The group will leave the church at 1 pjn. on that day. Family Night at <•> Luthemn Church Last Sunday at 6 p.m. the members of Nativity Lutheran church were treated to a fine program. This was the first program of this type but it met with such success the committee plans to make it a regular activity. Mrs. Margaret Rose was coordinator of the entertainment. Her theme for the evening was "Not Keeping Up With the Joneses but Keeping Up with Jesus". A skit by the Sunday School class was presented entitled "How Far Ahead Have You Planned?" The new Children's Choir sang "Just As L Am".' Those in the skit were Dale Jirousek, Barbara Cobar, DeeDee Levesque, Lynn Moore, Bruce Tomaro, James Parson, Tina Topp, Morton Froden and Alah Mathieson. Later there was a panel discussion entitled "What's New for Families." Serving on this panel were Mr. and Mrs. Rudi Jirousek, Mrs. Kenneth Helm, Mrs. Calvin Kolar and Mrs. Marget Rose. Refreshments were served. The committee asked that a special note be made that Mrs. Jirousek had made the beautiful curtains which were used in the stage setting. All those attending were very inspired with the evening and are looking forward to more evenings like this one. Burnick Home Burglarized The sneak-thieves are on the loose again. The home of Mr? Two" dozen hand puppets were assembled by these workers: Betty Fiala, Rose Murphy, Mrs. Ted Eltoft, Neva Fuhrer, Anne Weretka, Mrs. Walter Faust, Josephine Wendt and Dorothy Halbauer. Mrs. Eltoft won the hostess prize. The next meeting will be In September. Girl Narrowly Escapes Drowning Kathy Von Feldt of 10854 S. Major, Chicago Ridge, narrowly escaped drowning at Hickory Beach on Wonder Lake on May 17--Sunday afternoon-- when she was thrown into the water by her companions-- all in the spirit of fan. While she was in the water. Kathy was seized with convulsions to which she is subject. She was hastily pulled from the water and taken to the hospital and later sent home to be treated by the family physician. No charges were made against the teenagers involved. Mort Woodward Home and Improving We are happy to report that Mort Woodward is much improved after his itay in Sherman hospital where he underwent, surgery a month ago. What Manner of Men be These I'm inclined to think they be little men and maybe little girls too who haven't been taught to have any regard for the property of others. On three different occasions this past, week I have heard of flowers being ripped out by the roots in people's yards. All in the same area. The homes of Ruth Redman, Mr. Gonzales and Mr. Lefebvre were all victims of this vandalism. These people spend a great deal of money on plants and flowers to beautify their homes and also spend many hours of work caring for them. Only to have some characters go thru their yards like a plague and rip out every flower in the place. What satisfaction is to be gained from wantonly destroying beauty? Yet if one were to go to the parents of these children, and I do be- See Braves and St. Louis Play Ball! Dorothea and Jack Moore, Cubs and Braves fans respectively, and their two miniature fans, David and Greg, went on a spree last week and went up to Milwaukee to see the Braves and St. Louis play. Dorothea says one of the highlights of the game, aside from the fact that baseball games give her a perfect opportunity to release her inhibitions by screaming and yelling to her hearts, content, was the Indian tepee located in the centerfield bleachers. Each time the Braves have a home run smoke comes out of the tepee and an Indian comes out and does a war dance. All in all they had a wonder- Former Residents Visit Lake Over Weekend - Mr. and Mrs. Auston Hood and son, Chester, formerly of Deep Spring Woods and now of Pulaski, Tenn., visited friends here at the Lake last* weekend. This is the first vacation Mr. Hood has had since the family moved south several years ago. They say that while they like living in Tennessee, it was like coming home to see all of the old familiar signs and places around Wonder Lake again. They drove in Thursday afternoon and stayed at a motel in Woodstock and left again last Tuesday. It was nice to see you Mrs. Hood. Next time I'll try to recognize you even with your sun glasses on. Next week will be a business meeting. Wonder Lake Garden Club News On Thursday evening eleven ladies of the W. L. Garden Club were present at the regular monthly meeting held at the home of Mrs. Elsie S. Ottoson 7115 Chippewa Drive. Mrs. Ann Nagel, a former member, was a dinner guest of the Ottosons and stayed for the club meeting. All the members were glad to see Mrs. Nagle again. Those attending were Marian Carder, Betty Fiala, Bertha Gillette, Elsie Hoppe, Sybil Johnson, Dorothy McEachren, Helen Muchow, Maybelle Nelson, Pearl Sanders, Genevieve Wielock and the hostess, Elsie Ottoson. Mrs. Pearl Sanders is a new member and was most heartily welcomed to the club. The ladies are planning a trip by bus to Springfield on June 16. They have been promised a very interesting tour of our Capitol City. The next meeting will be June 11 at the home of Helen Muchow at 7218 Chippewa Drive. Several items of business were taken care of during the refreshment time. For the evening's program--Mrs. Marian Carder gave a reading on tomatoes, which was of great interest to the members. Meeting adjourned around 10:30 p.m. Kiwanis Meeting--May 18 Lake Region Y.M.C.A. was presented to Kiwanis group by Lee Nichols, Col. Ernest J. Teberg and Past Gov. Orv Church of the Crystal Lake Kiwanis Club. On other matters, Lennie Freund gave a complete report on the merit award dinner. Last week ten men were scheduled for general clean-up. Sam Zeimet and quite a few of the boys finished some new benches on Saturday and on Sunday they were painted by ahother group. With the^new sand and new benches it is beginning to look pretty good down at the beach. The boys hfeve requested that all parents tell their children to refrain from carving names and initials on things and to try tq keep it in order. A drinking fountain and slide into the water will be worked on next. Visitors for Winters Louise's aunt, Miss Anna Cotney, from Philadelphia is in the Shores for an extended visit and next week is going to baby-sit with the children while Sam and Louise take in the Fair in New York.
