Let us have an excellent showing from the village. wishes to the young newly wedded couple ior .a long and healthy marriage. Hospitalized In McHenry What he thought was a routine medical check.up, resulted in Theodor Olsen being confined to McHenry hospital for about one week. He entered on Saturday morning and we certainly hope he will be home this weekend! His spirits are excellent and he has promised to avail himself of the badly needed rest for his overworked heart! His wife Sally was very much concerned. Blonde and blue eyed Roger Thacker was also confined to McHenry hospital for the surgical removal of his tonsils last week. One more operation for the little lad to talk about! His recovery was remarkable and he has returned to his studies. His mom, Barbara, was very pleased with his progress. Signal Honor for Harry Lock At a meeting held last Sunday in Rockford, Harry Lock was elected junior vice-commander of the 9th District of Illinbis of the Veterans of World War I of U.S.A. There were about fifty in attendance and this is the first recognition for the McHenry Barracks. Harry is a fine man and will have a great deal to offer in the way of leadership. This reporter is very happy, for the phone call received Monday morning, telling the story about Harry. The man who reported wanted to be sure Mr. Lock would receive proper recognition for this high honor. Memorial Service Scheduled For 11:30 a.m., May 30 Mci'e will be written in next week's column, but our Memorial Bay serivces will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday May 30. All organizations which have served our community so faithfully in the past have indicated their willingness to serve once more so that we may" benefit. Because of their heavy schedule, we have changed the time to 11:30 in order to accommodate the American Legion auxiliary, and the Viscounts. This will give them more time between the services in McHenry and our own. Boat Back In The News The identity of the person owning the boat called "The Neighbor" has been established as Odon Hubsch. He heeded the notice and went to recover his property which had already been appropriated by someone else; Now Mr. Hubsch asks that the boat be returned to him. The number to call is 385-3154. We're sure that whoever took it did not mean to steal, but simply thought the vessel had been abandoned. Here's hoping for a happy ending. Village Board At the last meeting of the president and the trustees, Monday, May 11, road commissioner Art Stuhlfeier was censored for the miserable conditions of our roads. One irate citizen was on hand especially to voice his complaint. Road repairs were taken care of by Thursday of last week. The sewer referendum schedule for June 13 was discussed and the brochures have been received and will be distributed shortly. Publication of the specimen ballot appears in this issue of the Plaindealer. You must be a REGISTERED voter to cast a ballot in this election. Because of the change in the bus routes--the shelter now located at Gate 4 and <he black top will be moved to the intersection of Eastwood Drive and W. Parkview. Another Shelter For Gate Two At the last meeting of the Ladies of the Lake held Thursday, May 14, the women approved of the motion to obtain another shelter for the school children and is to be located at Gate two. Elma Nelson and Carrie Kurth will handle the details regarding bids. During the social portion, Petie Schmidt, Marge Stacknick, Harriet McNamara, Sally Olsen, Edith Brendle, Elizabeth Reiter, Marie Hojnacki, Emma Pyritz, Gertrude Murphy and Luara Slater won valuable prizes. family!) and senior girls Eileen Homo of West Shore Beach; Elayne Godina of Lakewood subd.; and dai^hter, Chrys Levesque. The "pots to pass" were succulent beyond words and Adele's comments on each of her proteges was without peer! Wonderful evening. Citizen Serves His Community Harry Berry and son, Arnold, who was home from college for a weekend recently contributed a valuable service to their community. A plot of land located directly across from the beach which has been an eyesore for many years,"'has been» cleared. The property was filled, with debris and underbrush, giving it the appearance of a jungle and certainly detracted from the lovely appearance . of the beach. At the risk of scratched arms and sore muscles, Harry and Arnie worked for many hours to clean it up, contributing immeasurably to the fine appearance of the village. Verbal orchids to both. ^ Enrolled At MacMurray Jake, Chrys, and I left early Friday morning last week to pause in Springfield to visit the state treasurer's office there and to tour the campus of MacMurray College, Jacksonville. After taking a poll of the three of us, it was mutual feeling that Chrys would be very happy at the school. We were impressed with the high standards which are placed on the students and the administration. Chrys was quartered on campus for the night and we had lodging elsewhere. We returned home Saturday afternoon with the word that papa Olsen was in the hospital. Eastwood Manor Teen Club Has Busy Schedule 1-^Verne Saynor -- 385-5429 Teen Club News On Saturday, April 25, the Teen Club and their guests ficance. They started home Saturday and arrived Sunday afternoon with memories stored which they can savor for many years. Confirmand Feted Don Nelson was guest of honor Sunday after being confirmed at Nativity" Lutheran church, Wonder Lake, during the 11 a.m. service. The Rev. Warren Thummel taught the youngsters for two years. Seated around the festive board were grandparents, Elsie and Clayt Nelson; Mayda and Gene Shigley; the Dave. Hansens and their three youngsters; all six members of the Levesque tribe, and Ed Koch. Mother Elma prepared an elaborate dinner, gracefully and tastefully served. Daddy Earl dispensed liquid refreshments like "it was going out of style"! Dave Hansen and I exchanged pleasantries (like worms in the thirst quenchers!) and tried to remain friends. Ha! All in good fun and no one was poisoned! It was a companionable party and thoroughly enjoyed by the senior and junior guests. Students Rewarded For Musical Talent The McHenry High School choral group held its annual banquet last week and Adele Froehlich once more endeared herself to the huge gathering of moms, pops, and kids who attended. She certainly does a fabulous ' job with these youngsters and so many have been inspired to continue their musical careers! Among the local guys 'n' gals who were recognized were Jim Morris, the son of Monica Morris; sophomore Ron Parks of West Shore Beach (he comes from that talented Lance Parks Fabulous Week In The East Vi and Ben Gates returned home Sunday from one of their most enjoyable and certainly most hectic week's vacation. They left by train on Mother's Day and arrive^ in New York on Monday.' They toured the Fair that day and wc-re very impressed with displays. They did visit the Lincoln exhibit but found others more to their liking. They had accommodations at a downtown hotel and indulged in the tour of the nightclubs. The couple had friends in Leonia, N. J. and Ridgewood, N. J. and they stopped in to pay their respects. They knew John Bjork was employed in New York and they found him at his place of business. Warm greetings were exchanged. On the homeward leg, they paused in Philadelphia for a trip through Independence Hall, the Liberty bell, and other points of historical signi- A Slight Switcheroo Were you as surprised as this reporter to read the switch in last week's headlines? 'Twas a bit disconserting to have forthcoming nuptials described under a card party for cemetery benefit! Ringwood must have been a bit joHed also to read that Mi=s Taylor was to wed. Maybe they don't even have one! With the size of the McHenry Plaindealer and the thousands of words needed, it is amazing' that more of these don't occur. It is to the credit of a fine staff that errors are held to the barest minimum. Natal "Daze" 'V Mat. Other details appear on the society page. The only episode which marred the otherwise brilliant planning was a fuse blowing in the church which left the organ silent after the first chord. This was hastily remedied and Sister Andreella and her young choir distinguished themselves. Carolynne, true to tradition, carried something old, new, borrowed, and blue. She was thrilled with the gift fromyher mother-in-law, which conifisted of a prayer book, bridal\ pillow, and blue garter--all made by Mrs. Blaha. Mr. Dominic Bruxer, Sr., of Johnsburg was inordinately proud to usher the guests as his first grandchild married. He has 38! (so far) more to go!
