Bi' Thursday, May 28, 1964 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER ."V..Ca§SI Sunnyslde Estates LAURELI JOST WINS 3 FIRSTS IN TRACK MEET Fran Olsen 885-5740 The fleet feet and boundless energy of Laureli Jost rushed her over the finish line to run off with no less than three first place honors at the Jaycees track meet held under ideal weather conditions at Mc- Cracken Fienld on May 17 beginning at 2 p.m. Her prize areas were the 50 yard dash, a broad jump of 14 feet 5 inches, and in the 4-40 relay. And Miss Fleet Feet didn't even train for this event! Congratulations, Laureli, and may you be invincible at the county track meet in Elgin in July. You may not be jable to hear us all the way to Elgin, but we'll be rootin' for you. Another Farley To The Shepherd's Fold , The' baptism of John Thomas Farley at St. John the Baptist church was performed by the pastor, Father Dording, on May 17 at 2 p.m., and witnessed by John's godmother and aurift, Joan Lyons, and her husband Terry, who was proxy godfather for Ed Farley, John's uncle, who was unable to be present. Helathy and hardy J. T. was undaunted by the important event, save for all the added attention caused by having the seven members of the Lyons family from Chicago staying for the weekend. The families from parents to tots had a grand visit and the children hated to leave this lovely country living to return to their city home. Return they must, but return to Sunnyside they shall. Mareen Mualcale Congratulations to Dorothy Ann Kayler and Cathy Palmer for their participation in the excellent musical production at Marian Central high on the evening of May 16. The audience was captivated by this exceptional group of young voices, the Marcen Singers, who this year performed in their own freshly purchased choral robes, and were accompanied on their own recently installed organ. Milestones in the performance, experience, and development of this new and growing group. Field Day Michael Mikkelsen and Mom Loretta were among the fortytwo children and eleven adults who bussed into Chicago on May 19 for the Johnsburg School eighth grade outing. Big day, field day, hay day, this May day: an excursion boat trip around Lake Michigan began their day with a tour of the locks, shoreline view from the other side of said shore, and an along-side comparison of their craft next to a docked freighter- Mmmm. Sad to report that Ihey were informed the water level in Lake Michigan is the lowest it has been in 100 years. Next off to an amusement park--and we'll leave this commentary to the radio and TV commercials, and your own imagination. Another Outing Melody and Marily Fail, Donny Dettlow and Steve Bro? therton are members of the Johnsburg school first grade clasB who took a tfip to Elgin on May 21 to tour a dairy, the Elgin park, and a newspaper office. Bake Sale Home made goodies of all varieties will be on sale at St. John's School May 31 after all the Masses. The Sodalists need donations of baked goods as well as customers for these, in order to affect success. Be as generous as you can. Monetary gifts will also be accepted. Batter Up Get behind those Little Leaguers who are knocking at your door with wistful eyes, hopeful hearts, well-oiled gloves, and the energy and spirit that leads them to the ball diamond initially. Adult support is the logical compliment. Agreed? Agreed. New Leader The officials of Brownie Troop 150 take great pride in announcing that Delores Gerstein will be the new leader of this troop next year. Road Rumors . . . are flying high and wide. Clear up any confused notion by calling Mel Simmons or Jim Leahy. Here's one clear fact: paving cost for front footage will be $3.71; for side footage (for corner lots) $.76 per foot. OAA Sandy Fry, Patty Voight and Laureli Jost received their awards for the points they accumulated during the year at the Girls Athletic Association tea at McHenry high school on May 21 at 7:15 p.m. The Mothers of GAA members were invited and proudly attended their daughters' big night. Wishing WeH Marie Leahy was so pleased by the cheer brought to her at McHenry hospital via the SEHOA plant she received. Marie is home now and feeling better. Mrs. Haninger is a patient at Oak Park hospital, but hopes to be home by the time this appears in print. She's improving now and we hope will be her bouncy self soon. Zzooom! It's a stereo set--it's TV--no, It's the real live thing, as eyewitnessed by Herb Anderson and son, Mike: the Indianapolis Speedway time trials on May 16. It was very exciting, they report--and the 250,000 other spectators attested the accuracy of their judgment. Spring Is Here --which always brings mail box problems because the little ones seem to get such a case of spring fever they can't find enough neutral or positive things to do. Parents, remind your children of the seriousness of tampering with mail boxes. Surprise Guests appeared at the Mel Simmons home last week: Mel's brother and his wife from North Carolina, whom they weren't expecting for at least another month. So Shirley quickly formulated their plans ami they managed to fit in: horse shoes, gossip, and trips to Kenosha to visit Mel's sister, Cedar Grove, Wis., to visit Mel's eldest brother, and Milwaukee to visit Shirley's mother-- all this in just three little old days. It was "one beautiful visit" relates Shirley .
