qualification round in the Illinois High School District golf meet. Judging from the turnout, the girls must have been itching for fair weather to begin the spring golfing season. Each year shows an encouraging and rapidly growing interest in the sport, as witness the increase in the number of girls. Looking over the list of new names, this year will be no exception. Today's event was LOW PUTTS. From the scores turned in it appeared the gals must have been very cool and steady on the greens. The best 9 hole scores were Class A Dorothy Beckenbaugh and Myrt Johnson, 13 putts Class B Lil Stilling, Petie Hanly and Ethel Conway, 17 "putts Class C--D. Baker. 15 putts. Next week the PARTNERS TEAM PLAY TOURNAMENT will commence. This will continue for three consecutive weeks -- May 12th, 19th and the finals on the 26th. It shows that everyone's heart is in it, that everyone! is trying to make the Pony League a success. Our heartiest appreciation goes to Mayor Doherty and the City Council of McHenry. May 16th is going to be the boys' turn to earn a little extra for their league and help with the expense. So let us all try and donate to the boys when they approach us.
