Tfrisgroup has been formed as a^noLfor, profit organization, chartered by the state of Illinois A few weeks ago it was' mistakenly printed in the Plaindealer that w£ were Chartered as a'new, for profit organization ' This was due to no fault of Plkindealer. They were sent -a paper from the office in Springfield stating the fact. This,", was a mistake from the office • in Springfield as anyone whti^<vTshes "to se6 our charter may affirm. The following week an., article was in the ' . . . . Plaindealer stating that we were a new, not for profift organization and ' listed our officers and board members. Naturally, the people who read the first article did not seem to be able to find the second article. It is sincerely hoped that they read this. "Ann Varese and Company has been formed by a group of interested people wishing to provide the finest in theatrical entertainment for the public. Anyone who has had any experience in theatre is well aware that the profits in amateur theatre lie in the satisfied egos of the people involved who haye found an outlet for their tafents, be they theatrical, artistic, musical or otherwise. It is so costly to produce musical comedy that only the foolhardy or ambitious undertake them. We consider ourselves ambitious. "As far as personal profit has been concerned, it might be of interest to the public that my husband and myself were the "angels" for the musicals, "Once Upon 3 Mattress" and "Molly Brown." In other words we put up the money; and contrary to profitable theatre, we did not receive one cent other than being reimbursed. It might be recalled that the theatre group donated $300 to the McHenry library from "Mattress." "Molly Brown" expenses ran into well over $2,- 000, not including rental of a theatre. "My dream is to build the finest semi-professional thea trical group in the area. I do not consider the mjority of my performers to be amateurs. If they have not had professional experience, as many of them have, they are of professional talent, and I treat them as such. We have a wonderful group of people - - we agree heartily that we will produce the best for you, our public. "I am giving my services to the McHenry County Art Fair by directing two theatre-inthe- round productions, "Send Me No Flowers", for the adults and "Tom Sawyer" for the children. I enthusiastically recommend them for your entertainment! Ann Varese and Company are planning another musical comedy for the fall. Watch for us! "Sincerely, "Ann Varesne, President" "Dear Sir: "Just a humble message to the citizens and taxpayers of this county where I happen to have chosen to live some seventeen years ago. In this great right to vote and express our U.S.A. we are blessed with the feelings from time to time. In the past few years there have been various tax raising measures and 95 per cent have gone down to defeat. Surely we are not, the type that want low taxes under any condition. 'Way back when' there were public schools from which some fine leaders emerged that kept this country great. There are some that reply that the peopie want these things. The proof is in the vote. We had readin' and writin' and 'rithmetic and also some frills. But a "little scrutinizing is to be made. These voting sprees are also expensive. "In all of these chaotic countries where we are sacrificing our grown sons and spending our tax money just to keep the peace and not involve us in a world conflict, they have no vote to voice their opinion. So they riot and kill. Let us resolve to strike a happy medium and see just what we really need for our comfort and advancement in the schools and all other facilities instead of creating jobs that increase taxes for people that are constantly striving to pay the butcher the baker and the candlestick maker. And then when a x-equest is made and voted on, Mr. John Q. Public will in the majority vote yes. "Mrs. Nettie Sarley "Lakemoor" CONSEKV.iaCY REFLECTION "Dear Editor: "To al lwho participated in the May 23 referendum regarding the establishment of a River Conservancy District, we extend our thanks. "Those of us who worked for the proposal to create the district are disappointed but not discouraged. We shall continue to support any and all actions designed to preserve the water and land resources of our community. In the years to come the citizens of our area must stay alert to the need to work for community-wide improvements. Problems such as water pollution, educational facilities, road improvements and adequate sanitary disposal do <not confine themselves to artificial boundaries. And if we are to make progress in these areas, we must recognize that it cannot be had at no cost to our pocket books. Each project must stand on its own merit but we must, as interested citizens, make an effort to examine the facts that are avail-' able and then vote according to our convictions. "LeRoy F. Olsen, "Chairman, McHenry Plan Commission" JULY 4 CONTROVERSY "Dear Sirs: "I am in complete accord with Don Kinsala and others in our McHenry area who join in the patriotic voice. What on earth, besides a dollar, could be the reasoning behind the minds who contrived the idea of blasting fireworks on July Fifth? There must be some good heads in our area who are asieep! This is the most important date in our United States history. "If it's the Almighty Dollar that progressed this deteriorated decision, let me be the first to be emphatic in saying that I've always spent my share throughout the carnival days. Why hold the "works" for the fiftfh? If it's not the dollar, what's the reason? I doubt if the reason, whatever, can surpass my reason ' for wanting my "firecrackers" when I have a right to expect them! „ "I sure don't enjoy watching someone, or groups of anyone, making a sham of My American Heritage. -- Anyone in the .ilea, with any say-so had better get his back up--and soon! Have we lost the spirit of Seventy-Six- - The drum, the fife, the musket, - for kicks? Are we gonna stand here -- staunch and stiff, And watch July Fourth become July Fifth?
