Page Four THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, May21, 1964 SO I HEAR ... Lee Hiller was all smiles as he came in tell us the Jaycees Jamboree was a huge success last Sunday. About 200 young people participated in the events. Lee wants you young people to know that the results have, not been compiled, but will be turned in to us for next week. Seems we have many people giving their time to promote organized activity for our young people. Joe Stanek is back with the American Legion baseball team and wants you players to turn out for practice next Sunday at 1 o'clock at the A. P. Freund Ath- " letic Field. Joe says a correction is in order on the age limit for players and put it this way, "Anyone who turns 19 after Sept. 1 is eligible." Anyone who says Sunday is y a quiet day doesn't have our schedule. We couldn't take in half the events last Sunday, but did attend the Marian Central sports banquet in the evening. We have never missed, but did feel real good when Art Jackson called to extend an invitation. Art was in charge of the banquet this year. Fred Meyer was the toastmaster and decided to tell a true story on himself before the sports writers present had a chance to get it in print. Fred was charged by a mad bull the other day and had to climb a tree. Our Tarzan doesn't know how he got in that tree, but has some marks on his arms as the result. Jon Meyer's teammates on the varsity basketball squad honored him with their nomination for the Sportsmanship Award. See separate report on the banquet and note the McHenry area boys who were honored. Everybody calls to report the first robin of the spring, but nobody reports the first straw hat on a man so we did our own observing. The first one we saw was worn by A1 Weiss. Then we saw one on Marty Knox. So, on Monday we hauled our old number out of the store room. Of course, the ladies wear straws when the snow is falling so there is no way on naming a first for the gals. Another good friend, B. T. "Brune" Butler passed away last week and Ringwood won't be the same. We first knew "Brune" as a baseball player and manager. He knew sports and was a good sport. The world goes on, but we do miss old friends. "PICKUPS" When you are driving a car, you can get in a lot of trouble by hugging the wrong curves. A stenographer is a girl you pay while she is learning to type and waiting to get married. When you have a kindness shown, Pass it on. 'Twas not given for you alone, Pass it on. Let it travel down the years. Let it wipe another's tears. 'Till in heaven the deed appears. Pass it on. Many a family is dominated by a rich uncle's WILL power. A fine is a tax for doing wrong, and a tax is a fine for doing O.K. Behind every successful man stands a woman who couldn't be more surprised. Sincere sympathy is extended to the family upon the loss of a dear one. Public Phone Booth Installed In Town A few concientious persons in town made it possible for Ringwood to have a new much needed public phone. It is located between the grocery store and the post office. There has been a good many times when it would have been so much help to persons if they were able to go to the corner and phone, but up until now, there was not a public phone in town. Just a few weeks ago, it would have saved so much valuable time if the rescue squad could have been reached by going to the corner, and I'm sure there McHenry Country Club News Roller Rink The people passing by the McHenry Country Club Sunday morning must have thought the club was pretty strict on how the fellows working on the course should dress when..they saw one of the boys driving a tractor and wearing a tuxedo. Actually .it was one of the boys on his way home from the prom who just stopped to get a couple of things done. The third round of the aggregate tournament saw the following teams doing battle: E. Brown and B. Billeter beat R. Roseberry and Mclntee; Overton and Hoelscher beat Consago and Spangel; J. Etten and J. Moss beat J. Thomas and B. Burns; D. Rosing and W. Frett beat Haller and Zwissler. The finals will pit Brown and Billeter against Overton and Hoelscher; R. Rosing and Frett against J. Etten and J. Moss. Low net winners were: 1-10: 1st, Paul Overton; 2nd, Earl Brown; tied for third, Lou Consago, Dick Freund and Art Jackson. 11-14: 1st, Hank Tonyan: 2nd, Jack Rieke; tied for third, Bob Andrews and Dick Weber. 15 and up: 1st, Bob Peisert; 2nd, Joe Frett; tied for third. Fred Rogers and Matt Hoffman. PONY LEAi.n: The tag day hold last Saturday by the McHenry Pony League was most successful and showed interest on the part of the people of the community, according to Gloria Vanek and Agnes Prazak. They offer an apology if any of the boys were troublesome in front of any of the stores, or to any individuals. FRIDAY - SATURDAY Ma\ 22 - 23 - Double Feature "EVIL OF FRANKENSTEIN" And "NIGHTMARE" Door open Fri.-Sat. 6:45 SUNDAY thru THURSDAY May 24 - 28 Jackie (ilcason Steve McQueen "SOLDIER IN THE RAIN" Sunday at 7 & 9 p.m. Weekdays One Showing 8 p.m. McHenry, 111. COMING: 'TOM JONES' And "7 FACES DR. LAO" were many times unknown to anybody. « - I'm sure the public is grateful to these people for seeing that Ringwood has a phone for each and all to use. Correction Of Last Week Beg your pardon people. In last week's paper, I forgot to mention that Kate' and Tony Wieser, Kenny and Barb Brennan and Joanne and Henry Skogstead also were the guests of the Charles Brennans attending the bowling dinner in Twin Lakes, Hope this error is forgiven. Sorry. Sr. Hi. M.Y.F. Report by Linda Low, reporter Rain didn't wash out the active game of croquet played Sunday night by some of the Sr. Hi. M.Y.F.'ers. Badminton was made more exciting by the calm drizzle? Since the rain cooled off and made us damp, completed the job by playing catch with water balloons. Some people met with misfortune when they caught the balloons above their heads. Baseball and a scavenger hunt were also included in the recreation night. Grill cooked hamburgers and hot dogs served as a basis for the delightful picnic that followed. Mr. and Mrs. Baker played host and hostess for the evening. Attend Lunelieon-Style Show Several women from Ringwood attended the delicious salad bar luncheon and style show held last Wednesday at noon in the Zion Lutheran church in McHenry.
